Isn’t it cumbersome to resync the Dualsense everytime you switch between the different consoles?

Not really. I have two Dualsense controllers, so if I get the urge to suddenly swap to PS5 I don't need to resync. And since I mostly play one game at a time, resyncing the Dualsense happens very seldom. But sure, in a perfect world it would be nice for the Dualsense to work like your SN30 controller. Maybe in a future firmware update.

All right, Switch has now officially sold 89 million units as of June 2021. This means if has outsold PS3 and will continue it's climb in sales. With the help of OLED Model and the usual sales spike at holidays, Switch will most likely reach 100 million sold by the end of the year. Probably a bit more than that, so Wii and PS1 will also be left behind it.

If Nintendo managed to keep the momentum with compelling games and Switch revisions that doesn't interfere with the core concept or divide the player base with more powerful hardware, I think Switch will be thr best selling console of all time.

With the sequel to BOTW and Metroid Dread alone, the new Mario Party game coming out right after Metroid Dread? This holiday season there are plenty of reasons to buy a Switch. But I expect BOTW’s sequel to drop sometime around April 2022. Would be surprised to see it release this year

BotW2 will drop with a new DLSS model, they will not waste it’s hardware sales potential. I’m betting this will not be before October next year.

The Switch lineup for the rest of the year is exciting: WarioWare, Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, Advance Wars 1+2, Cruis'N Blast, SMT:V, Diablo II, Super Monkey Ball and more Pokemon. Diablo II and Super Monkey ball are multi-platform but I'll double dip with PS5. There isn't much I'm excited about on other platforms beyond FH5.

It's why I hope Nintendo sticks with AMD. DLSS could help the next Nintendo hybrid punch well above its' weight.

Got a set of these for my joycons as it means i can extend the battery life but more importantly it makes them feel super comfy in my hands they have a pleasing weight when they have batteries in but also not bad when you don't too. Ideal for the games that totally rely on you using detached joycon mode like tsuri spirits.

Really surprised there's been no chat or thread popping up about yesterdays Indieworld. I would say that was one of Nintendo's stronger showings in recent times. Much more interesting than their E3 Direct for example. Pretty much every game looked good (even if the Switch won't be my choice of console for the games).

Indie World was kind of meh.

Tetris Effect is awesome and I'll double dip but it is a case of "been there, done that". I wasn't the biggest Axiom Verge fan but the sequel looks worse visually. I love Metal Slug but I'm not sure about a tactics game. Spelunky is coming so that is cool.

Completed Skyward Sword last weekend, overall I would say the game was fun but I think it's my least favorite 3D Zelda game.

The combat, motion controls, dungeons and boss fights were all pretty good everything outside of those was kind of painful to sit through.

flying in the sea of clouds was boring as hell, theirs nothing up there and nothing to do except fly to treasure chests you unlock. enemies are non-existent here and for about half the game I was wondering if they even put enemies up there. Eventually I did notice the octoroks shooting at me but that seems to be it? The other flying dudes that would show up occasionally don't seem to do anything. This has to be the worst central hub area in series just because of how empty it is, they could've salvaged it if it was at least nice or relaxing to just look at and fly around in but it's unfortunately just a collection of random rocks in a sky with a very poorly controlled bird.

Fi as well, has to be the worst partner character in the series. Even in this toned down HD release she still pops up quite often, which I don't think I would mind if her dialogue was halfway interesting to read, but it's just the same thing throughout the entire game. When she's not telling the player about something obvious, she's either telling the player about something that JUST happened or she's repeating her dialogue. It blows my mind knowing that she used to be worse. The game also seemed to think that Fi was somehow likable enough to get a emotional farewell, not exactly sure what the devs were expecting people to like about Fi enough to justify this, she gives probability stats and that's it. Their was no character moments or changes in the relationship between her and Link. Link could've been dragging around an actual computer and the send-off would've been just as deserved...

Also... the way they handle Fi making appearances is odd to me. So Fi is essentially a sword spirit. When she comes out of Links sword she's visible to other people... am I the only one that finds that odd? The characters in the game don't react to Fi's sudden appearances and conversations, they look at her they definitely notice her but aren't weirded out by it... a few acted surprised early on but after that it's like she's just a normal thing? Maybe I missed an explanation for that but they really should've gone with the "she's only visible to Link" route because this is pretty weird tbh.

