Yeah, that's hard to say right. SteamDeck might end like Steam Machines or might find some success.

On one hand it is essentially a portable PC, so as long as you have a place with the monitor, keyboard and mouse it can be convenient. But on the other hand with the modern laptops and tablets, the market it is chasing might not even exist. Unlike other portables, SteamDeck is essentially PC so it does not have the unique features or games that can entice the consumers. Like why have SteamDeck if you have a laptop for example?

Wrong. It will ALWAYS be inferior. It will be passable, but it will never be a 0 input lag or latency difference than playing off native hardware.

I tried both XCloud and Stadia and both of them worked for me better than my own laptop who was not strong enough to handle modern games (it doesn't even have SSD). As long as it is good enough, the general consumer won't care. Just like it won't care about 24 fps vs 30 fps vs 60 fps, shadow resolution and the amount of polygons. General consumer is also not the graphics purist, doesn't engage in holy wars, where people dying over fps drops in certain scenes

It is also funny regarding the latency because we literally have videos with various controllers having different latency even locally and people arguing over wireless vs wired connection (where the general consumer will go mostly after wireless because it is literally more convenient). All that streaming needs is to be decent and depending on the region - it already is.

The option to buy and play off native hardware will always be an option through our lifetime. And the serious gaining enthusiasts will opt for that whenever possible. Just like today we look for certain television or TV settings to ensure as little latency as possible.

Well some people still buy vinyls but that's extremely niche. In movies will still have blu-rays and it is also niche these days. We will probably have collector's editions for example. But it will be also niche. Just like the physical on PC, that essentially died. Internet access increases, internet speed increases, people like digital and they will love streaming eventually.

Also regarding TV latency, it is also enthusiastic market where you can ask a random person on the street, and he won't tell the refresh rate, much less latency.

xcloud is their handheld option.

The next Xbox is probably a more cost effectively built, discless Series X.

Those are different. Vinyl being a superior sound is just an (uncommon) opinion, mostly built on nostalgia or by hipsters who have just been convinced it's "cooler".

There is no debate about playing games directly off of local hardware versus streaming. The former is ALWAYS superior. The only debate is by how much and whether the trade-off is worth it.

They can partner with valve and release a steam deck “Xbox edition” with different colors,case and a year of gamepass included.

What I'd do if I was Microsoft would be to work with Valve to ensure all Windows games, emulators and Windows itself work well on Steam Deck, and to release de Xbox Store, Xbox app and xCloud native clients for Steam deck to include them with the OS to make sure players can use their Game Pass games there without having to install or configure anything.

Steam Deck a.k.a. GABE GEAR it's also an Xboy. To release a portable would mean a ton of costs and headaches for them. They can just make sure their stuff work well on Steam Deck and profit for it. And if it works, then in a few years from now ask some 3rd party like Razer or Alienware to make a portable Series X but like Steam Deck open to install other OS (in that case normal Window or Steam OS).

In a couple of years, you will have the same argument that "native has the better quality" than streaming but for the general consumer it won't matter because MP3 (and the first MP3 sound was well not that great with small bitrate or whatever it is called) convenience won over higher quality sound on disks. Same as blu-ray is losing the fight over convenience of online streaming (despite video artifacts and so on).

Well, you can install Windows on Steam Deck. That's why I propose special version of Windows for Steam Deck.

There's no point in doing that. They tried the split model with windows phones and it didn't work. There's also very little profit margin for a powerful handheld and there's to much money wasted just launching such a thing.

Then you have tech companies blocking newer (now old) battery tech at the consumer level so phone companies and other portable electronic firm's can screw your devices in 1-2 years forcing you to upgrade so your looking at 4 hour battery life.
