Retro EMULATORS for Xbox Series X|S / One - Download Links, NO MODDING, NO DEV-MODE

I was transferring games through FileZilla last night and it was indicating that there wasn't enough space. My Series X has roughly 300gb of free space. I'm confused as fuck.
I haven’t tried it within the last few months, but when I was whitelisted, there was a 16gb limit on files I could transfer per internal folder. That may be an issue depending on what you’re trying to transfer over.

There is a hard limit on retail mode of how much data you can transfer to the SSD I think it was 16gb, anything under 2Gb will run just fine from USB(I'll take longer to boot) I recommend putting only the games that are bigger that 2 gigs on the internal SSD.

Anyone tried crazy taxi 2 on the dreamcast?

Or lost kingdoms 1/2 and wario world on the GameCube?

Or ape escape 1/2 and gitaroo man on PS2?

Couple games I would love to replay.

where did you copy them to? which folder?

for games that are small you should get a USB drive to load them from. can be a simple USB stick that doesn't completely suck... I use a super old one and it runs just fine

dreamcast should work finde for most games. I know Crazy Taxi 1 runs flawlessly.

PS2 emulation is hit and miss.

GameCube is also mostly fine in most games.

with GameCube you will have shader compiling hitches sadly. so small stutters during gameplay can happen

this is all if you have a series S or X. on Xbox One consoles, Dreamcast will work fine for many games but GC and PS2 won't really run at any acceptable speeds

Got everything set up last night and played some Dreamcast and GameCube/Wii stuff since the whitelisted version is not perfect; I am on Series X.
Crazy Taxi 2 has some stuttering audio problems, but I was able to get it to play well overall. This was also true with Sonic Adventure 2.
I fired up Skies of Arcadia Legends, Wind Waker, and The Last Story. All were pretty playable with some stuttering. The problem I find though is Dolphin runs better on Nvidia Shield because of Vulcan. If that is an option for you.

I'm on series x :)
If anyone can report back on the games I mentioned, that would be awesome, otherwise I'll end up spending hours trying to do this and then potentially end up disappointed, crazy taxi 2 in 4k just sounds amazng to me. :p

Have to be honest, I have no idea what a nvidia shield even is :p

It uses the chipset for the Switch and runs on the Android OS. I originally bought it as a cheap Plex server and ended up running a ton of emulators on it as well. It’s a bit expensive, but it’s also very powerful in terms of Android devices.

Is this better than a PC for most consoles? I assume it'll run anything N64 and below just fine, but I'm mostly wondering about Dolphin, and PS2 vs the PC.

I have the Series X. My PC has a 1660 Super.

I also noticed small stutters during gameplay when playing a few N64 games. Is that normal? I thought Series X would be powerful enough to always emulate N64 at full speed.

N64 emulation is a shitshow no matter where you emulate it. but some issues can be fixed with the right settings there are videos on youtube with tips about settings n stuff

Well, there’s no contest that PC will run everything from Dreamcast and above much better. Flycast (or even better: Redream) Dolphin, PCSX2 are much more mature on PC than on Xbox Series X. Those I won’t bother to mess with as I also have a capable PC.

What I focused on was Arcade games on Final Burn Neo. Because it brings a similar experience, and it’s nice to have a living room relay of arcade games.

Probably more of an optimization issue. I expect emulation will improve over time across all consoles on Series X.

Changing the resolution in the N64 core is working? I got no effect.

you need to save the game options file (should be the top menu item in the Options menu), close the game and restart it for it to take effect for many Cores in retroarch. some do on the fly res switching other need a restart for many options

Make sure to run in dx11 and disable the ability for the core to change output settings. I have a shield and once I did these things I get an extremely more smooth experience from my series X vs my shield. If you have already done these things then I'm not sure what the difference is.

Quasicat Quasicat stutters can also come from a bad USB device you read roms off of. if that is not the case (if you run them from internal storage) then I would also suggest looking into settings.

but Gamecube and Wii games will always have some stutter, that is the shader compilation issue that is sadly not solved yet on Xbox. the game compiles shaders while you play and that causes hitches.

