Hellblade enhancements vs GOT directors cuts enhancements (Yes, this is post upset at Sony for charging)

What Hellblade released today for their enhancements

Ray tracing on both Series X & S
  • Up to 4K resolution
  • Up to 120hz
  • Updated materials, particles and details
  • Chapter select

What GOT is offereing for the ps4 > ps5 upgrades

  • Japanese lip-sync
  • Duelsense Support functionality
  • Reduced load times
  • 3D audio
  • Dynamic 4K 60 FPS
Again, charging for the expansion is fine, but this is the 2nd time in two month the competition is offering a more robust technical upgrade for free while us PS5 owners are being charged for what should be free. Having to pay for 4k 60 is the most disappointing part as that is becoming standard now in the industry. I know most ps5 owners won't put pressure on Sony, but this should continued to be pointed out in comparisons every chance they get.

Yeah, im not a fan of the route sony’s taken in regard to updates. Spiderman wasnt much better. Microsofts is objectively better for the customer, but sony is making alot of money off these at the end of the day, so it doesnt make a huge difference for them. Ive never played got, so i will probably buy the directors cut, but i can see someone whose already played the game being miffed at having to pay for an upgrade

I really want to which is why I'm continually disappointed. Just 4k 60 support is what I want. I wish that part wasn't tied behind dlc and even worse behind an extra 10$ to upgrade. Feels like i'm being punished at this point for being an early adopter.

I am primarily a xbox and PC gamer now.

My one comment is, I think this is an issue where the Playstation marketplace needs to leverage their purchasing or non-purchasing power. I don't think it looks good but I don't know if it's a huge issue.

I would be more annoyed with the fact that Sony aren't trying to copy FPS boost.

Like I said before. Sony is becoming greedy Mfers and anti consumers worse than the ps3 days.
people should fucking talk with their wallets. Stop fucking being a sheep and buy whatever.
Sony is already at loss with year to year of numbers of ps+ plus members ( even though the ps5 was released in addition to the ps4 user base )

keep them pressured till they fucking break and kick the old mfer bitch out of the company alongside his minions and go back to HQ in Japan.

enough with the bullshit from SJW shit to censoring games to ugly fat fucks main characters to extra charging per game when every other competitor is still 60$ For their first-party games.

how will they change when even the hardcore Sony fanboys in this very forum are sheep and just follow/buy without even thinking.

( oh it’s a new game from Sony it’s ok I’ll bend over and get fucked money wise so I can buy it )

pathetic really.
I do own a ps5 but fuck if I am buying a single game at 90$ Canadian ( 100$ after-tax ).
They can fuck off money doesn’t grow on a tree even if I have it and not money concerned.

PS5 owners are being charged for what should be free.

Since when you're owed to get new things for free?
Sony has the right to ask people to pay for their extra work, consumers can choose not to pay if they believe the extra features are not worth 10$.
It's really as simple as that.
The fact that from a consumer perspective having things for free is better than paying is a kinda obivous and moot point but it's not a reason to expect that to be the norm.
Eventually market decides what's fair and what's not.
For Ghost of Tsushima they gave away the multiplayer mode and they made a free 60fps patch for PS5. If people are happy to play GOT through BC at 60fps on PS5 (and tbh it's a valid choice) they simply won' t spend the extra 10$.
These threads are just useless, vote with your wallet.

Games like spider man, death stranding, ghosts of Tsushima e.t.c should have their ps5 enhancements (which in the case of GOT are minimal) for free just like games like gears of war 5 and Hellblade (and most third party games) do. The extra content in some cases like DS and GOT should have been sold as DLC seperately.

consumers also have the right to be upset at a particular business practice of a company. The "you owed nothing x company can do what they want" is a true argument in theory, but if you're a discontent consumer expressing that discontent is why the consoles aren't 1000$ vs 500$ or why Xbox is offering these services free. We know they WANT to charge, but us expressing discontent is why they have been more "consumer friendly" lately. Sony doesn't have the incentive to do anything "kind" for the consumer because they are the market leader, so yes I understand the business behind it, but as a consumer you don't have to just take it on the chin. I'm not going to buy the upgrades as my own personal values won't let me when most of the industry is establishing a resolution and frame rate bump are bare minimum upgrades given out for free.

You're right that ultimately people need to vote with their wallet. But the threads are not entirely useless. It promotes awareness, discussion, and even adds a little extra PR pressure to Sony which ultimately actually helps Sony consumers in maybe one day reversing this kind of move. The only thing people can do on here is discuss anyway, so that's what they're doing.

As far as the "since when you're owed new things for free?" Well Sucker Punch's last game got free PS Pro texture updates for free. So, the last game they put out was different than this.

After Wreckfest charged $10 for the non-PS+ upgrade I think we should call the extra $10 for next gen games the Jim Ryan tax.
Wreckfest charges 10 bucks on Xbox too.

Also, another one that does this on Xbox is Control. The ps plus gave the Ultimate Edition that includes the ps5 upgrade, while the game pass version of Control is the normal edition...