They reuse a lot in the game, from area's to boss fights and even a dungeon at one point. The game feels... cheap to me or rushed I guess. I mean outside of the imprisioned I actually didn't mind that they reused bosses because the combat was good and fun against them but it doesn't stop it from feeling cheap. They legitimately have the player go back to the same 3 areas 3 times, slightly different or expanded but it's still the same places and it got boring to come back to and look at. What happened? Where'd the budget go? Could we not get at least 2 more places to visit on the surface? Also the only town in the game is Skyloft, the surface only has random NPCs that point you to where you need to go, other then that theirs nothing.

I liked the motion controls, it was one of Skyward Sword's biggest draws for me honestly, I love the Idea of actually controlling Links sword and the enemy design that is a result of it. Felt good imo and I experienced no major issues with sword play, it's just unfortunate that they forced motion controls into everything. I obviously don't mind motion controls but it felt like a Starfox Zero scenario where they had a gimmick on the console that they just had to justify by sticking it into every aspect of the game, and that just gives me a bad taste in my mouth. The result was still a good game in the end but I'd be lying if I said it didn't feel forced in some areas.

Ranting aside the game is good, has some of the best dungeons a bosses in the series imo, it's just very repetitive and cheap feeling. It was still fun but felt like it dragged at times.

Shaqazooloo Shaqazooloo very solid write up, agree with a lot of your points. I played SS in 2011 and once I finished it I was kind of relieved tbh. It is the worst Zelda game, but it is still fun. Here are my pros and cons

Pros: Dungeon navigation and puzzles are pretty good, The Imprisoned and the battles that ensue each time, Peatrice's dad, Zelda, Link, Groose, Old Lady, Mogmas, Koloktos, Lanayru Mining Facility, End Credits or Staff Roll cinema and theme were amazing

Cons: Fi, Zelda's dad, fighting a boss that becomes fodder later on, the bosses in general, sky overworld is like Patrick's dream in that one Spongebob episode, Cawlin, Sparrot, overworld in general, only three Gorons in the game, no Zoras, once again - Fi, design of final boss, Skyloft is warm and cozy yet...barely enough to be called 'okay' nothing special really

The ending staff roll is my favorite part of the game beside fighting The Imprisoned. I really enjoyed seeing Zelda at certain parts during her journey. In the second video, there is a powerful moment at 1:50. That and the very end when and where Eiji Aonuma, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Satoru Iwata were credited was another brilliant moment imo

I had this feeling on my newest playthrough, too. Skyward Sword definitely had a more troubled production history than is publicly known. Keep in mind: they wanted to use 1:1 motion controls in the game from the start, but couldn't get them to work satisfyingly, scrapped the idea, and then only when Wii Sports Resort released in 2009 and the team saw that the 1:1 sword fighting worked very well in that game, they changed their mind and actually started working on implementing them again. This was 2 years before the game released, and with how heavy the game is on the motion controls, I think it's a safe bet to say that a lot of the content in the game has been changed around and updated to accommodate for the new gameplay. Which ultimately brings up the question: how much of the 3 years of development prior to this change had to be scrapped, started over and changed considerably? I think a lot.

The game, while I love it, is full with these... little, fine details, that one might not even see when not actively paying attention, but when you notice them, they scream of cut corners. Like... remember the robot that you have to summon once in a while to pick up and carry a large object? Notice how there is never an animation for the robot actually picking things up; it always uses a white blend transition from "Okay, I'll carry that!" to the robot having the object lifted into the air already. This is only one little instance, but a persistent one. Just something that I would think developers and animators would be like "Yeah, we'll concentrate on the quest functioning correctly for now, we'll finetune the animation later" and when they ran out of time, they basically were like "Screw it, just use a transition for all these instances, that'll save us a day of animation".
Or when you are selling insects for example. I think it's really weird and outdated to have the other guy tell you: "Okay, option 1 is insect A, option 2 is insect B, option 3 is insect C, which one do you wanna sell?" and then you get presented the choices basically labeled "Option 1", "Option 2", "Option 3". Like, they saved programming minutes to set it up like this, probably just so it could easier be copy&pasted into the code of the dude you can sell treasures to, you know what I mean? But it's a very weird way to handle multiple choice prompts, like something you would see from clunkily coded games well before the 2000s, not something from the flagship franchise of a world leading game studio in as late as 2011.
Or other weird instances, like there being no real day-to-night-cycle, you only being able to leave Skyloft in designated spots instead of anywhere, the bird flying minigame when you learn that screwattack not being repeatable for highscores, etc. etc.

