Hellblade enhancements vs GOT directors cuts enhancements (Yes, this is post upset at Sony for charging)

These threads are confusing me.
I still do not have a PS5.
If I get Horizon zero Dawn forbidden west on the PS4 pro. Then get a Ps5 later. What happens? Does it automatically become the ps5 version? Do I pay 10 bucks to make it a ps5 version? Do I rebuy the entire game at 70 dollars?
Sony what are you doing?
It's dependent on the game. There is no PS5 patch or definitive edition of Zero Dawn. You just play it through BC.

Ghosts of Tsushima is getting a native ps5 port called directors cut which is the game + the DLC for the Iki island for $70.

If you have the PS4 version you can get the ps5 version without the dlc for +$10. That's just the 4k and the Japanese sync and the dualsense stuff. You can buy the dlc for BC for +$20 without the ps5 enhancements. Or you can bundle it all for +$30.

LoL at sony defense force.. this is a forum, people talk, he doesn't want you to do anything, he wants to talk about the subject, If you're not interested, hide the thread

look at my other post. i already gave my opinion on it. yeah its shitty but what else is there to say? did i not shit on sony enough? ok here it is just to make xbox fanboys happy!

what is wrong with sony? why are they being so greedy and charging for these small upgrades when they should be free. its completely anti consumer and they are getting arrogant with their success again. microsofts approach is way better. sony need to change some of these decisions or it may bite them in the ass.

there isnt much more to discuss beyond that. i doubt sony will change their stance as it just isnt having enough of an effect on them. they're swimming in cash from their gaming division at the moment. maybe if enough people vote with their wallets, it'll change.

I don't care that Sony charged, but I do care that they charged so much. Should've been $40 for the stand alone PS5 version and $20 for the upgrade from PS4.
The Death Stranding upgrade is much more reasonable too.

I'm not buying the GoT upgrade nor the DLC until there's a sale.

Here's the simple truth :
...

Beyond that, it's obvious that publishers want to charge more than $59.99. Sony started doing it last generation with "Digital Deluxe" which were $10 more and offered very little content to justify the upgrade and at the time felt like they were testing to the waters for a price hike. . EA and Ubisoft were probably the biggest offenders with Ultimate Editions ranging from $109.99-149.99. I was looking at Tales of Arise and there are three version of the game ranging from $59.99 to $109.99 with the primary difference being the costumes offered. That doesn't feel like great value to me. I'd almost say that I wish game prices would go up to help curve this practice but all that would really do is have you pay more for the base game and then you'd still end up with deluxe and ultimate editions at an even higher price.

What Hellblade released today for their enhancements

Ray tracing on both Series X & S
  • Up to 4K resolution
  • Up to 120hz
  • Updated materials, particles and details
  • Chapter select

What GOT is offereing for the ps4 > ps5 upgrades

  • Japanese lip-sync
  • Duelsense Support functionality
  • Reduced load times
  • 3D audio
  • Dynamic 4K 60 FPS
Again, charging for the expansion is fine, but this is the 2nd time in two month the competition is offering a more robust technical upgrade for free while us PS5 owners are being charged for what should be free. Having to pay for 4k 60 is the most disappointing part as that is becoming standard now in the industry. I know most ps5 owners won't put pressure on Sony, but this should continued to be pointed out in comparisons every chance they get.

They're entirely separate things.....

It really isn’t confusing.
I own a PS5. I buy the PS5 version. Most PS4 games upgraded for PS5 have been free upgrades. Sony have been very clear about which upcoming upgrades will require a payment. There aren’t many.

Would it be nice if upgrades were free? Yes, it would be a nice gesture. There is development effort involved, so I can understand why Sony changes for it. In the case of GOT, the post launch support was great with a meaningful multi-player mode and they also released a patch to have the PS4 version run better on PS5. A small fee for a native PS5 app doesn't seem like the end of the world. What does annoy me about Sony's approach is the lack of consistency for upgrades across their games. Spider Man being the biggest offender as it was only offered in a bundle with Miles Morales at launch.

It's more confusing than it has to be when the competition does it all for you in the background...heres how to upgrade DOOM...

  • Open the PlayStation Store on your console.
  • Search for “Doom Eternal Campaign - PS5 Upgrade.” (It should pop up as the first entry after you punch in “Doom Ete.”) Download that.
  • Go to your game library.
  • Find Doom Eternal, then click on the three-dot menu. Select “PS5 | Doom Eternal.” If you try to do this before downloading the “Doom Eternal Campaign - PS5 Upgrade” file, you won’t see the option.
On Xbox

Launch doom eternal...By having different tiers Sony makes it tough to just put the disc in and play, you have to do work to get the proper version working and making sure you have the proper upgrades. It's not hard persay but still a bad system.

I’m not sure this is a correct comparison.

The Series S/X doesn’t offer additional DualSense capabilities, so who is to say whether or not it should be free if there’s no comparison to be made there?

If you’re simply referring to resolution/framerate upgrades, there’s been a number of titles updated free of charge.

Im a massive sony fan but im annoyed at the £10 upgrade , ive paid for the new island content dlc, but £10 ontop of that for dual sense and 3d audio and lip sync is a joke , you already get dynamic 4k at 60, if this £10 had been updated textures and refelections etc then i would be happier to pay the £10, it like sony is full of itself now

I loved everything although I agree with the combat part. Game got a little repetitive doing all the side objectives. But its also rare for me to go after all the side objectives, unless I really enjoy the game.