Another example is NBA2k, game pass has the last gen version of it.

Charging for a patch is scummy as fuck and no one can convince me otherwise, specially when even greedy Ubisoft updates their games for free.

Ubisoft work on For Honor, Breakpoint, The Division 2 and Siege was exceptional!

Keep fighting the good fight. I know you and your fellow constituents are right in illuminating these long smelly inward pointing fingers of Sony, and I hope you'll someday succeed in growing this snowball.

That only solves 50% of the problem.
How important is:
  • Japanese lip-sync
  • Duelsense Support functionality
  • Reduced load times
  • 3D audio
To you? If it's not worth the $10 to upgrade to the PS5 version, don't get it (or wait and the price will go down, especially the disc version) and just play the PS4 version on the PS5 in ~4k 60fps.
Load times are already really fast on the PS4, at least for fast travel.

As long as rabid fanboys support it, its here to stay.

As great as GoT was, I'm glad I only rented it. Got the platinum and returned it. When I have the Ps5, I'll just rent it again if its included on the physical edition just for the expansion. I have no interest in replaying the whole game again.

Best advice is vote with your wallet. This post is just noise in an echo chamber here and just considered "trolling".

I'd like to thank all the Xbox players for thinking of us through these hard times as a PS user. Always so outraged on our behalf. Thanks.
Xbox players are very concerned about how PlayStation and Nintendo players spend their money.

In the end, for me, it comes down to the quality of the software in question. It's been a long time since I have considered Xbox game quality to be even close to the competition. It is proving to be a bit more affordable (assuming you're not buying and playing games while simultaneously paying monthly fees for GamePass).

Ghost of Tsuhima already got a 60fps free update and resolution is already 1800p with checkerboarding, it looks already really clean. Even with the dedicated PS5 upgrade it will still be dynamic 4K at 60fps (no promise of native 4K) so not much different than what you already got for free.
The rest (3D audio, DualSense support, proper SSD support with short loadings and other stuff) does not belong to the bare minimum res/frame rate upgrades you were talking about.
Again if those features are not worth just 10$ to you can simply not upgrade.
Other people will think it's fine for what they are offering.
In any case rest assured that they've have done their maths and they know that with over 5 million copies sold even if 1m decides to upgrade that's 10 million dollars they get compared to zero if they give the upgrade for free.
The fact that some users will cry online because they want things for free as if that's normal is not doing much to change their perspective.

I find it funny how Microsoft treated Sony players better than Sony themselves with the Doom update (compared to Spider-Man or GoT). I'm extremely disappointed with Sony and how they are managing things. Xbox just provides the better service currently in my opinion in regards to backwards compatibility and upgrades.

It's a shame because when Sony were humbled in the PS3 days they were wiping the floor with Microsoft in terms of features and building a platform, but there has been a bit of a role reversal.

Mostly because the have the better backwards compatibility infrastructure. If things have to be upgraded manually, the more likely it won't be free.
They do this because they accept to invest money in it for the consumers. MCC has been updated during the entire generation, it has nothing to do with BC. I played all Halo games when it was released, and discovered a ton of new updates for free years later. If I remember correctly, Halo 2 was entirely remastered for no additional cost.

Investing in BC is another choice they made. Sony could have made the same but they did not, and we all know why. It is for the exact same reason that they are charging today for updates. If PS consumers are okay with this, then that's fine I guess.

Why are you comparing a full-price title to a mid-price one?

I mean, why stop there? Why not moan about Sony charging more in the first place? Because evidently the amount of work involved is the same /s
Gears of War 5 also got Series enhancements for free and so have a ton of third party games.

I genuinely miss the playstation of 2013-2018. They were more communicative, and it felt like they were more customer friendly. They are successful, so i understand the argument that they dont “need” to do jack shit. But i also dont know if coasting on mininal communication and doing the opposite of the consumer friendly moves ms has made, will be viable in the long term. Who knows, it probably will be, but there messaging was in point a few years ago. I don't know what happened

I do think its overrated in the area of combat, if you want use the best stance for the enemy type all the time it became quite boring after like 40 hours for me, I started using the wrong stance to make it more exciting. I think the visuals are consistently amazing and the exploration is really relaxing and fun but the "bird directing you to content" part was kinda pointless in the end (If you use the map/look for smoke) and I thought that would be much more than it ended up being. I was hoping that there would be a bigger connection between all the wildlife and finding stuff in-game diagetically but it was just a (pretty badly programmed) bird every time, they didn't even give you different coloured birds.

So that stuff was a letdown for me, and depending on what you value (pure gameplay/combat vs. immersion/ambiance/"art") that could take it down only a few points or as much as 10-15 points on an absolute scale. I still haven't finished the main game, but I doubt I would replay the main campaign again even with the upgrades, its a bit too bloated but they are afraid to release short games these days unfortunately.

I think I overhyped it in my mind after BotW and how much I loved how that did an open world and exploration so its my own fault, but I don't know if casuals or people are new to the genre would think about these problems I have with it, plus they'd probably not do everything on the map like I did and not get burnt out/bored.
