Norman Reedus: "I think we're doing a second Death Stranding, negotiations are already happening"

So is Hideo Kojima doing a smaller project for Microsoft and a big Death Stranding sequel for Sony? All the Kojima name drops in Sony interviews would suggest as much.

Yup.

Kojima Productions is Planning to Work on Multiple Projects, Including One "Big" Game

"Next up, Kojima stated that Kojima Productions is planning to work on multiple game projects, one of which would be a “big” game. However, Kojima would also like to try doing smaller games, like episodic games and digital-only games. He’s unsure he’ll be able to manage that, but he hopes he’ll be able to develop and release smaller games while he keeps working on a bigger game project."

Look man, at the end of the day nobody cares about Death Stranding. I'm glad for Hideo that he was able to do his vanity project with famous Hollywood actors as that's been his dream for ages. Get it all out of your system, buddy.

But where Metal Gear was an iconic videogame cultural phenomenon still talked about 20+ years later, Death Stranding faded into obscurity basically two weeks after launch. The only reason it didn't fade away sooner is because the final cutscene takes a week to finish.

I love Death Stranding and it was original and really innovative in many ways. I loved the meta-commentary it had on gaming....with each item requiring to be physically brought around with you instead of having a magic pocket like most gaming hero's, the princess beach / peach stuff and the hat with abilities to float in water etc.

The game was picturesque and interesting and the combat was quite MGS-like in many ways, I think that the inconvenience of the consequences of combat turned many casual Kojima fans off though.

This is a true Kojima game, for true fans of his ideas and gameplay. Of course some people were going to be turned off by it but there is a huge number of gamers who are unhappy nomatter what you do....

Maybe if it had more constant shooty shooty bang bang, it might have been more popular, if it had the slow motion headshots with gore and awarded you for kills or something..... but don't we have enough of those games?

People constantly say we don't get enough different, original stuff but then when someone invests and makes something truly risky, the same people are there to shit on that too.... truly frustrating.

If Death Stranding 2 gets greenlit: "wow Jim Ryan has messed up here, the first game wasn't even that good"

If Death Stranding 2 doesn't get greenlit: "wow Jim Ryan has messed up here, a sequel has so much potential"
Searching for lies....

Lies not found!

I loved the 1st game, would love a sequel so hope it becomes true, and hope they keep the traversal of the terrain as the main gameplay focus like it was in the 1st.

i really liked DS, despite some typical Kojima flaws (mainly endless cutscenes of too much exposition) the game has some heart and is very unique. I would be very interested in a sequel as the lore has much room for another story.

I think the problem with the first game (that's hopefully addressed in the sequel), is that it's fundamentally a "What's the best way for me to get from point A to point B?" game.

The player should be looking a myriad of potential routes, and thinking about interesting solves to each one. The first game barely scratched the surface there.

Loved it, but to me it was one and done kind of game

I dont see them changing the formula very much. And if they do, they will have to change the formula so much that it will become a different thing (like the additions to the DC version are already doing)

Do your horror game, Kojima

Still haven't finished the first one...

I don't think it's a bad game necessarily, I just don't have the patience for it right now.

It was similar for me with Horizon Zero Dawn. I got about half way through on PS4 quit. Re purchased on PC and finally finished it...uninstalled instead of playing Frozen WIlds DLC after reading reviews.

I'm just more of a multiplayer guy I think...though TLOU2 I pretty much played straight through without playing anything else. It's probably more good storytelling vs disjointed and obscure or just bad storytelling. Horizon was simply average at it, Death Stranding was just...my brain wasn't prepared to be fucked at the time okay?

I really hope it was just referring to the Director's Cut version, since I really disliked the Fedex simulator, as lovely as the graphics could look. If a second one is done, I hope the gameplay is completely different and incorporates a lot of elements from Metal Gear and has a less nonsensical story...actually, just make a completely different game and cast Norman Reedus there if Kojima must.

Jim Ryan this, Sony that, no matter what decision is made a bunch of idiot baby man-children will cry about it on every goddamn social media platform. More will cry if they do indeed make it so.......
Please do it Kojima, make whatever you damn well please.

Kojima is getting up there in age - dev cycles take years - not too many games left for him to make.
Id rather he did something new.

I would assume negotiations mean Kojima is requesting Sony approve of and fund a sequel as Sony own the rights to Death Stranding, not Kojima.

Perhaps Director's Cut is a data metric to gauge interest in the IP still / new customers (versus just existing customers upgrading).

Loved the first game, but nah I'm good. It should just be a one and done.

I also hate how games now have real celebrities.

Stefanie Joosten also thought she was going to be in a new Kojima game, after MGS V. Look how that turned out.

Another 4-5 years of Kojima's life on a Death Stranding game? I mean... okay. I didn't hate the game but I'd like him to spend his energy elsewhere.

The stadia rumour was already debunked by Google. The smaller projects are games under different studios he’s overseeing.

Would love to see another one. Worst part of DS was the MULEs. Hopefully they either aren’t in the second game or aren’t as annoying and tedious.

The first one ended in a very definitive way, so expanding on Sam's story seems difficult to create a necessary narrative.

It didn't leave me wanting to know what Sam did next.

That said another game in this universe with expanded gameplay options, combat, and perhaps more reason to do side objectives is welcome.

Playing as BB and Norman being older could work.

Make it available for all reasonable platforms day 1 get some real sales numbers.
They did it for Death Stranding, and it's on track to be Kojima's best selling game ever.

If It sold 5M across PS4 and PC, curious how the Director's Cut will do. Wonder if it has another 500k - 1M in the tank?

Huge potential for the sequel, we might be looking at a Zone of the Enders -> Zone of the Enders 2 situation.

The first one had really high highs, but not yet mature enough in its ideas.