I don't wanna sound nitpicky, and as I said, I really love the game, but I feel like all these little things show that production must have been very rushed in a few places and it's obvious that they definitely cut corners in certain, albeit not too important aspects, probably to meet deadlines. I think 1-2 additional years of production cycle would have helped them game tremendously, quality-wise, because that's the timeframe needed to tackle all these little things and really tie everything together in a neat and smooth package. But I understand that they didn't want to take that time, because when SS hit the scene in 2011, the Wii was basically dead at that point already and it really hurt the sales of the game. Also, the Wii U would release in 2012, so realistically, they would have had to update the game for an HD release, and we know that's a jump in production quality that they struggled with for a few more years to come.
All things considered, though, it's kind of baffling that with the HD re-release now, they didn't take the time to sort this stuff out now and only concentrated on a handful of shortcomings to take care of. It's like because the original release was so long ago, nobody in development still remembered all the little issues und shortcomings and everybody was just like "Yeah, let's only concentrate on the glaring, obvious problems and getting this to work with the new hardware first and foremost".

I was positively surprised with skyward sword. Bought the physical version to sell once I‘d play through, but the game was fun an engaging. Did only play Orcarina of Time when I was a child and got stuck somewhere. BotW was great but a time killer. The linearity of SW with the great dungeon puzzles was more fun than expected.
One of the best games this year for me.

Looks like Ghirahim made another victim today...

One of my friends got Skyward Sword on the Switch, he never played the original. From the start, he told me he had a lot of issues with the motion controls, like he couldn't reliably deal with skulltulas because half the time his horizontal slash wouldn't make them turn around, that kinda stuff. I told him to at least try the stick controls, see if it's any better...
He sent me a message a couple of days ago, saying that he at least managed to finally reach Ghirahim in the Skyview Temple... and with or without motion control, that was a pain, and SS is officially "the worst game ever" (his words, not mine).

So I know that first Ghirahim fight is a huge pain, but I was still pretty sad to see my friend, who's one of the biggest Zelda fans I've known, react like that...

I remember Ghirahim being difficult on my first try 10 years ago, but now I can easily beat him in under a minute.

I remember Nintendo making the game more difficult as Twilight Princess was deemed too easy. And even without different control scheme, Skyward Sword can still be brutal at times. Like, the first battle in the game tucks you with 5 Bokoblins, who surround you and change their point of defense often. And one hit often takes a whole heart, instead of a quarter or half.

Just beat the game myself BTW. Took me about 35 hours to 100% everything. Still a great game with a big heart and memorable characters. I'd rate it 4/5.

As i picked up the switch version of densha de go just recently i have started back right at the very beginning. Decided to break out the controller i bought for this thing to see how it handles, so far i'm genuinely impressed. The game had a recent patch that updated a few things but also added in official support for it there's now an option in the setting to enable the official controller with a spiffy pic of the thing.

The controller feels really solid & it's pleasingly weighty but not too much the little handle on the right is nothing but a grip so you have leverage to use the one on the left. The one on the left is satisfying to use pushing forward does the brake with a satisfying clunk for each level of brake and then you have to push a little bit harder to the very edge to activate emergency brake. Shifting down back to neutral position the stick will not move any more until you hold in the little silver side button as that unlocks the safety and allows you to accelerate. Now the cool thing is as you go faster and shift down the handle is spring loaded so you can feel a bit more resistance with each click but also when you let go of the handle totally, the spring will automatically move the lever & send it back to neutral. After playing using PS4 controls it's taking a little getting used to but i'm getting the hang of it. Out of the densha controllers i have bought in the past this one feels the most premium of the lot, hell they even lit up the company logo on it lol. There's also a nice little velcro cable tie attached it's the little touches. The only thing missing that would have made it perfect is if they had incorporated the ready light for when the train is ok to depart.

Going to the rest of gaf is torture, just console wars and Nintendo hate.

Went into the Metroid Dread thread and just had to roll my eyes at some of those posts.

Didn't even bother with the pokemon legends thread.

These people are gonna be salty when the sales data comes in.

It really is nerve racking at times. I often find myself with urge to reply at someone who is ckearly not honest, just to reject the idea because 10 others would come at me because of it.

To me, it looks like gaming-related discussion is centered around Sony-fans, since they are a vast majority. And out of all fans, they are probably the most intolerant of them all. I hope this did not come out as console warring.

Wasn’t it always like this. I remember being happy with my N64 but Sony fans always tried to tell me what I was missing out. Then I often had all consoles per generation but for some you must not have a pro Nintendo opinion even when you don’t care for the latest graphics and realism (shooting).