I try running psx game on beetle core but it is not working even when all 3 bios are detected by the beetle

Beetle PSX HW works flawlessly for me. I just finished setting up everything to test stuff on the new version. I currently have issues with PS2 (I bet it's an issue with my PCSX2 folder) but PS1 works absolutely fine.

does Duckstation/Swanstation work for you? that doesn't need a bios so if that doesn't work you have some other issues not related to the bios.

That’s kind of sad, but I did just start A Link to the Past tonight on Series X, made it to the Dark World, and it was a beautiful experience. I’m going to look through the shaders, but seeing SNES in 4K is absolutely stunning!

yeah, those games can look amazing. good pixel art is timeless.
replaying Lionheart (Amiga) on the Series X just a few months ago just reminded me how amazing the art in that game was

Thanks. That worked.

No better time for this. I was itching to try the dev mode way, but this just worked in a matter of minutes.

Thank you, OP. I’ll give this thing justice as soon as I have some spare time.

The stutters also happen on PC and only the first time the emulator bis compiling shaders.

Iirc you can change the Shader compilation method to skip drawing while it compiles or compile before the game boots this will alleviate the stutters

not sure if that option exists in the Xbox version yet.

Tried it quickly with NES, SNES and PC-Engine.

What’s up with many shaders failing to load? CRT Royale and Hylian just refused to load, along with others.
Please bear with me, I’m absolutely new to RA.

Also, is there a site/video that compares the various shaders?
What are the best cores to use among those pre-installed? Only one of the three PC-Engine cores worked.

Emulation was excellent for the handful of games I tried. There’s even an option to rotate the function of the front buttons, very useful for NES to shift A to Xbox A and B to XBox X.

Im trying to add the files for use with Mupen64. Specifically the Angrylion RDP Plugin and CXD4 RSP plugin. While using FTP, I simply cannot find the folder where all the cores are held. Anyone know where?

You may have covered it. But how do I install for example dolphin. And make that available to retroarch. Got the files but don't know where or how to install it.

Cheers.

Go settings
D pad up and select directory. If on controller.

Or if you like scroll down to directory

This sounds like way more effort than I want to put into it personally but I’m happy it exist.

CRT filters and such do have some issues currently. I personally never use them as I really am not a fan so I'm not really well versed in that

you can't access the cores folder in Retail. if you want more control over cores and stuff like that you will need to use the Dev Mode version sadly

dolphin is included in this Retroarch build. in order to actually use it you will need a Dolphin folder (best use the newest version of dolphin)
look in the first post of this thread, near the bottom are multiple spoiler tabs with video links etc. I found on how to set up PS2, GameCube, Dreamcast etc.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I hope ya'll that are doing this are making sure to set up and connect a RetroAchievements account

Pretty easy to set up, and a great way to rediscover some older classic games you might have played a million times. The Xbox Series consoles are a great fit for this functionality, since they're typically connected to the internet anyway.

I will add the following to the FTP tutorial in the OP as well:

UPDATE: I experimented with putting bigger games into the "Music" folder of my Profile, and the PCSX2 (PS2) Core will not like that.
some games will refuse to load. you will get a "Insert PS2 Format disc" error from the PS2. or the game will just get stuck in a loading screen.
my theory is that the Xbox spreads the folder space of these Profile folders across all the connected Drives you have formatted for your Xbox.
this means your ISO can land on an external Drive whithout you knowing. (maybe someone with no external Drives connected can clear this up

If you get that error, place the ISO inside the "Downloads" folder in your Retroarch install folder

anything that is small loads fine from my Music folder, namely God Hand, which is smaller than 2GB, which would also work from USB. so this indicates that my Music folder is somehow located on an external drive of mine -_-

The core option is the only place to change resolution? I only find this in the N64 core, not in the 8 and 16-bit systems.

You don´t have something like selecting the video mode on Retropie?

2D systems like the SNES run at a fixed resolution and then get upscaled. you can choose which way they'll be upscaled in the video options of Retroarch. and they will always be scaled to your System resolution (if you run in 4K you will need to activate 4k support in the video settings of Retroarch)
