Should I get an XSX or a PS5?

Depends what you want.

If you want backwards compatibility with a tonne of games then get the XSX. GamePass is also good value.

If you want really good and diverse Exclusives I'd say get the PS5. The new Controller is also really cool with the Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.

Where MS excels in Backwards Comp and Value for money they lack good Exclusives. Vice verse for Sony.

When people say that I always ask are three games worth buying a PS5? Of those 3, 1 is a 10 year old remaster you can play on the PS3.
Also stop recommending an old box thats losing support each day, OP never asked about the last gen why recommend it?
Its facts, just apply your own question to XSX and the answer is 0 games.
If the OP already has a PS4 library then his library transfers to the PS5 backwards Compatibility. He can play all Multiplats and PlayStation Exclusives. Heck even "The Medium" which isn't that good of a Game will be on PlayStation.
The only reason to get XSX is if you really really want to play Halo Infinite and Forza (which does look good) coming up.
But still aren't both of those also Cross-Gen games?

Yeah, so I’m on the fence on which one to buy. I like Game Pass Ultimate and the rewards system for buying digital goods and there seems to be some good titles coming soon, but most of my library was on PS4 and there a lot of PS5 exclusive titles I want to play now and in the future.

What would you go with if you were me? I mean, I can get a Digital PS5 for cheaper than an Xbox Series X too so that’s a factor as well.
I would say both, if you can afford it. PS5 wise, depending on how much you like to watch UHD Blu-Ray movies, I would go with either the disc based PS5 or the cheaper digital edition + dedicated UHD Blu-Ray player.

Tbf if you looked back at the polls for people who had both consoles, Xbox was winning the poll here and on ree. It was so bad, known fanboys who we know only have a PlayStation were voting in but still didn't change the results lol.

Buy the PS5 now. You already have a library and I'd be shocked if you don't have a backlog of games. Spencer has said they are trying to get the option to stream Series X games without a console so when that takes off you have both for the price of one.

XSX + Game Pass Ultimate. Day1 first parties + cheap games from Argentina/Brazil save you so much money that you can also get a PS5 + the games that interest you in a few years.

His library is on PS4, thus for backwards compatibility he should get the PS5. Getting an XSX he would LOSE Backwards Compatibility since he is in the Sony Ecosystem. PS5 is virtually 100% Backwards Compatible with PS4.

Think about what system houses IPs that you would care about most.

Then think about what offers more to your liking than the other.

It's different for everyone. I got a PS5 because I frequently play on PC, so as a result an XSX felt pointless.

If you had a PS4 and played most of the library and if you are buying right now, Xbox with GPU is probably best value and will open up a lot of games you prob haven't played like gears, horizon etc. Alternatively you have a few updates, couple of really good exclusives but you're probably waiting till Q1 2022 for the games like h:fw and gt7

But the buy in cost is an extra £100 for the GPU sub for the 3 Yr deal.

If you buy a PS5, then I'd say R&C and Returnal are must buys but even with the DE that's a cost of an extra £140 or buy the more expensive console and cheaper disc editions but it will be still be about 100 notes. It's up to you to decide how much replay value you'll get from the likes of spiderman, God of war, Ghost of Tsushima etc. With their updates/patches.

Also consider the big third parties coming up and which ecosystem your friends are going to be on.

Either's fine, really. I personally have a Ps5 and a gaming laptop for GamePass, which covers me for everything. If you want the Playstation exclusives, go Sony. If you don't you can basically flip a coin.

If you have always played on Sony systems, get xbox for a change. Always best to play different types of games.

Xbox games are normally far more sandbox type in nature giving a nice change of pace from scripted Sony games.

Xbox also seem to be leading on exclusives as of now with no sign of stopping.

Get a PS5 then, you'll regret not doing so in the future. Most of games from Game Pass you can also buy on PS5.
Most games on game pass being available on PS5 makes more sense to me to go Xbox (which is why I did). Rather than having to pick and choose and buy outright I get them all for low cost.

For me I valued playing MS and 3rd party games as best as possible/as cheap as possible which is why I went XSX over XSS. Then I'll get a PS5 slim or something later to play the Sony exclusives for cheap (unless they come out on PC)

I have both and don't regret it.

But right now I'm playing more PS5 and with cross compatibility it doesnt really matter but I'm sure if your friends are more on one or the other the chat features are better if all are playing on one.

I'm going to say get both and then you will be a nicer person on this forum and have no need to console war :)

First half of 2021: PS5
Second half of 2021: XSX
2022 and onwards: PS5+XSX

At this point I think it’s impossible to choose, at the end you won’t be happy without having both consoles, that’s the harsh reality we’re living in now. There will be awesome 1st party games coming to both platforms. You could buy a PC though and play the MS exclusives that way but that’s a whole other ballpark economically.

Whatever you find first.

Of course I would say PS5 but I just love the exclusives and I am a PS fan. Demons Souls, Astrobot, R&C, Returnal, Sackboy, Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Death Loop, Guilty Gear. Even something like Destruction Allstars is decent enough, it's just not on the level of the other stuff obviously.

FInal Fantasy Remaster Intergrade is another excellent exclusive too.

There are also things like PSPlus collection, PSplus monthly games and your back catalog that you might consider also. If you have lots of games that you have yet to play bought on PS or Xbox, you might feel inclined to buy one or the other based on that.

PS5 will cost you more, in terms of games particularly.

