Ghost of Tsushima PS5 "killed" my PS5 twice in ~ 30 minutes. Anyone else have issues?

lh032

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
looks like a hardware problem to me.

Like when demon souls crashing PS5 few months ago.

I beat the Iki DLC, most of which was done in my 2nd time playing it since the DLC was released and I played for 5 hours the other and didn't have any issues. Make sure you don't have anything from the PS4 version installed, I forget which game it was but I had the PS4 and PS5 version installed and it crashed my system a couple times, uninstalled the ps4 version and let just the ps5 version sit on the SSD and I was able to finish the game. Might work, good luck bro

No ptoblems at all dude. Id be calling Sony and at least get it documented.
I'd second this, even if any devices is usually reliable, faulty units get produced ,
Also it might be worthwhile to reinstall, if something got curry predict by some freak chance, it could cause a crash

I have a new/unopened PS5 still sitting in the box for this reason alone, not because I want to make a profit from the low stock.
You should sell it ASAP or I would say open the thing and play it!

You're getting more for an xbox series x than a ps5 now at CEX in the UK so stock is becoming more available on ps5 and reaching more of the demand. I feel like the ship has sailed on making a huge profit on these consoles.

It sounds like he's talking about option 7 in PS5 Safe Mode:

Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) – Deletes all user data and removes PS5 system software. This will reset the PS5 system software to its original launch factory firmware state.

Sure, that's worth a shot, but I suspect it's not gonna fix this issue.

Had this with avengers and godfall a few times, not this DLC though yet to try it.

Yeah, not if it's a hardware issue. As a bit of an aside, since you seem to be knowledgeable about this, are corrupt data errors (for apps, games, saves) a sign of a faulty hard drive? I've run into this issue with my PS4 after a recent heat wave - as well as lagging, failure to load the home screen, etc. Hope you don't mind me asking your opinion. I've never run into this before so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! Glad for you guys that this is not a widespread issue. It happened twice yesterday but I've been playing plenty Tsushima since it launched last week, no issues whatsoever.

For the record: I'm playing the "put the PS4 disc in the PS5 and upgraded to a PS5 version Director's Cut" kind of way.

A couple of you asked about where my PS5 is located in case it's a overheat issue: my PS5 is standing freely on a desk, no enclosed space whatsoever. Air flow is optimal.

I'll give it another whirl tonight and see how it goes.

Wouldn't be surprised if it is a BC issue. The OS has a lot of bizzarre shut down issue with the rest mode on my ps5, can't imagine how crazy can goes with the BC enhanced version played via PS4 disc.

Could definitely be.

Thanks. I'll pick up a new hard drive and give that a try, I think.

Have you already tried doing a factory reset of everything? It could just be data corruption without the drive actually being damaged. But if you've already tried that, then I would say the HDD is the issue.

Yeah, I've done that, rebuilt the database, deleted and downloaded the game multiple times, etc. Basically tried every applicable option in Safe Mode, even contacted Sony by phone. I've had to replace the hard drive before but didn't have corrupted data at that time. I was worried it could mean I'd need to replace the entire PS4. But if it's just the hard drive, that's not too expensive and a fairly simple process. Thanks for the advice. Now I'm not worried about wasting money on a new hard drive.

Seems likely that it's just the drive given the error messages you're getting.

I guess if it was a bigger problem with the system, it wouldn't even turn on. Or would power off intermittently. Not that I would know, just guessing. Either way, replacing the hard drive is a lot less expensive than buying a new PS4. It's even cheaper than sending it in to Sony for repairs which was one of the options they gave me over the phone. They would have even replaced it if they couldn't fix it, but it's double the price.

I don't really understand what you're saying (you can't "remove the OS" on a PS5), but what he's describing definitely sounds more like a hardware issue to me.

Yes you can, formatting the internal SSD, you remove everything

Since the thread is bumped, an update:

Happened another 3 times yesterday. The error code is CE-108262-9 and googling that turns out it has been plaguing PS5's basically since the day it launched.

So yeah, "fortunately" more common than I thought.

Yes you can, console will not boot if you not install OS again

Really? Well, then I've learned something new, I didn't think they would let you do that.

Edit: Some quick googling seems to tell me you can't do this, you can only factory reset (which doesn't format anything, it just removes user data).

