You can play 4K PS1 games on console | MVG

Basically there is new UWP build of DuckStation, which allows for up to 10x the original pixel count, as well as it can alleviate PS1 integer warping and overclock the "virtual" mips CPU, which net you 60FPS (whenever applicable, capped games runs at 30) in any game (which with standard emulation is running like it ran on PS1, such as Chrono Cross at 19FPS)

Pretty cool

Series S is a great little device that can do it all. I have no desire to put emulators on my X but it's nice that there's an option. I'd prob just emulate on PC as it's easier for me

Unless I misunderstood the video, this is only possible with a few games that don't have a capped framerate. Usually, you'll still be capped at 30
I will edit the text, thank you. I don't fully understood if there was even back then cap like we have now (pal/NTSC situation). Thanks and apologies.

Well, time to whip up the hdmi to composite adapter and some strong hands for taking the CRT from the basement.

I have to show screenshots of my setup, with texture and output super sampling the image look extremely clean at "native resolution" and 3d models blend in the 2d pre rendered background whenever applicable.

Maybe when I get to my computer.

Also Duckstation sw?

There are other cases where you can use gameshark codes to remove the FPS Cap or increase it to 60, like in Gran Turismo 2. But yeah in won't be available for every game.

BTW, played a bit of GT2 at 60FPS/4K with all the perspective correction settings enabled the other day on retroarch, not only is the career mode design on that game still great, it looked and played phenomenal, if there was any way to increase the draw distance it'd be perfect. Really hope PD nails that mode in GT7, because rising up from racing regular shitboxes to real circuit racing is still great.

I found this video on the topic, they use scanlines... Which I don't agree with, but there are examples of the technique and configuration under retroarch (I try to use separate emulators for 3D machines so that I get all the options).

Even o. Regular 3D games it completely change the feel of the game, while not breaking the looks like a simple rendering at higher resolution.

I think someone should take footage of crt tvs vs lcd monitors and train a NN to mimic the look of crt on standard displays. A NN filter will likely outdo any simple algorithm trying to mimic crt look.

The issue is that there are many many different actual ”crt" looks (trinitron, monitors, crappy regular crt TVs), input methods (s-video, rf, all the way to HDMI), with different wiring quality and signal stability.

Many of the existing shader based cover many many different combinations to suit your preference and memories (however none are "perfect" and common CRTs were extremely bad, had really bad signal signal to feed them and were often much smaller than current TVs... Thus hiding many of the problems.

This is why when I pick a retro filter I take one that simulate a decent input and sharpen the image a bit. After hiding the pixels. I would love some sort of support for HDR to simulate the light output.

Damn it, no wonder I couldn't find the thread when I made one today and then proceeded to comment on a different duckstation thread, when this one existed haha. (Thanks OP, for bringing my attention here)

Time to ask again, anyone want to be a legend and share some 4k ape escape images or gameplay? :D TIA

The sharpness actually makes it look worse because the blurriness of the original hid the imperfections.
Nah, can't really agree with that on Vagrant Story. Tons of details are visible that were barely so in its original form. The artstyle (like FFXII) lends itself very well to high resolutions imo.

I've been messing around with Duckstation with Batocera and it's seriously impressive. I only use the other emulators if something doesn't run with Duckstation.
