Scarlet Nexus UK boxed charts: 80% PS, Xbox 20%

Every is waiting for it to drop on GP. I won't buy any games on XBox as long as I'm paying for GP, I'll just wait for them to be free
Yes this is a very healthy attitude if you want game developers to stop creating games for your platform. I think gamepass is a very bad precedent and if I were a publisher, after seeing these drastic differences in sales a few more times, I would drop publishing on the Xbox consoles. It’s not worth the money if you don’t get any sales.

Gamepass users are trained to only play games when it's on gamepass. It's been their mantra all this time - that no game is worth the full price. That's why each and every game that is not on gamepass will suffer in sales. I hope Sony keeps PSNow the way it is right now. Old GOTY games. $5/month.

well, to me no game is worth $60, even less $70, and 80 euros is just absurd.

why would I buy anything at launch if the game is going to be not only 50% cheaper in a couple months, but also actually complete and optimized?

See Miles Morales, people bought it at launch, finished it in two sittings and now Insomniac is constantly optimizing performance and ray tracing constantly, this happens for every game.

can we stop saying this scenario.

before Gamepass, people were looking for sales, buying it 2nd hand, sharing games or even just pirating.

Gamepass at least allows the developers to negotiate a safety net.

How many copies of a game like SN do you think it can realistically sell? 2m?

With Gamepass, at least it opens the game and developers to a cut of the 20m subs, and from there, potential 20m buyers to pick it up. The more Gamepass subs, the bigger the safety net :messenger_winking: :messenger_ok:

One of these days people are going to realize that physical game purchasers are the minority and that digital sales are likely a substantially better barometer to look at. Also it's the UK not global. But given things like Game Pass and xCloud being a thing, and I imagine the Series S is selling more than the Digital Only PS5, I'd imagine that Xbox users trend way more digital than even Playstation, so comparing Physical UK sales is just a way to make fanboys feel good about their preferred plastic box or something. I haven't bought a physical game since the late 360 gen and none of my friends purchase physical games anymore either so I don't know why people here act like physical sales mean anything other than needing their console purchase to be validated

Have zero interest in most games coming out of Japan these days so was never going to buy this game anyways. That said after buying the new Yakuza only to have it drop on GP before I even booted it up tells me to play the waiting game on any of these MS fronted games even if not on GP day 1.

For me Game Pass is an awesome bonus to the experience of playing videogames. You either get games day one, in which case you don't have to spend money that you may not choose to right away, or even ever. You basically decide the type of ownership you want for that game. Game Pass ownership, or full purchase ownership separate from Game Pass. Clearly many across the world are completely fine with subscription ownership of digital products, which is why services such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Video, HBO Max and so many others continue to gain and then maintain their incredible popularity. Microsoft were smart to embrace this model as early as they did because it's the future.

Another alternative is the game releases, but with no presence in Game Pass, and depending on how badly you want the game, you choose to purchase it without waiting for Game Pass, some things you can wait on, others you can't. For me Scarlet Nexus is one of those games I couldn't wait for because it's my favorite videogame genre and the type responsible for bringing me to Xbox in the first place with Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

And you are making up claims

Admittedly the GamePass thing could be a case of correlation is not causation, but it's very tempting since the ratio had never been this skewed towards PS ever before.

The other option is that the brand is just losing relevancy in the marketplace. Or perhaps the hardcore Xbox fans are waiting for the Series X to buy games...which I don't believe because it's not very difficult to get a Series X, just a matter of waiting a couple of weeks at the most here in Europe.

What's an undeniable fact is that the platform just isn't selling much games.

it wouldnt really be fair to expect games to sell anywhere near the same on xbox as they do on playstation when you consider the difference between the popularity and marketshare of both consoles. playstation will always sell way more software with some games skewing as high as 80% on playstation.

This is a dumb take. It's not like they HAVE to develop a version for Xbox and having papa Phil Spencer throw publishers some scraps is great and doing them a favor (Unless you are an unknown dev with no way to market and throwing your dice).

Anyway, they are third party publishers, they develop a version for any platform that represents a chance to make money, and they accomplish this through sales or IAP. If developers are getting so few sales on Xbox, they might rethink developing a version for it altogether.

In a worst case scenario, Xbox might have to pay most publishers to even be present on their platform, otherwise the only games on GamePass might be just first party titles or F2P ones with savage IAP.

Your imaginations are wrong.

On a different note, all consoles sold are digital consoles too. People are inherently biased towards buying the top consoles even though they may buy digital games.

Seems you’re far from alone in this approach

Folks questioning the importance of the UK sales need to understand that good industry data has been whittled away in recent years. I mean we used to get specific game units by platform on NPD until a few years back. This is the most readily available data that provides this SKU by platform breakdown. Yes it’s physical only, but some of you need to learn some statistics basics on sample size to population, and even if digital is now 30 to 50% of sales that’s a large amount to project that it remains valid for the whole. This genre for this SKU does lean PS but take something big and mainstream like AC:V and I think it would be a real good read on where things are at on buying splits.