Edit 2: Oh, in safe mode you can indeed actually reinstall the system software.

What do I mean with "killed my PS5"?

Out of nowhere:

- Screen goes black
- White console lights go out
- Controller light goes out

It's straight up dead in the water as if someone janked the power plug. Pressing the button on the controller brings the console back but it does a slow boot and I get a "there was a system error" message. After sending an error log to Sony it boots back to the main menu and everything is fine.

So yeah this happened once [never happened with any other game before] and I thought sure, things can happen. But then it happened again. And that's making me a bit nervous.

Anyone else encounter this? I'm fairly alarmed, I don't wanna fry my PS5 or something. Both game and console are updated to their latest versions.
I saw that a patch came out today. havent read the notes yet but maybe it has a fix?

Returnal issues didn't 'power off' the console. It was just full of game crashes.

Yeah powering off the console is a whole new level. I must say though I feel there's a few issues with the PS5 that I am not sure are hardware or software level.

Maybe you have the console wedged into a giant entertainment unit and it's not getting very good ventilation?

Have u tried doing some of the suggestion posted here yet? Like Rebuilt Database, Reinstalling game, and in last case do a system reset? JUst do a system reset if nothing else works, cuz it will wipe out everething from ur console.

Make sure you’ve downloaded 2.007. It’s the latest update and it actually makes game look better on both the PS4 and the PS5. On PS5 it’s one of the best lookers to date.

a software bug can definetely cause a console power off. So, it's nothing to worry about, especially because it's happening with that specific game, which is another proof tha it'just a software bug. Annoying, but still software, and then, fixable.

My ps5 going on crazy when I put in rest mode. Not every time but it happens. The screen become green and it turns off completely. Anyone as a clue what's the cause? It asks to me to rebuild the database when I reboot the console.

I would send it back to Sony, my ps4 Pro was doing similar and it turned out to be a bad apu. Got it switched out and it was fine.

Had this with avengers and godfall yeah. Scary because my console would only turn back on after five minutes with the power cable unplugged lol. Haven't played those games since.

I had zero issues despite spending 20+ hours with the expansion. I think some earliest PS5's are flawed, but it only shows in more demanding games. I remember hearing from a buddy of mine complaining about visual glitches in R&C Rift Apart while I didn't experience them myself. Or Miles Morales likes to crash a lot more on some consoles than others.

I have played for ~10-15hours now and the digital version froze my system once. which is also the only time my system has ever froze. Not really worried about it, shit happens. OP's issue sounds worse.

That seems pretty weird but your only option is get in touch with Sony for a replacement.
It is not working like it should... very high changes to be a hardware issue.

You said to me? No way I give back my ps5 until it's out of the stock for such issue. It requires 6 months to have it back by sony from my past experience. Until it works I can tolerate such issue.

Don't listen to these guys saying it is a hardware problem. If this had never happened to you with other games it pretty much means it's a problem with the software.

The error message after booting literally says "there was a problem with the system software" so I'm not too worried anymore about my PS5 being defective. Googling the error code returns a ton of posts about people having issues, so fortunately it's not an isolated incident.

It's very annoying for sure, but not worth factory-resetting my entire PS5. At least, not at the moment. It's just kinda clunky and not an experience you'd want from a gaming console.

LOL... I had a Pro and One X, my mate had a Pro only, does not like Xbox! Anyway he came round and I was showing him my One X for the first time, I'm trying to convince him it's a beast of a machine at the time, the first game I load up is Rise of the Tomb Raider and it crashed the console on the menu screen. He looks at me and says yeah great console, the game completely fucked me over on trying to convince him! :messenger_tears_of_joy:
And then you stood up, as everyone in the room applauded you with great ferocity. At that moment, you knew you made an impact.

Yeah, that happened.....

6 months, Holy shit bro. Yeah I wouldn't send it off.

I was actually responding to the OP. Hope yours sorts itself out.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
This version of the PS5 is supposed to last for 3 more years and is capable of playing Ghosts I like the report though OP.

This is not a known issue that I have ever heard of, with this game or any other, which indicates there is indeed an issue with his console. I'm not trying to be all doom and gloom here, but there's really no good reason to tell people "don't worry" when they probably would. You should want him to have a properly functioning PS5.
