I mean an open world with deep, interactive and polished sandbox gameplay and exploration like RDR, BOTW or GTAV. I want a world teeming with life and possibilities.

I still feel like the Cyberpunk open world dream needs to be realized. 2077 felt like fools gold to me because the world, while beautiful, was completely detached from the feeling of being highly advanced and was actually very crude and rudimentary.

The problem is it will probably take a major developer to accomplish such a game even though Cyberpunk theme has been trending all generation.

i think cdpr will do a no mans sky and eventually the game will be alright, its a shame they released an alpha

i cant think of anyone else that could do a ripper open world atm other than rockstar
I think the world is so fundamentally broken in terms of AI, physics and fine detail that it would take a hell of a lot of money or a miracle to fix it. Like a house built on an unstable foundation. I would like to hope though.

Already do, It's called Deus Ex.

that's not really open world, you have a few separated hub worlds but that's not the same as an open world/sandbox game.

yeah, that would be amazing. the issue I see tho is that it would be extremely hard to pull off. all the dense detail that would need to be there would not only be hard on the hardware you run it on, but also on the developers and artists that have to create, place and program all the assets.

I would propose an open world cyberpunk game in the graphics style of Build Engine titles.

of course I'm not saying it should actually use an older engine but instead mimic the style and be as light weight as possible.
because this artstyle is nice to look at, and extremely undemanding compared to modern graphics and it is way easer on the art team and programmers.

an open world cyberpunk style game that uses Build Engine-link graphics could actually work and is way more feasible than one using state of the art graphics.
and because of that it could be way more densely populated with assets, fully traversable buildings and NPCs, which would make it way more engaging I think that something like CP2077, which is honestly the dullest open world imaginable.

Deus EX has many games.

Call me crazy, but for me Cyberpunk 2077’s world and scope was big enough. I wouldn’t really mind a little bit more interactivity, but I think they did a quite commendable job on the world and environment with all things considered. Then again, I’m one of the few people who really enjoyed the game despite it’s issues and abundance of glitches.

i honestly don't like the examples you gave for open worlds.
R* worlds feel less like living interactive worlds and more like a a bunch of railroaded events jumbled all over the place. They're good to watch, horrible to partake in.
BotW style, while good for what it wants, wouldn't fit something like a cyberpunk game tbh.

K, now i'll try to throw some stuff out there and hope something sticks:

Semi-open worlds/open levels/RPGs:
-Deus Ex Series
-EYE Divine Cybermancy
-The Outer Worlds //space but has plenty of cyberpunk elements
-Shadowrun series //cyberpunk fantasy
-Necromunda: Hired Gun //not really cyberpunk and more of a dark sci-fi fantasy. Well, Its warhammer.

Open world with some "buts":
-Cloudpunk //mostly driving, basically a delivery simulator. Heard story is so-so too.
-Far Cry Blood Dragon //Cyberpunk Aesthetics but set on an tropical island raher than a big city...
-Crosscode //open world rpg set in a futuristic/sci-fi setting.... but can't really be called a cyberpunk one although some bits of it sorta fit the bill
-Hover //parkour game. Barrel bottom scrapping honestly
-Cybertaxi //retro driving game with some very particular mechanics. Barrel bottom too

Weird:
-Cruelty Squad

Full cyberpunk open worlds are fairly difficult to make, which is why we don't see a whole lot of those. So in a sense we could say CDPR was being very daring developing a game such as Cyberpunk 2077, and like it or not its probably the only title out there that does exactly what you want. I don't think it does it poorly either, launch bugs and glitches aside.
Aside from it your best hopes would be stuff like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen.

I Want GIF

Now lets get one thing straight.

I want an open world Cyberpunk type game looking exactly like this image here. JUST. LIKE. THAT !!!

I want to be able to use a flying car and switch vertically between different traffic routes when trying to evade police. How fun would that be. Hit R2 to have your flying car descend to the traffic route beneath it and continue the pursuit. Look at The Fifth Element for inspiration.

These new SSD's should have no problem realizing such a futuristic city scape.

My cyberpunk dream game still hasn’t been made. I thought Cyberpunk 2077 was gonna be exactly that, but it didn’t turn out that way at all. Honestly just wish Rocksteady would make a Batman Beyond game in the vein of Arkham City, but in futuristic/cyberpunk Gotham. Would love to see that happen.

Rockstar could do the concept justice. I doubt it would be for me, but it would inevitably sell 50 million copies.

Yeah, still waiting on a Prey 2 uncancellation.
I just realized, I'm still mad about this. That game looked amazing.

The biggest disappointment is knowing the game could of been so so so much more.. The potential was there and ultimately wasted on poor management.

If they would be willing to alter the gameplay formula, the Crackdown series could scratch this itch.
Crackdown 3 leaned into this art style. And it's certainly "open world".
But the gameplay is nothing at all like what anyone would want out of a Cyberpunk game. Even if the stories of the Crackdown games, technically, are very cyberpunk in nature (government/corporate tyranny, technological dystopia).

It's going to happen one day.. Some developer will capitalise on the concept and not make all the mistakes CDPR did.

I still strongly believe CP2077 was too ambitious of an idea for CDPR.

I still believe in Cyberpunk 2077. It has a great world there but seems like Projekt Red is taking their sweet time on something or relaxing after the hard crunch.

You could try taking a look at Cloudpunk. Its a fairly easy going game but still sets a nice mood with all the driving flying car in an open world cyberpunk city with lots of verticality.

if anyone can do it it's rockstar

if you want a cybertronic 80s experience the best game for it currently is far cry 3: blood dragon
The problem with Rockstar is we're lucky to see their staple franchises like Red Dead and GTA once a decade, they won't make this game.

Ubi would probably be a far more likely AAA developer to throw their name in the hat after CDPR, and while they're not the absolute best in the business, they can make a far better sandbox than CDPR.

Its up to Rockstar now.

GTA set in futuristic world.

Green Bay Packers Text Back GIF by Martellus Bennett's Text Back Pack's Text Back Pack

Beaten to the punch. Give me GTAVI full scale cyberpunk, one of the playable characters in the campaign being replicant-esque. Flying cars, personal neon AI companion, mega corps and the whole nine yards.

Cyberpunk settings for me have the same problem (not futuristic enough) with Wild West settings (not old/ancient enough). I like my settings either Medieval Fantasy with knights, wizards, dragons and monsters or Sci-Fi with aliens, robots and monsters. Cyberpunk isn't sci-fi enough to have alien races or extremely futuristic technologies and I hate the cyborg notion - the man and machine trope (either go all robot, or go all human). It's just gothic-looking cyborg punks with ultra hacking skills, terrible fashion sense and flying cars. Not my jam.

Which is why I was never interested in Cyberpunk 2077 in the first place. Totally cool for people who are into this kind of setting, of course.

Shhh. They can't actually play it They can only complain about it on the internet and parrot what their youtube influencers told them.

I beat the game and did all the sidequests.

Its full of bugs but whats worse it is lacking in many apsects especially if you compare it to what has been advertised/hyped up by themselfs and in comparison to other open world games with similar settings/mechanics.

Sooo nope it is not really a great game.

Rockstars never gonna do it in our lifetime. Ubisoft will have a shot at star wars open world but thats in 2024 and will be gaas tp hell and back. Starfield is lo fi science fiction so Bethesda is out. Naughty Dog you can probably hope if they ever go open world. Guerilla games maybe after horizon 3.
Welp, looks like Cp2077 is the best in the next 5 years or so.
