Star Wars Finally Explains the Emperor's Resurrection

the final product that hit theaters did nothing but create confusion regarding the iconic villain's comeback. It was revealed that Palpatine was actually Rey's grandfather, and he somehow spent decades cloning himself and building an enormous fleet of ships on the remote planet of Exegol, despite dying at the hands of Darth Vader.

The events surrounding Palpatine's left a lot to the imagination, but Lucasfilm Story Group member Emily Shkoukani is helping make sense of it all with a new edition of Star Wars Inside Intel.

Everything about Palpatine's return hinges on something called the Contingency, which was mentioned in books like Star Wars: Lost Stars and Star Wars: Aftermath. Long story short, Palpatine was concerned about his own death and wanted to outlive his mortality. So he created the Contingency, which consisted of a chain reaction of different events that would take place if he were killed.

There are a lot of details about the Contingency that have to do with the fall of the Empire and Operation: Cinder, but they don't address the "how" of Palpatine's survival as much as they deal with the construction of the First Order. For the actual resurrection, it all comes together on the Sith planet of Exegol, where Palpatine spent a lot of time before his death.

Palpatine and his Sith Eternal cult experimented with cloning on Exegol and spent years putting together the Final Order fleet. It was always Palpatine's plan to have this ready-made army waiting for him when he returned after his death. When Vader killed him on the second Death Star, Palpatine's consciousness was transferred to a clone of his own body on Exegol. The body was too weak for him to really use, which lead to him creating strand-casts of himself. These experiments were designed to find the perfect vessel for Palpatine to once again conquer the galaxy.

These clone versions of Palpatine led to Rey, as one of them went on to have a daughter. The experiments also created Snoke, who ran the First Order in Palpatine's stead. When Palpatine found out about Rey, he knew that she would be the most powerful vessel for him to commandeer, so he used his clones and resources to try and draw her to him.

No explanation will make it less stupid or creatively bankrupt.

At this point they could be like "actually, Palpatine had a secret apprentice with the sole mission of gathering the Dragon Balls if anything should happen to him" and it'd be about as "good" an explanation as any.

Yeah, that sounds like heavy damage control by digging desperadly in the story/lore, something they should have do it before creating these movies, in a hope they could explain the failure on their terrible movie.

I mean if it took that long and it wasn't in the film they probably though it wasn't a big deal.

remember the "Force is Female"

Which was a promotion for the Nike Air Force shoes and had nothing to do with Star Wars.

I know that, but I swear she was yelling it at celebration before the Last Jedi I think. I just thought it was an odd way to portray the Force. But if she didn't do it, that is good, She just made 2 really bad SW movies, one being TLJ which is the worst of all time.

The story group needs to be fired for how shit they handled the new trilogy and basically everything that’s not Mando.
I think it's kind of amusing thinking how they were stressed out they were over trying to make a new villain after Rian Johnson killed the main boss in the second movie. They really should have dropped the idea of a trilogy after that movie.

Honestly I was fine with snoke dying anyway. He wasn’t a good villain at all. Part 3 should’ve just been the final confrontation between Rey and Kylo, and it probably would’ve been fine. Not great. But fine. But noooooooo….let’s resurrect a character who’s story was done just because.

If they had went with the Rey and Kylo ending , I'm guessing a good amount of time would have passed and Kylo would have been the new emperor and then we would have the last battle. I didn't want Kylo to be the main bad guy since I really couldn't see a way of them turning him good if they had. I really wanted him to live and become like some hermit like jedi or maybe going around helping folks.

Because they has absolutely no story laid out ahead of any of the movies, and allowed Rian Johnson to kill off the actual villain they did have in the second one.

It's some of the worst movie planning and storytelling in history. Absolutely awful for a franchise that was once so well respected. Now it's a joke to anyone with a brain.
sith lord JAR JAR BINKS can save the franchise

What you morons don't realize is that the planet Exegol has a backup clone planet Exegol 2 with a backup clone fleet and a backup clone of the clone lab where they are making clones of the Palpatine clone and there are so many more Snokes-in-a-jars that you don't even fucking know. Episodes 10-12 are gonna be the shit.

You know the first and last movies of this last trilogy were completely lifeless piles of junk. At least the middle movie the last jedi, was fun as a troll movie, it was an entire wrench or F u put in the middle of that pile of crap trilogy.

Still Rey being all powerful and wonderful, that's how main characters should be, they need no development they should be good at everything and overcome all obstacles because they're just that good.

It's one of the things I hate about modern storytelling especially from the old guard, flaws and defects and villains overcoming the hero. The Hero appears and he should own everyone along the way, like that old Fist of the North Star movie with Kenshiro being an unstoppable monster

The darkside of the force took flesh in the real world.
