VGTech: A Plague Tale Innocence PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Frame Rate Comparison

I'm in chapter 4 on PS5 and haven't seen any tearing other than that one scene in the first level. Any impressions from somebody further ahead? Seems pretty solid.
I’m on Chapter IX, haven’t noticed anything that took me out of the experience. The only thing that bothers me are the pretty lackluster animations, voice acting and an overall mixed bag in terms of graphics.

1440p is kinda blurry for a game of this kind? Is this game really so demanding?

Console performance falls in line with PC performance here

We don't know if consoles use ultra settings (they rarely do), but you need ~2070 super to play 1440p ~60FPS

Awful tearing on PS5....

A car with extreme tires going up against the same exact same car with a tweaked up engine that added a buttload of HP but with adequate tires, the more powerful car will win every time. Sure the tires help, but only if the tires are not adequate for the amount of HP, adding drag radials to a bone stock Corolla won't make you a dragster lol. Not that the PS5 is a Corolla either, it's a great system, but overall Series X is slightly more powerful, the point is that you don't look at a single aspect when it comes to analyzing a final outcome, frequency is part of the measurement when calculating a theoretical max, and the theoretical max is higher for Series X, in addition to having next gen features added to the GPU that are not present in the PS5, like hardware support for VRS tier 2 and hardware accelerated ML.

Remember the OMG PS4 Pro has 64 Render Output Units and X1X only has 32 :messenger_face_screaming: Fortunately 32 RoPs was adequate for X1X and other "more important factors" like higher CU count, memory bandwidth and overall Teraflops ruled the day, Xbox One X takes the cake for performance all day long even if it only had half the RoPs.
Not true depend of the track the most powerful car won’t have any change to use it power because it tires will hold the use of that power.

Don't most games use vsync to avoid tearing? Why not with this game?

Tripple buffered vsync adds input lag, but most console games use it anyway so I don't know why devs prefer tearing over that.

VRR would fix this but Sony doesn't give a fuck

I platinum-ed the PS5 version, didn't notice much drops or tearing at all.

Having said that, seems like the PS5 version isn't as optimized if it has screen tearing.

Still seems pretty close to me. Weird about the tearing though.

The PS5 is tearing because it's being pushed harder than the Series X is. The difference in tearing and the consistency of the Series X's framerate compared to the PS5's, especially during gameplay, makes this a clear win for Xbox.

This is pretty silly, considering that the gen before last gen Read Dead Redemption on Xbox looks better than Plague Tale. 😩

Xbox Series X is the world's most powerful console, but in the end it all comes down to design, which Red Dead Redemption for example clearly proves. 🤔

Differences so small you need to analyze spreadsheets to find them.

Certainly a far cry from what some of the narrative being pushed by a certain group of people was in mid 2020. I clearly remember XSX was going to be flawless 4k60 on everything while PS5 was supposedly struggling with 1080. :pie_thinking:

Now we have practically identical games and that same contingent is talking like this is what they were expecting all along.

Not really.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Life moves pre…

Whoops, no, I meant, 95% of gamers just do not care about this. They care about what games they can play.

Basically identical versions of games on both platforms is just not a “win” for either platform in the sense that some people here might think.

Just finished this up (This morning) and I didn't notice any tearing or drops tbh. They are basically identical in VGTECHs video. But, I'd have to give the edge to PS5 for holding a higher minimum frame rate and, $399.99 for the PS5 DE is a bargain all things considered.

It's a demanding game but I think they went with the wrong route here.

60fps adds very little to the experience in this game. A solid 30fps with max settings at native 4k.would have been much better.

They actually downgraded the visuals from the last gen versions to achieve 60fps.

It's a game that is slow paced, cutscene heavy and doesn't rely on action or reaction times.

For games like this 30fps works well, especially if that means you get higher quality visuals and native resolution.

Disagree. I started this a few weeks ago when it was 30fps. Even a slower paced game like this benefits from the upgrade to 60fps.

Higher game rate should always be an option.

I've played through maybe 50% of the game on the PS5, and I haven't noticed any frame drops. It's fine, very smooth even if the graphics overall are super dated and mediocre.

I had the option to play it at 1440p 60fps or 4k 30fps and chose the latter.

The game is stunning in native 4k maxed out. They should have at least given people the option. But the fact that they reduced the settings from the last gen versions in order to get 60fps tells me this was a rushed port.

The PS5 is tearing because it's being pushed harder than the Series X is. It isn't that close with the difference in tearing and the fps drops shown during gameplay whereas Series X seems flawless. Not saying the game isn't playable on PS5, but Series X, besides the larger drops in that one cutscene towards the end, is clearly outpacing PS5.

In the statistics also in the part where it says lowest torn line, I believe it was explained that the lower into the screen tearing occurs, the worse performance is. Notice where the lowest torn line on Xbox Series X is? 15. On PS5 it's as low as 2155. If there was at least a resolution advantage on the PS5 side of things without as much tearing and some better performance, then maybe I could see things better for PS5. In fact, it would be the winner in that scenario.

I'm not arguing about the PS5 winning. I'm just saying it isn't a horrible situation for PS5 owners. Being an owner of a PS3 some multiplats were really broken on the system due to the hardware. The same isn't happening with the PS5. I'm sure you will agree with me on that.

Or it could be as simple as the PS5 version needing a patch like we have seen in previous games for either console. I don't see anyone can come to definitive conclusions from a single game when we've seen stuttering and tearing from both consoles in the past. As it is, the XSX version is the superior performing console version in this case and there is no arguing that.

I can play it on either PS5 or XSS.

I guess PS5? Kinda hard to tell what's actually better, but I guess it's close enough that it doesn't matter that much.
