Jez Corden - Warner Bros is interested in selling NetherRealm and TT Games

NRS would cost more than it's worth to buy just to start KI up again, it's not that popular of a franchise and to make them totally change what they are good at to fit KI would be a huge mistake. The big sticking point is the Mortal Kombat IP, I think to buy NRS you'd almost have to require that the IP comes along with it and that you work out some kind of deal with WB when it comes to animated movies or feature films. Sony has an entertainment division so they could work with WB on those things if need be but if the studio isn't being bought to make Mortal Kombat and Injustice games what's the point?
The point is that with someone like nether realm developing killer instinct it could become a big franchise once again. The fighting game community knows nether realm. If a new killer instinct came out with all the polish and amazing graphics and gameplay of mortal kombat 11, it would sell.

Would WB still own the Mortal Kombat IP because Killer Instinct VS Mortal Kombat would be great.
Depends. Does it make much sense to keep the IP if you sell the only developer that has ever made the games for that IP? Why would they sell the studio if they cared about the IP? I would bet any sale would include the IP.

Possible we could see a rights split for movies/TV. Or MS buying it and giving a permanent license for that as part of the deal

Update: A representative for Warner Bros. provided a statement regarding the possibility of Warner Bros. Games selling any other studios, confirming that, "NetherRealm Studios and TT Games will continue to remain a part of Warner Bros. Games, and all are included in the Warner Media Discovery Merger."

This was last month.

“The remaining Warner Bros. Games portfolio is included in the recently announced WarnerMedia-Discovery transaction and will become part of the combined media and entertainment company after the expected close of that transaction,” a press release states.

What Jez has may be old.

If that's the case then the studios are locked in with WB until at least mid 2022 which is when the deal AT&T discovery deal is set to be concluded.

in other words, you don't like the things they leak

Grubb is 100% full of shit on this one. If WB were to somehow sell off assets now then it would have huge implications for shareholders. It's simply not going to happen and him thinking there's a possibility it will proves he doesn't understand the business dynamics surrounding these companies at the moment.

Well. this is Jez, not Grubb this time. And if you read the very short OP you would see he said he has physical documents to prove what he's saying. I don't think either of them are pulling things out of thin air, it's just that these situations change constantly.

TT is weird in that they don’t own the lego license, but lego would never not let them continue to be the ones to use it given their history (Tt was formerly part of Lego)
Microsoft need someone to make the next Killer Instinct and there’s literally no one better in the industry.

I guess now we’ll see how organic Sony’s growth is, and how they can outbid xbox since Xbox don’t have Microsoft’s money……

Would be a great pickup for anyone, but hopefully if they sell it’s to Microsoft because at least then PC is 100% guaranteed to get every single one of their games, unlike if Sony were to buy them.
You guys really want a Killer Instinct with bad to terrible animation. KI remake was amazing, awesomely crafted. NRS clunky gameplay is not fit for the franchise.

If the documents are old and don't apply to the current situation then if he makes a claim that this is going to happen it's basically BS.

One of the biggest travesties in gaming recently is the people who made the KI remake getting bought by amazon to work on their flopped MMO or whatever the hell they do over there

Also to touch on this from the article:

which decouples WarnerMedia from AT&T in the process, is loosely planned to close soon.

  1. No, after the deal is complete WarmerMedia will not be entirely "decoupled" from AT&T, AT&T will maintain a percentage ownership of the new company
  2. The deal will close mid next year
Fucking gaming journalists meddling in shit that's way over their heads.

How are they any different other than their names?

Prior to the discovery deal AT&T were looking at numerous ways of spinning off the assets they own across warnermedia because the acquisition wasn't working out for them due to a number of reasons.

If the documents are old then say so, especially considering the fact that there's now a situation where a deal for those assets has publicly been announced. What does WB having to come out and make a statement about this on a weekend tell you?

These guys are barrel scraping frauds.

Means nothing. Companies don’t come out confirming rumours of sales, ever.

Do you also think that Blueppint won’t be acquired by Sony?

If they were to release a statement like that at this point and then go back on then it would be securities fraud.

Hell, even if they weren't to make that statement and somehow those assets get sold off prior to the deal with discovery closing then it would also be fraud.

The only way those assets don't make their way through to the new company that is forming between AT&T and Discovery is if the entirety of the deal falls through.

To provide some context, this would be like the following "rumour" surfacing in the time period between Microsoft announcing the Zenimax/Bethesda acquisition and the deal formally closing:

"Bethesda is interested in selling Arkane Studios and Tango Games"

What would you have said if you saw that headline pop up?

And to address the Bluepoint point, they are not an asset that is part of an already announced deal between two publicly listed companies.

KI would have to become an NRS style game and that would make the KI faithful pissed, KI just doesn't have the appeal that Mortal Kombat or any of the other top fighters do, they'd be better off buying a small studio or starting a small one to work on KI and keep doing what they did last time if the continue with it at all.

They've been more accurate than literally every Playstation insider combined, which admittedly is pretty easy to accomplish since none have been right about anything thus far.
Grubb is wrong a lot of the time, he's still hanging on to that BS Xbox free online play story because that was one of his biggest blunders and he's trying to cover for it. The guy is a fanboy, he's not to be taken seriously. Jez is more reliable but even here they say that the paperwork he has could be from when WB were looking at selling the entire gaming division a while back.

MK and Injustice animations have improved a lot since last gen, both series look much better than Killer Instinct did last gen, those animations stunk!

Jez got full Series X specs, full series s specs, got series s mere existence right when folks said it didn't exist, he knew about the avalanche game and others still not announced, and apparently the IO interactive game. Jez is very well sourced.

Oh... But just because Microsoft are interested doesn't mean they will aquire the Studio's... Multiple big hitters were interested in Housemarque.

Tbh I can see Epic taking on TT and Netherealm.

But I wouldn't be surprised if WB sell to Tencent.

The gameplay is totally different so how would it work? You'd be making KI characters mortal kombat characters and that's going to piss the small but loyal KI audience off.

He was the guy who thought there’d be a third Xbox that never showed up.

He’s as informed as any other Twitter user.

Is Warner-Discovery not just a spin-off company, to then turn around and sell, probably to Disney to bolster HULU MAX/D+, in 2 years time? I thought AT&T wanted OUT of the games and media industries again, in an update to the restructure news from last year when they said they were staying in?

This guy and Grubb are two of the corniest "insiders". Total frauds.
Yup.

Guy that leaked full specs of Series X few months before reveal and also confirmed an existence of Series S in times when GAF laughed him off is for sure fraud.

And I'm not even talking about fact that he had documentation that Xbox is working with Avalanche on new game which was revealed at E3 as Contraband...

Total fraud

I get what you mean, i would have preferred Tekken X Street Fighters instead of Street Fighter X Tekken. Akuma in Takken 7 was pretty cool. But it would still be pretty dope to see KI characters vs MK characters. Maybe cater gameplay more toward Killer Instinct first since they haven't had a game in a while. Include Fatalities, X-rays.

No, AT&T are already getting paid through the new structure..... but they also still have a controlling stake in the new entity. Doubtful they want to lose control and Disney wouldn't be allowed buy it if anti-trust laws have any credibility at all....
