Phil Spencer Says PS5's DualSense Could Inspire Xbox Controller Changes

I do not have young wrists no more either, but I like the triggers.

Motion controls + Haptics + Dynamic Triggers can be a joy to use together as Astro proved for me very very clearly :).
Yeah I have had several surgeries on my right wrist and any kind of force feedback on the trigger really takes a toll on me.

I love love LOVE trigger stops on controllers when playing shooters more so for the above reason then actually helping in gameplay.

The triggers and haptics are the most next gen features I have experienced thus far. I just refinished Doom Eternal on PS5 over my Series X because of the implementation of the Dualsense features. I gladly gave away slight image sharpness for an actual feel of each individual gun. I completely understand if it's not for everyone tho.

When new games come out and I hear that Dualsense features are completely implemented, the PS5 version is basically my default so long as the difference in image quality and performance aren't really noticeable.

Now MP games- I turn that shit off unless its co-op.

enjoyed it in spider man but hated it in cod so definitely needs work if going to be in every game. Think I’d rather have a better rumble kinda like how the apple stuff makes it feel like u are pressing a button.

With how closely the consoles perform in multiplats, PS5 has an edge in my book thanks to the Dualsense.

It would be great if Xbox did something similar because it would probably mean better implementation of these features for both consoles in multiplat games.

However, I’m not sure they actually will change the included controller at this point, which will mean a split userbase. Maybe it’s too late.

Why would you have Xbox controllers for PS5?
ouch nuts GIF

I'd welcome it on the XSX series controllers. It will just drive adoption faster. When Sony added 2 analog sticks on the Dualshock not every game at that time used it (and you could even turn them off.)

Completely Unreasonable
They should drop the AA battery support and include the Play & Charge kit free as standard whilst they are revising the controller.

Would be a pro consumer move.

I think they could include a play and charge kit, but people who like rechargeable AA's would say they'd prefer to stick with the AA's and not pay for the Play and Charge. So really, the controller works wired, works with AA's and you can get a battery pack that you can replace when it stops holding a charge. That's the best option for everyone, IMO.

The worst option would be a sealed unit with a battery that will fail with time, IMO.

I hope they do, especially since xbox controllers are the default for PC games and might push developers to add the features for it.
An Elite 3 controller with Dualsense's features would be and instant buy for me.

Yup! Nothing more pro-consumer than not requiring you to take apart the controller or buy a new one just to replace the batteries. MS made the right move giving customers the option with regards to batteries.

They save the internal battery for their best controller.

pass rechargeable AA are so much more convenient then built in batteries.
Re-read what he said. If Microsoft gives you the play & charge kit, why wouldn't you just put that in your controller? Would you still opt for rechargeable AA batteries when MS is just giving it to you?

He said drop AA support you should reread it my guy.

I appreciate the elite controller but mine have had multiple issues. Issues it shouldn't have for the price. All those issues PLUS having a battery I can't replace? It's a bit of a bummer. I'm glad the regular controllers give people the options customers deserve.

Well, he could have worded it better. The Play & Charge kit as it exists today is "separate" so if MS was giving it to you, it wouldn't really get rid of the 'AA' option.

why would I want a battery that works in only one thing when I have a box of rechargeable AAs that I use in dozen of things around the house. Seems like a waste.

I appreciate the flexibility we have with the XSX controllers but I've basically bought the play & charge kit and put it in the controller and forgotten about it. It's not like we are taking our controllers to the grave. On the Sony side, since they offer the dualsense charging dock, I haven't had any issues keeping them charged and the Dualsense surprisingly keeps its charge for a while when off. I don't mind it either way.

You find yourself using your re-chargeable AAs in other devices? How often? But they could have two controller SKUs (or maybe they do already?): one with play & charge and one without.

How is that an answer to my question? Are AA batteries expensive to get that people will need to pull out their AA rechargeables?
what planet do you live on that some one has to explain the benefits to rechargeable battiers vs single use ones?

also I answered your question in the post you quoted. Reading isn’t your strong suit.

I can see that it's not easy for you to follow a conversation in its context. Are you deliberately being obtuse?

I mean, from what you've just told me....you prefer taking out the AA rechargeables you have and using those same ones in other devices; when you could either purchase another set of AA rechargeables or just get non-rechargeable AA batteries for things like a TV remote. How many devices do you find yourself using your rechargeable batteries in? And how often are you switching the ones you have with other devices? lol

I was just using your OWN examples, that you were giving me and asking you some questions but seems to me like those were just hollow statements now.

And doesn't seem to be yours either...

Would be great if they copied the DualSense.

They already copied the share button from the DS4. Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers have left them behind and their controller looking somewhat basic.

And they also need to make the Series X controller bigger, and the joysticks bigger. Currently it seems to be made for midget hands.

It's a bit weird, that Microsoft didn't consider adding some of those features in the default Series controller off the bat, considering they were experimenting with peripheral options and expansions leading up to the new gen.

I think lack of foresight to add some big features to the controller that would be standardized with every Series system (by default of being included with every SKU) is one of the few shortcomings they've had with the new console release, the other being lack of any new 1P games up until this month (not counting the Hivebusters story expansion).

That said, I'm interested to see what their takes on this will be when they get around to it. One guarantee is that the ergonomics and build quality will be top-of-class.

I new elite controller with haptics... I'll bite if one gets released. I want to see what the fuss is all about

But not on the most popular controller for PC, and not in the Xbox controller. I’m not sure you understand what standard means.

adding these new things also means the controllers are more expensive.
I'll ignore the pedantry and circular logic in paragraph one. Maybe you can work it out for yourself.

As for the expense, all of the features I've proposed are withered, well-known technologies that wouldn't add a penny to the controller on the consumer end and not much more than that for microsoft.

I'm glad you're happy with the controller as-is. Factually, they could have done more easily and cheaply. My opinion is they should have done more. *shrug*

Xbox being the most popular controller on PC--while a fun fact--doesn't address that. It's not the mic drop line you seen to think it is.

You said they’re “standard features”, despite the main controller for 2 of the 4 platforms not having them. They’re not standards. Argue all you want, you’re still wrong.