So if you just want to pay 500 and a monthly sub, probably go with Xbox and GP.

If you want amazing exclusives and money is no issue, go PS5. It has many more exclusives than you'd actually think at this point, particularly high scoring ones and Horizon, GT7, GOW and Ghostwire Tokyo are around the corner too.

By 2023 the Xbox will potentially have a good number of great games. If you get Game Pass Ultimate for free now like a lot of people do, or for something like $5 a month, then get the Xbox now, you'll buy the PS5 later. GP is good value (for that price) even if many of those games you already own/played on PS4.

Mr Reasonable

Completely Unreasonable
They'll both have mostly the same games, Xbox has more first party studios and will let you play all their games on Gamepass.

VS

The 3rd person adventure games Sony made such a success of last gen.

All signs suggest hardware is mostly in the same ballpark in terms of performance.

I think there are nitpicky things you can get into in terms of value and what kind of tv do you have and is resolution important, but I think mostly people could be happy with either.

This is the worst advice in the thread.

No Flight Sim on One X, ancient loading times and most games stuck at 30fps instead of 60fps. Moving forward no Starfield on One X next year, no Deathloop or Tokyo Ghostwire next year on One X. No Redfall next year either.

Forza Motorsport, Fable, Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, Perfect Dark, Hellblade 2, Everwild - forget about it.

In fact, after Forza, Halo and Psychonauts this year I don’t think there is a single Xbox game coming to the One consoles.

One S|X will be obsolete within 4 months (they already are judging by the 30fps shit tier performance of Forza, Halo and Psychonauts).
Starfield is out in November, high chance it slips into 2023. None of the other games you listed have dates, very unlikely any of those are 2022. Only Deathloop is sure coming in 2022. Tokyo GW will be out in 2022 for PS5 and then have to wait 12 months of exclusivity to end. He would be missing the current games and upcoming games later this year primarily Forza H5 and Halo. If he's so interested in that right now and can get GPU for free or for $5/month, then Xbox is not a bad choice. If not, it isn't like he can't buy it later when there's more stuff he likes. It's not like the opportunity to get an Xbox and its games is lost forever.

Yes, both. Beginning of the year I mainly played PS5. Now I pretty much only play the XSX, and I don’t see much of a reason that will change the end of the year since MS is delivering bangers and Sony released theirs in the first half.

Real answer is to get both, PS5 for the exclusives for that platform and Xbox for Gamepass which will save u a ton of money in the long term esp on third party games.

Then all the Day 1 releases from MS studios on Gamepass too.

Right now unless you really dig hardcore and kinda brutal games there are few exclusive PS5 titles, I love Returnal and Demon’s Souls but unless you are into those I wouldn’t say it’s worth it for Ratchet and Clank.

Unless you really really want to play some of your PS4 games in 60 FPS.

Honestly I'd wait for either. The generation just started and is incredibly underwhelming on both sides. Also the storage capacity on these systems is a joke, there will be revisions in the future.

Give it another few years.

Try and get both. Here is why:

1. Never get upset by hearing good news about the "other" platform. Good news is always good news for you. Happy life.

2. Take the piss at console warring fanboys on both ends alike.

3. Playstation exclusives + GAMEPASS. Winning.

Backwards compatibility and improved older games means it is worth it to get one now. And these systems improvements means you don't need to hold on to the older systems and can sell them without regret.

I have zero storage issues on my XSX. I have the 1TB expansion card and 13TB of regular storage attached.

But you would be paying $100 per Sony game day 1.

Get PS5 slim 4 yrs down the line with ~10 exclusives $20 a pop.

Right now just play xbox exclusives day 1 affordably with gamepass. This seems far better choice.
Yep. I'm a #BrokeCollegeStudent since quitting and starting grad school, so I made the decision to buy a XSX and 3 years+ of GPU as part of that transition. I don't NEED to spend an extra dime on new releases for the foreseeable future. I can also cash in MS Rewards to buy new games not on GP. It's great. If I went PS5 I'd have to shell out $70 a pop or sit around waiting for a deal. I'd rather just play now and get the PS5 later with a revision and cheap black friday deals or whatever.

XSX for now as it will be a newer experience.

But do not skip getting a PS5 shortly after.

If you have mainly liked Playstation games go with ps5 and get a xss later on for the Xbox games.
If your more looking to get more value and wider amount games and not worried about quality then go with xsx and get game pass. Then try to find a ps5 digital later.

$100? What is that? AUD?

Game Pass is great if it has the games you want to play. But for those who want the day one AAA games like AC, CoD, etc. it doesn't help much. Personally, I let the game I want to play guide my decision.

MS rewards is great. Was able to get the Ultimate edition of Battlefield for the price of the standard using points to buy digital Xbox cards.

I never pay $100 per game. I buy physical from major chain stores cheaper or wait a couple weeks and buy it used for like 30%-40% less.

Plus PS5 Exclusives are better imo and GamePass is full of bullshit filler. Its $16 for Gamepass Ultimate a month. Not worth it, I used to have it for a long time and cancelled. Good AAA Non Xbox Exclusives are up for like a couple months or so and then they take them off. They had RDR2 up for like a few months.. You know how long that game is for someone who doesn't play hours and hours everyday? it's a joke!

Take a month off from gamepass and play them.

It doesn't affect your ability to purchase games.

Gamepass has come a long way.

Just this month I played The Ascent and Flight Simulator both day 1. Amazing games both.
