Nintendo Leak Reveals Wii-Mote Prototype

A new leak from last year's "gigaleak" files has revealed multiple early Wii-Mote designs that ended up unused by Nintendo. There are five designs in total, with each featuring some very different button layouts. It seems Nintendo was struggling to decide how many buttons to include and where to place them!

It gave me great pleasure to speak this comment aloud in different intonations, like the scene in The Rock where Nick Cage repeats the line from the mercenary over and over, I just thought I'd let you know that. Thank you Mr. Frog.

Those extra buttons by the B button makes me wonder if they hadn't thought of putting buttons on the nunchuk at first or if they didn't think of a nunchuk initially. Kind of wish they would have stuck with no. 2.

number 4 would have been way better imo

The best solution would’ve been two Wiimotes – each with a thumbstick, but one with a D-Pad and the other with four regular face buttons. Like Joycons basically, just bigger.

I'd put three buttons directly under each stick (reaching below the midline if your hand with your thumb is a no-go, IMO) and a grip button if possible, but generally speaking, yeah, would have been nice. Even if they weren't designed to be used as a dual-analogue, it could have been an option, like Goldeneye on the N64.
