NPD June: #1 Switch, #2 Xbox, #3 Playstation 5, Ratchet #1 in SW

The 360 S launched in june 2010 at 299$, so absolutely standard 360s would've been found cheaper and at that point in the console generation you have retailers discounts happen month in month out. Be it through bundles, or weekend price drops, whatever. Point being we can't compare the two by dollar sales.
Yeah, I can buy that. I also bought my xbox 360 Arcade in June 2010 after it was discounted to $150.

But this June figure is literally a year later. How many of those $150 arcade consoles were even out by that point? Besides, the 500k number indicates that the xbox series x and series s most likely sold around 250-300k units seeing as how the xsx outsells xss version by a 4:1 margin in Japan and UK. Thats really not that high or hard to believe.

People actually forget this but the Xbox One outsold the PS4 in SEVERAL Novembers and Decembers last year. And most of that was due to Xbox simply having a cheaper SKU with lots of games bundled in during the holiday season. Whereas the rest of the year, the PS4 would outsell the xbox one every month. Who shops for consoles during the holiday season? It starts with a K and ends with a Karen.

Xbox is a household name in the U.S. I dont remember where I read this but the sales breakdown was something like 33 vs 28 million in favor of PS. But a 5 million gap is nothing really when Sony had a 60 million gap worldwide. MS has always been strong here and the Series S might close the gap even more.
KKaren?

Why does there always have to be so much salt whenever Xbox has a good month?. Everyone knows PS5 has the gen in the bag, there is no need for the insecurity.
Because they believe that the Xbox should be dead, except that right now is a shocker for them that the console has surpassed monthly sales outside of the year's end sales where they are best sellers due to the more aggressive pricing. And then the arguments move to the "ThErE's No Ps5 StOcK", even if XSX is struggling at the same rate, if not, worse. In fact, isn't the proportion now like 1.5-1.7 PS5 for each Xbox Series sold? PS4 was like 2-2.2 for each Xbox One sold. The XSS for example wasn't a stock keeper either, it was out of stock for 30-50% of the time.

This is a myth that's BS. I have family who have just moved to a "rural" section of the US and they have better internet than I do (1gig AT&T fiber).
My family in Somalia have good internet. If anything, its these kids who have no clue about the world.

Hell, my village had a pc cafe in 2005. This is Somalia, I am talking about.

It is not a "myth". My uncle lives in a rural area and has crap DSL. Not all rural areas have crap internet, but many do.

Giving the 360 an average price of say $250 for that month puts it at $126,750,000. Giving the Series consoles an average price of $450 would need sales at roughly 280K to beat June 2011 in $$$$.

Edit:
In my personal opinion based on the time and all the retail sales/bundles back then I doubt the 360's price averaged out to 250 more than likely much closer to 200.

My brother lays down cable (He decides where cable companies should expand to) and this particular rural area likely got fiber due to it being deemed a potential business opportunity. Is there a factory or a big business nearby? They might have paid AT&T to expand or AT&T thought that area was about to get a big population boost.

Fiber isnt even available in my suburb. And I live in a suburb of a city of a 1 million people. Only the suburbs with office buildings got fiber. I'd say your family just got lucky.

The one that stood out to me was COD:CW. Its still selling at high amounts even though people shit all over it. I guess opinion don't equal sales.

People need to leave that internet mentality alone. Casuals don't give a fuck lol.

But but...Xbox has no games...

It only proves that releasing exclusive games (like Rift Apart) in times when people will still "out of stock" your hardware without it is literally pointless because you can't boost sales of your console more...
So by your amazingly intelligent logic Sony should have only released Ratchet when it had a minimum 5-10 million consoles ready to release at the same time since those new console purchases along with the game matter and not those who already own a PS5 who will simply buy the game itself?

This kinda thinking is why you'll never run a company.

Again. They except it to sell in the long run. We are still in the early adopters phase.
Either if thats going be true or not. Xbox is doing great and that what’s important. Competition is good.
You said it was illogical and that it was downplaying when I mention stock. This is the likely case, but we won't know for 100% sure until there's enough available from both MS and Sony.

I called it

Called what?

All we know if one might have more stock than the other if we go by WW hardware distribution from earlier this year. I mean I'm not downplaying that Xbox sold more, but what we all want to know if is it selling because there's more stock available for xbox and less stock for PS5, or is it just selling more in general this month than PS5?

Because like I brought up earlier we had weird sales data for other countries that were showing for month of April in India xbox selling more, but we found out there was no stock for PS4/PS5. Then we found out in May-June in India PS4 and PS5 outsold xbox?