Hence why I definitely wouldn't buy for $70 or even the $30 upgrade. I already did everything and that was enough. Im only interested in the expansion. I've seen people chalk it up to being a "Japanese assassins creed" and its a fair assessment imo.

Put like this, no wonder I gave it up. I gave up ac origins, oddyssey and valhalla halfway through, did the same with GOT.

I need to stop buying open world historical games i guess lol

Glad I waited last year with purchase and now I’ll be basking in full PS5 glory + expansion for only 69.99$ (not really, much more expensive here in Europa). 50h main game + dlc…. yeah, I’ll bite.

Not like 8h scam that is R&C.

I just recently finished the last of us 2 on ps5 after they released the free 60fps patch.

Whilst I was playing I thought to myself that I'd pay for a better patch as just the 60fps isn't enough.

So just fps should be free but I'd be okay if they charged 10 to 20 earth credits for much more in the patch.

I wouldn't compare a corridor walking sim with a huge open world game that gave out an entire online mode for free

if you want to compare the upgrade of Tsushima, I'd say upgrade it with another 50 hour huge game like FF7R, that upgrade is amazing and is free, best next gen upgrade period

There is an old parable about a farmer who needed workers in his field.
In the morning a man comes by and askes if there was work available, The farmer says I will pay you 100 dollars at the end of the day to work the field.
Man says alright and starts working the field.
In the afternoon another man comes by the farm and askes if there was work available. The farmer says I will pay you 100 dollars at the end of the day to work the field.
man says alright and starts working.
In the evening another man comes by the farm and askes if there was work available. The farmer says I will pay you 100 dollars at the end of the day.
man says alright and starts working.

Sony is the Farmer
YOU as an early adopter are the man who showed up in the morning and worked all day long.
It's all fair right? You accepted the pay rate. You worked the hours.

How are game length/size related to improved framerate, resolution and load times on better hardware? they aren't
if you know anything about game development, you wouldn't ask that question, the amount of assets and data that needs to be altered(improved) in a super linear super small game like Hellblade is a joke compared to all the systems and subsystems and layers of content in a huge open world game, the slightest change and everything breaks, especially considering Hellblade is using an stock multiplatform engine like Unreal and Tsushima has a custom in house console focused engine

Open world games are notoriously buggy. I don't know why but probably due to the sheer number of systems in place already. I don't think I would dismiss that so easily.

It’s a big deal over nothing. There are far more complicated things in life, such as the human mind and its ability to make a relatively simple process sound complicated.

Wait? I can now buy the PS5 upgrade for my standard version of GoT for 10 dollars? I thought I had to upgrade to the directors cut and then pay 10 dollars? for like 30-40 dollars or some shit? :/

Since I haven't played an AC since black flag, maybe that's why I could push through lol. But of course the level polish is another level from ac games too.

Literally zero assets need to be altered, since it's running on better hardware.

We are talking about better hardware, not doing something more intensive on the same hardware; you think I couldn't go back and run AC Unity on 2021 hardware with much higher framerates/resolution/faster loading than 2014 hardware? C'mon son.

Right.....cuz hardware automatically fixes complex systems in open worlds? I guess Bethesda should have have just bumped up the sys requirements for all their games that were so horribly buggy? It that how it works?

Come On What GIF by MOODMAN

TBF, this isn't a content update for Hellblade, and SP already updated the (output) resolution and framerate for GoT for free so...in many ways they're kind of just doing the same thing.

However I don't think their free GoT update improved any of the asset quality (people thinking this doesn't matter because output resolution is bumped up don't understand tech; a blurry texture at 4K is the same blurry texture, higher output resolution points it out even more. That's why updating asset quality matters), so that's probably where this Hellblade update has a one-up on them. Everything else tho (again, if just ignore the story expansion content for Ghosts) is equal and in both cases free of charge.

So I think you're getting worked up over nothing for this one.

It's dumb, I wish Sony wouldn't do it. Of course if there is dlc involved then they can charge as needed but the updates should be free across the board.

What the hell are you talking about?
Who the fuck is talking about fixing things?

Improved framerate, resolution and loading have no bearing on game size or length when it's running on better hardware; AC unity isn't suddenly gonna break cause now I can reach 60fps on it, or UHD.

please stop, you have no idea what you're talking about, for optimization/performance improvement, several assets use prerendered lighting/shadows etc., if you change the lighting systems, reflections, higher quality assets etc., everything needs to be redone and repackaged, that means new optimization, new quality assurance and so on, and this is hard enough in a small corridor walking sim game, but in an open world game it is a nightmare with all the streaming/LOD systems

People are willing to pay so Sony would be retarded to turn that cash down. Had Microsoft not shot themselves in the foot to start last Gen, you’d have to pay for Xbox upgrades too.

Supply and demand buddy, just economics. It’s also not a good comparison, how much would they charge for the Hellblade enhancement? It’s a gamepass game and a budget one at that.

If you want Sony to change, please vote with your wallet. You also better have a PS5, otherwise this is thread crap.

this is exactly what I'm talking about, what are you talking about? because nobody here knows, everybody is clowning you because you are the clown, stop being stupid, read the topic, then come back or stop responding to me, YOU replied to me, not me to you
