Hades UK boxed charts - gamepass data not counted

Concern

Member
The sales concern is always fun. Everyone is always looking for the best deal or sale or whatever. Just like when Walmart had Spiderman MM @ $20 pre launch for Ps5, everyone that saw it jumped on it and there was no "ohh poor developers aren't making any money".

But since Gamepass isn't a PlayStation thing, its the most evil idea ever.

Bro, come on. 93% on Playstation.

Dont tell me gamepass has no effect on retail.

Coarse it will have an effect but what we dont know is how many are p;aging the game on game pass. Does it exceed the sold version on PlayStation or not. That’s the real question

Most people on XB will buy the Digital version or download it from Game Pass.
Buying the disk version is a pain in the ass since you'll always need to get the disk out when you want to play instead of just pressing home to start it.

GamePass effect. Because why would people pay to play the game when... that's exactly what they already did?

he Gamepass concern from Sony fans is a gift that keeps on giving.

Getting a disc copy of a game you get on Gamepass makes no sense unless you are a big fan of the dev and game.

Then you'll most likely get in in the digital form given the discount. So you're basically double dipping because the dev gets money from both the copy you bought and from MS for putting it on GP.

I have an Xbox Series S and play it on Gamepass. It’s an amazing game. I’ve only made it to the bone hydra boss so far but the game is already in my top 20 of all time. Incredible design and production values.

I think this comparison is pretty wierd atm since its on Gamepass right now.

I hope for Supergiants sake that they got a big bag of money from MS and that people purchase the game when its about to leave Gamepass.

Not sure what's funnier. Sony fans, who had to pay for the game, acting like they're the winners here or the Xbox faithful fooling themselves that digital figures are somehow gonna be much different.

Happy Excuse Me GIF

You're paying for the game even if you are on GP. ( Even if you play it or don't)

This is a lot of text for nothing.

The games been out for a year on PC and the Switch (a very popular platform as you know). The only people buying a physical copy at this point on Xbox or PlayStation are double dippers or first timers that really want a physical version of a <8 GB arcade game.

The game was announced for console at E3 and was mentioned it would be joining game pass on day 1.

Why the fuck would anyone that hasn't played Hades with an Xbox in the UK (that doesn't have a PC or Switch) go out and buy it physically if it was announced day one on game pass for their platform lol.

This is just such a small and fragmented data source to write a whole fucking thesis on.

We arent talking about steam as a whole. But those who buy xbox games on steam. They are part of xbox ecosystem.

No, they are part of the Steam ecosystem but have to have a Microsoft login. I think having to have a username and password isn't as nearly as significant as being made out to be, but at this point, the arguments are repetitive. Agree to disagree.

Like 80% for PlayStation and around 20% or less for XBOX. This is Resident Evil and Hitman we are talking about which are both popular franchises. I think that’s frightening.

Yeah that's pretty bad for xbox if major 3rd party games are selling majority of their copies on PS. They are actually losing mindshare. Microsoft need to start doing more marketing deals for these games.

So, does the gamepass payment exceed the hardcopy sale surrender?
Absolutely it would, because this 93% PS sales is probably a few thousand sales. Digital sales are the majority - something like 80%+ of all game sales for these consoles are digital, and that percentage is growing quickly.

As I say in this thread every week, these UK physical sales chart threads are completely pointless these because they are a rounding error in terms of sales.

I actually heard even digital sales on PlayStation are considerably better. Physical or digital, it still looks really bad to the third parties.
It is not. We are in a pandemic.

People wont spend 60$ like in 2019.

1st month is those who have money. Not to mention, the game had 4m overall on all platforms. xbx1/xseries/ps4/ps5/stadia/pc.

Now tell me, how many physical copies copies in that is UK?

UPDATE 14/05/21: According to Japan-based analyst and investment adviser David Gibson, Resident Evil Village also sold some 150,000 units digitally in Japan, for around 300,000 copies in total.

Same for these statistics, UK boxed sales. It doesn't mean much, only that Xbox sells worse in UK.

Gamepass is creating an environment where people expect games for free in exchange for their subscription. That drives down sales.

Because let's be real: the amount of people that get a game for free as part of their existing subscription and then pay 60$ for it is tiny.
Yup.

We are in the very beginning phase of Xbox games dying at retail and digital purchase. The fanbase is actively being trained to stay on Game Pass besides any heavy hitter that may come out that is not on the subscription. This is not really doom and gloom as it's no doubt Microsoft's inevitable plan to just have games come to Game Pass, anything that comes outside of that is gravy and fairly irrelevant to their plans.

I was speaking in general.

Hades is actually one of those rare instances where the digital copy is cheaper than the physical.
I won't speak for everybody, but if physical is 30% cheaper but Microsoft is offering me 20% off as a GP member, I would sacrifice that additional 10% just for convenience sake

Also more and more people are preferring digital copies. Because it is convenient. Even if it is more expansive or have same price.

Guess what effect additional 20% off for Game Pass members have...

You are right. Even more people flocking to digital.

According to you, playstation is dying in their homeland then, since Nintendo is beating them.

Nope. But I have no idea what that has to do with what I said. Seems like you are getting a little console warr-y here for no reason. ;)
You typed this.

Yeah and? Speak your mind instead of starting a console war.
Dont grab the console war argument. You literally said, Xbox is failing in digital and physical, when we only have % data of physcial in the UK.

I just used your argument against you. Since nintendo is clapping playstation in Japan.

All those sales on Playsation are probably from EBay promotion where you could get it cheaper than digital few days before 13/08 (I got it as well)

I don’t think many even knew there was a physical release. I personally purchased a digital PS5 copy as my free game-pass sub runs out veeeerrry soon.

Nobody is concerned about discounts or prices. It's the people that just can't seem to accept that this reduces game sales so they make up some stupid idea that it actually somehow increases it. Then they argue this stupid point till the cows come home.

Man Games wont sell on Xbox anymore. The Userbase has already the "all you can eat" mentality.

Prove me otherwise

I don't think anyone can convince you otherwise, but it'll be interesting to see if any 3rd party games are announced for Playstation only. My guess is that they will continue to sell on Xbox and it won't be the end of games as we know it.

Googling Xbox Gold subscriber numbers gives me 90Million, and Gamepass gives me 15 Million. If that's anywhere near accurate then gamepass has been adopted by a sixth of Gold subscribers. I know they're not latest figures so take them with a pinch of salt - there's plenty kicking around gamepass topics if you don't have any.