So that can be applied as well to a larger market which US is the lead market in terms of volume per region compared to UK/EUROPE/ other territories.

i wonder how Xbox All Access is factored into these numbers in terms of unit vs $ sales. Like, would it just count as $25-35 for the month or would it be $800 or whatever the total cost of XGPU and the console is? But that doesn't account for late payments and all that shit. idk

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Until all these consoles are widely available like they normally would be... Sales figures are only going to tell us so much. We're not going to get anything close to a clear indication of the market until that happens.

That being said. Every single person that's posted in this thread suggesting that this is simply due to supply constraints for the PS5, or towing the goalpost over to focus merely on the software is suspiciously absent from saying as much whenever the PS5 sold more.

Well it sorta makes sense because you don't break all time records with the demand not being there. People don't buy these things for sake of it.

But I agree trying to hand wave "losing" the month is silly. Xbox had a record month. That's not due to a PS5 shortage.

I just hope this puts the shits up Sony, who have been backsliding recently.
They are selling every console they produce, and it's the fastest selling of all-time as stated.

Bear in mind America is Microsoft's only strong major market now, and even there they're being outsold. I would expect them to continue to shell out on promotions a bit longer.

Well, they don't. Software is key here anyways.

They have a collection of what is in my opinion some of the best multiplayer games ever created. Halo 1, 2, 2 Anniversary, Reach and especially 3. Still hold up incredibly well. They’re my go to along with Rainbow 6.

Add in Gamepass and you can’t complain there’s nothing to play.

PlayStation is better for single player, but pretending Xbox has no software to sway people is dishonest. And I didn’t even get to mentioning all the BC a games that are worth checking out (Dead Space, Oblivion, Lost Odyssey, Beyond Good and Evil HD, MGS 2 & 3 & Peace Walker, Soul Calibur 2, Hard Corps Uprising, Conker).

And in less than 2 weeks, Flight Sim and The Ascent.

Software IS key, and I had a PS4 and was ready to be done with Xbox. They swayed me with their software.

Great month for Xbox.
See folks. This is how it's done. ^

I know you prefer blue over green, and due to the subject matter, and human nature. We'll disagree and opinion differently on quite a few things.

But when you simply reply as you did vs going full defense, it says something. I know going forward that in all likelyhood... You're arguing in good faith.

Why did Xbox sell more than Playstation?
Gamepass, good e3, cheaper console, fifa being on gamepass, battle field being on gamepass, Halo and alot of things, ps5 doesn't have.

The only real weapon ps5 has against Xbox, its ps4 exclusive. Other than that, nothing really. VR though, might give them edge. It depends on how Sony utilizes it.

People here might shit on subscription services, but real world doesn't care. People will go, where there is games. And gamepass does that for them. Especially, since its 3 big mac's price in the USA. That price will give you 475+ games. Something we dreamed of having it, as kids.

If the PS5 sells more in next months NPD' thread, are you going to camp out in that thread too. To remind everyone of this every 5th post?

Maybe you’re in the wrong topic if this type of discussion gets you bent out of shape.

If the systems are selling out, then it’s the stock. This isn’t rocket science even though the people saying E3 had any part in June’s npd are trying their hardest to make it look like.

An XSX on All Access is $840.

An XSX plus 2 years of GamePass Ultimate is $860

You save $20 doing it via All Access and there's no interest.

How long though? 2 years would be for Sony. But what after that. Do you think people will still buy ps5, over xbox?

Keep in mind, that Xbox is still selling, despite not having any launch games. This is first time, in a console history, which a console sold without games. If its keeps selling that number, than what do you think will happen, when they have games?

its almost like you are proud or something.

i mean, i doubt this is a trend, but is this surprising? i'd be worried (if i were Xbox) if i announced a new bethesda exclusive, a new Forza Horizon and a bunch of other gamepass offerings and didn't see an uptick in sale.

that said, Microsoft put on a good show. it's deserved.

Funny that the Eshop and Xbox Store charts put Doki Doki on top 10, but seems that it didn't get on PS Store didn't even chart the best seller page at all, althrough it's possible that the page has zero accuracy.
Jimbo already said that Playstation community plays only GOTYs and great games. And prestige indies :messenger_tears_of_joy: Those quirky niche games are not that.

Yeah 1st November of last year was tight and Xbox won. Then the 2nd November, PS4 was able to dig out the win! I forget what happened in the 3rd November though.

And don't get me started on the Decembers!

Sorry, sorry ... I know this was just a typo (I think), but I couldn't skip the chance to poke a little fun.
