You think we’re going to vaccinated all of Africa and Asia, where the majority of people are, with boosters forever to the point where the virus is eliminated? Again, hubris. You’re living in fantasy land.
There is a very real and very historical precedent for eliminating viral diseases off the face of the Earth via vaccination programs. No fantasy required.

Especially when the virus is clearly able to spread amongst the vaccinated based on what we are seeing in Israel.
Yes, it's possible, but that's not the whole story. There is a much larger capacity and probability for spread amongst the unvaccinated populations. This is the nature of communicable diseases. If everyone is vaccinated, the R0 is effectively zero, and the virus is eliminated.

Except it isn’t effectively zero. You have literally no basis for that claim. All you can say with any certainty is that it’s less than it would be for unvaccinated people.

It really is quite something. I understand that people want this shit to be over and that they view universal vaccination as the simplest way out, but the sudden overnight shift in desire to trust our government, our incompetent and corrupt politicians, and the robber barons in big pharma with our health when they stand to make hundreds of billions of dollars off this stuff is kind of baffling to me.
If the alternative is to trust a virus engineered by Chinese scientists, yeah no shit I am getting my RNA from Pfizer rather than from China.

Assuming the gain of function research and lab leak theory is true, I still don't think it's fair to say the virus was engineered (as in made from scratch, or directly modified by scientists). My understanding of how gain of function research typically works is that they just manufacture ideal scenarios for a virus to rapidly evolve to see how it changes in certain situations.

That's not to say I "trust" the virus research work of Chinese scientists (or any scientists for that matter).

I appreciate the backup bro, but I would rather that Rentahamster Rentahamster gave a serious response to the argument I presented, I was adressing him.

All this anti-vax stuff is truly baffling. People act as if this is the will of corrupt governments and pharmaceutical companies. Trust the science people.
Which science? The science that's been shoved in front of us that said masks weren't required, then they were required, then two masks were required, then social distancing helps, then it doesn't, but now it does and do it anyway, and the vaccines will end the mask-wearing (remember Biden's famous mask removal speech?) but now we're back to wearing masks? The science that says the delta variant is worse than the original even though deaths have been a third of what they were?

Which science tsumake? Help me make up my mind.

You don’t trust the CDC? You know, the experts?

Which CDC? The CDC that told me the vaccine prevents you from getting sick or CDC that now says you can get sick and please keep wearing masks?

Just reacting to the science, dude! Don't you trust The Science?

Strap on those masks like a good boy. Don’t ask the CDC for data. Just take it on faith that those assholes know what they’re talking about. They’ve never been wrong before…

I think people are missing the silver lining in all of this: flu infections dropped dramatically last year.

We must be doing something right.

Considering it disappeared around the world regardless of measures, it was almost certainly the result of reduced international travel or that COVID was in competition with it and won.

To be fair, every big vaccination event had it's anti vaxers campaigns AFAIK.
We have internet and social networks now, i would say that is the only difference.

With so much information (and misinformation) at your fingertips, it's impossible for most people to really grasp on what data to follow, so obviously, confirmation bias kicks in and you just hold onto the info that tells you, you are right.
With google everyone feels like an expert, you might have never spend more than a couple of classes learning biology but feel no doubt in quoting some paper pretending to understand the data as if you are peer reviewing it.

Religion ask for trust, science does not.

That’s how it used to work. Now the CDC tells you to do something and when you ask for the data to justify what they’re saying, they tell you to wait. Wait for what? Does it need to cook a little more? No matter what they say, the CDC and Dr Fauci are not science. They need to show us the science. And at this point my trust in them is shot anyway.
