PS5 is comfortably the market leader in UK

The concept of sales isn't going to matter soon to these people.

It's been available at several points since its release. The fact it's a third-party makes no difference as Amazon regularly make use of its partners. My guess is that the Series X is definitely the more popular of the two over here, but combined they're being outsold around 2:1 by PS5 disc and digital.

It's nowhere near enough to make up the gap in populations though. And as I say most Japanese are buying the Switch which is nowhere near as supply constrained as the PS5 and Series X are here.
I know the Series S got readily available during April in the UK and is readily available the whole time since May across all major retail channels. But Amazon still does not sell the Series S without a bundle. It's important for people like me, who prefer Amazon and only want a console without extras. That was my point.

Right now the US is the only region, where Series S is still selling out within hours.
But make no mistake, the Series S is also selling at a good pace

Well that was Xbox second biggest market outside USA, after 10 years of heavy marketing for English speaking countries I guess the message has failed.

Also since MS is very fast to spin PR news as long they are positive, have they confirmed/bragged the series S are selling more than Xbox one?

Didn’t Phill said they weren’t competing with Sony and Nintendo! Then why are some fans so defensive? Isn’t streaming the future? Why care?

How long can someone keep defending and adapting their narrative/opinion because of the choices of a company? That’s blind loyalty. The Apple kinda way… it’s creepy.

I’m joking 🙃 I don’t want any Xbox fan to have meltdowns over what I wrote.

The Xbox Series S/X isn't sold out in Europe. You can enter in any store in Spain/Portugal and buy it easily.
The PS5 is sold out everywhere.
If the UK (the only county in Europe where Xbox used to have a significant % of the market) is like that, in the rest of Europe is much worse for Microsoft consoles.
First off where are you from? Secondly I live in the UK and I can tell you the Series X is very hard to buy over here, Series S is more widely available.

The answer to all those questions is going to be more than 10 and less than 25 million.
So just pure conjecture used as excuse why they aren't selling as well as PS5? Chips are held by Microsoft to put in the cloud servers?

We know Xcloud can use slightly defective chips.

Retail
  • 28 WGPs enabled at 1675 MHz
  • 26 WGPs enabled at 1825 MHz
Cloud
  • >=24 WGPs enabled at 1975 MHz
Let's use April's numbers for some quick maths. We know PS5 is likely selling at 2:1 of Xbox Series X/S which means 4 million Xbox Series. The divide between Series X and S would be 3:1 based on launch allocations. That means 3 million X to 1 million S ~75% of all Series consoles sold is X.

According to some reports, AMD has allocated wafer for 80K PS5 & 40K for X/SX. In terms of chips using TSMC N7 DUV with defect rate of 0.09/cm^2 or ~73% of 300mm wafer. 107 good chips or 3.21 million chips from 30K wafers that meet specs of the retail unit out of 147 dies/wafer, to 40 defective ones or 1.2 million defective. Let's assume from the 1.2 million defective ones that do not meet Retail unit specification , let's be very very conservative and say 20% meets the Cloud specifications or roughly 240K chips, not counting the retail units. Why would Microsoft be holding back chip from the retail allocations when chips from the lower binned ones would suffice?

Who are you asking these stupid questions?

thats going to be one, interesting discussion

MS kinda updated the cloud blade servers with the harware for the console, so thats why they in bigger supply shor than PS.
Pretty sure that Sony is kinda updating PSNow blade servers too,
or you think they're gonna stick with ps3 and ps4 games forever?

I don't know how many times I need to say this but I'm Dutch.

Portugal, but I have been in Spain some time recently and could easily get Series S or X in both countries.
That's why I talked about these 2 countries.
If the UK, the country where Xbox better performs in Europe, is like that... the others are even worse.

I mean I don’t ever see a series x or ps5 in stock. so They are selling every single unit possible. Maybe ms will get more series X out now they have finished with the server blades?

Isn't every month shortages for both the Series X and PS5?

The answer is always the same right now, one sold more because it shipped more.

Yea no shit it shipped more!

Breaking news guys, ps4 sold more than xbox one because it... shipped more. why did we not know about this complex fact?

Thanks for the enlightenment Kagey!

Lord knows what the WW split is if PS5 is hammering Xbox Series X/S consoles in their strongest major market outside of US.

The hardware installbase gap between Xbox and PS5 looks like it'll be much bigger than last gen in the UK, even though we were being told last gen was a disaster for Xbox and MS have done everything right this gen.

Well all your assumptions are wrong.
The gap last gen at this time in the generation was bigger. The gap now is closer.

we are not even 1 year into the new generation, i think there is more room to play for still. Let's hope the silicon shortages ease and everyone can get their consoles.

This holidays will be the time to blow their trumpets and get as many consoles out, hopefully dropping x-gen sooner than later 3 years planned.

Certainly worldwide then, the PS5 has outsold the Series X consoles combined around 2:1 or worse. There is no reality where PS4 outsold XB1 2:1 after 8 months on market, in fact they were very close after 6 months, PS4 at 7m XB1 at 5m:

You can blame Series consoles bombing on supply issues or giving everyone no reason to buy one because of the PC and XB1 cross release policy, but the fact remains it is losing huge marketshare to its rivals.

Nothing's going to change until Xbox sorts out its software output.

The plain truth is that in terms of first party and exclusive releases I simply cannot remember a year when they had an edge over their competition. Its pretty crazy to me how Xbox fans have given Phil such a free pass over this. The last couple of years have been simply atrocious, but noone wants to take the boots to it like they should presumably because they don't want to give rival fanboys a reason to gloat.

Trouble is, what everyone sees is Sony churning out high-rated exclusive after exclusive, and Xbox offering the latest iteration of increasingly stale and uninteresting franchises a couple of times a year at best.

That's an assumption.
For the markets we have data, the gap is smaller
JP, ES, UK

And for the US, the Ps4 Xbox One gap was ~650k at the end of June 2014.
Depending on June 2021 sales, that gap could drop to below 500k this time as Microsoft shipped more units in June than Sony and was more competitive in April and May.

So why would be WW different?

I don't know how, but Sony is producing far more consoles than Microsoft. Where I live I haven't seen a single Series X listed for sale since it was launched. It's nothing but thousands of Series S consoles that no one really wants. I can easily buy a Playstation 5 (which I did) at any time from at least one of the five major online stores. Even Sony's website has both versions available 90% of the time.
Didn't MS recently upgrade all their data centres for the Xloud to XSX hardware , maybe that has had a negative effect on the XSX availability

I mean it's not surprising, PS5 is still feeding off PS4 momentum, that's all. It's really the only reason why PS5 is leading, mostly. I know not many will take this post serious, considering half of you only have love for "good guy" Sony.

Ok so how many more years will this momentum last, its been going for 20 years?

It's a bizarre sort of loyalty that's unique to that set of gamers; never complain, pretend everything is great, and concern troll hard the 'opposition'. If you want to see this cult behaviour carried out to a T, have a browse of Resetera where the Xbox fanatics have gathered en masse.

Great to see and series s is readily available in the U.K., even had crazy promo deals for it at game and U.K. customers are not picking it up in droves and seeing where the real value is.

This is the type of delusion I was talking about ^^

It was 2:1 the start of this year. That's significantly worse than the 7:5 split from last gen. We've also seen chip production numbers where Sony is allocated double of what is allocated to MS from AMD.

So what fantasy are you living in?