Yeah, I think it was. Sega was never a huge thing around here, so it was quite all right to play Nintendo games. All the way until about 1996 when PS1 hit the stride. Suddenly it was absolutely unforgiveable to even think about playing Nintendo. It was Sony or PC or nothing. Can't really say what exactly happened back then, probably something to do with image or something.

I have no idea what kids these days play around here, but Sony is still the undisputed king when it comes to dedicated gaming hardware.

The more I think about it, the more I’m ready for some revision of the Nintendo Land idea. 1-2 Switch was about the idea playing looking at each other, not at the screen. What about a game that utilizes multiple Switches in different ways (like one offscreen character on a separated switch the others playing on the big screen). That was a thing the Wii U never capitalized on, but was the biggest joy for me.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest has to be the toughest game ever made. My respect for the Kong family has gone up tremendously ever since playing this game
It was quite some time ago but I remember not getting past a minecart circus level.

I should probably get back to that game eventually, but I'll probably play the first Donkey Kong Country before that since I've never played that or the third game.

The Kong games are too difficult for me. I couldn't even beat the tropical breeze one or whatever its name was.

I am still playing Mario Golf, decided to get back to the single player adventure mode. I love golf RPG's and I think this one is slowly becoming my favorite. Hard to beat with its charm and all of the Nintendo characters. Even Toadette is a major NPC.

That's almost where I'm stuck at too. Didn't realize it was vital to pay attention to Kremkoins so now I've decided to backtrack and re-complete the levels this time gathering as many as possible

I'm surprised Dixie Kong isn't in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, she's pretty much the MVP in this game, even though Cranky Kong will tell you otherwise 😄

I have not found any DK game overly difficult. I played through all the SNES games plus 64 and 100% beat them all. With some guides and help from friends, of course.

They are tough, yes but not really that difficult. Haven't played them in a while, maybe I should since they are available in NSO.

You think so? I haven't played it in a long time but I don't remember it being that hard. Challenging for sure but even in the DKC series I found Returns more difficult.
Playing with the Switch Pro controller might play a huge role in this. Because it is nowhere near as suited for these games as the original SNES controller was. I've been getting destroyed in Mario games in the Super Mario All-Stars SNES version on NSO using the Switch Pro controller. It's been a while, but I was never this terrible at Mario games. I think the Dpad on the Switch Pro controller might not be optimized for these SNES games, and that the controller makes starting and stopping the main character(s) a bit more difficult. Not really sure, bc I don't know much about the technical side of gaming

Might have to start looking into a controller that specializes in its Dpad as well as the buttons that mimic the SNES controller because I do play a lot of those SNES games on the Switch

Oh yeah the Pro controller Dpad is terrible. Too stiff and doesn't register directions properly. I heard the most recent versions like the Monster Hunter Rise edition fixed that issue but I couldn't get my hands on one to confirm.

I can handle most DK games fine(except skipping a few barrel/minecar levels on Returns 🙄what a bad idea to make a world out of those )

But DKC2 is a nightmare to play, difficulty feels cheap and no fun, game looks and sounds amazing but i don't get why its not critisized for its difficulty.

Would be nice to have a new Donkey Kong coming even if its not by Retro Studios. Nintendo should have another 3D platformer thats not Mario

The latest revisions of the Pro Controller is less sensitive to false inputs, however it‘s a small dpad and it is not as optimum as a full sized one. Either pick the official SNES Switch controller on NSO or look into 8BitDo‘s SN30 Pro (+ or 2) line.

Enjoying No More Heroes 3 so far. Theirs a surprising amount of setup and looks like theirs actual stakes this time around. Combat is a lot better imo and the soundtrack is also a step up from the prior games. The villain is actually decently done and threatening. I'm disappointed by the lack of jiggle physics like the second game but oh well. Also Jeane talks now and that's pretty cool lol.

The new Metroid trailer really brought up the hype levels. It looks so good! I hope this sells well so Nintendo starts prioritize this franchise. It deserves so much more attention.

I haven’t followed Metroid games before they released, so I’m surprised by the marketing Nintendo is doing for Dread. I thought Nintendo didn’t really care for the series. Nonetheless, I am so pumped for this.

Agreed. Samus slipping into unconsciousness at the end and being jolted back like that was nuts. Planet ZDR looks way too hostile, even for Samus

Can we pre-order physical copies through the eShop?

What time is it?
I really didn't care for the last Metroid so it's hard to be hyped for Dread with Mercury Stream still on board. AM2R was so much better.