I’m sure it monitors engagement, not just downloads to check something out.

Thats in itself trouble for the industry by pushing games in a certain direction, but I digress.

And this is where gamepass can hurt the industry, by not selling games.

But then again, you never know what's the deal behind putting a game on GP, as well as how much of those 70€ actually goes into dev's wallet. Like Spencer said in recent podcast, if the devs keep coming back to GP again and again, that means it clearly works for them.

Not to mention the date is about just the physical sales, where ~70% of games nowadays are digital copies. Which again, with GP people get a discout which encourage them to buy the games exactly in the digital form even more. And if that happens, it's basically double dipping, because putting the game on GP means you get cash from MS upfront, and then againfrom the actual sales.

But like I said, no one has the exact numbers except Spencer and the devs, which none of them is willing to share to share, but if the devs continue to lublish their games on GP despite close to none physical sales, it'll mean it's a profitable way to publish their titles.

Waiting for the game to hit GamePass! 🤷🏾‍♂️

The concern weekly is quite something to watch with PS diehards…

I wonder if we see the same people in the Japan Sales charts…🤔

50% of xbox sold are digital.

Sony has 5-10%

Makes sense.
Where did you get those grossly inaccurate numbers from?

I am talking about console sales.

MS is manufacturing 50% series s systems so 50% people wouldn't consider a boxed version.

Sony is manufacturing 90% disc versions. So potential and actual customer base is higher for physical copies.
You are stating this nonsense as factual. Please link your source.

Because apparently every sales report we've gotten from every region has been incorrect. We need to let them know.

Or maybe because One fat and One S owners are replacing to Series S as intended while PS5 DE is non existent, plus the obvious fact that Xbox owners tend to go more digital than PS ones as its a brand known for pioneering a major online enviroment.

Mind posting proof for this? We have Sony stating that digital sales are on average of about 60% of total sales, sometimes higher. Besides, the behavior of the userbase isn't all that different between Xbox and PS.

The fact is, it's really bad sales numbers for Xbox, the thing is figuring out why. I think it's GamePass related.

I've been hearing the reason is that this type of game just sells better on PlayStation. So there has got to be a type of game that sells better on Xbox than PlayStation, right? Anything in the past decade that has sold better on Xbox?

It's definitely not that, it's active users. Sure there's like 12 times the amount of PlayStation 4's in the market but how many people are actually using them?
109 million MAU, so probably a lot.

I think in the long term that will be why GP will hurt Microsoft if gamers just have that attitude. If enough GP buyers say " I won't buy that game, I'll just wait till it's on GP. "We will have to see if that comes to fruition, by end of this gen.

This dumb narrative is so tired and is only evidence people are running out of things to say to criticize Xbox lol. The numbers have already shown time and time again that game pass is making MORE people buy games on Xbox, and actually improving sales of titles on the platform. It was proven with MLB The Show, proven with Outriders, proven with Forza Horizon 4, and so many other games before it. People who are subscribers to game pass are generally more avid gamers who are inclined to spend more, but who don't mind taking advantage of an awesome deal when they see it.

Descenders weekly sales increased 500% thanks to Game Pass.

"If I take the month before we went into Game Pass, and compared it to sales of the game last week, we're now selling around five times as many units each week as pre-Game Pass, on a weekly basis," he said.

"Since we went into Game Pass, our total Xbox sales have tripled."

Another "shockingly huge" increase in sales for Dirt 5 AFTER it entered Game Pass.

MLB The Show was the #1 paid game for the month of April on Xbox despite launching into Game Pass. At some point people will need to turn to facts and not lies about what Game Pass is showing.

In a post over at Xbox Wire, it was noted that during launch week, MLB The Show 21 was the "biggest sports game of the past year on Xbox," and the "second biggest sports game of all time on Xbox." Pretty impressive!

In addition, Xbox Game Pass was said to have added "millions of new fans" as a result of the baseball sim being added to the service, while it also "grew Major League Baseball’s player base significantly. "

But perhaps the most interesting bit of news is that despite its Xbox Game Pass addition, MLB The Show 21 was the "#1 selling paid game on Xbox for the month of April," proving that Game Pass titles can still sell in very high numbers.

Expected but the co marketing was never about results, it’s about perception. Phil is gonna keep writing checks so there won’t be a narrative of “Xbox is starved for Japanese games.”

Everybody wins in the end when you can just spend Daddy’s money with no repercussions!!!

Always interesting to see PS5 sales larger than PS4. I guess enthusiasts are a thing.

Yes. Especially now, I (as an enthusiast) am comfortable with the purchase and not having to wait for tweets at the next available stock of Consoles.

Do we know the digital sales? I am pretty sure that all the sales combined will have 60 / 40 split for PS / Xbox.

Thing is tho… if enough people do this and ratios are consistently 80/20… at which point does it stop being worthwhile to release on Xbox?
I mean, you could look at it from MS perspective. Publishers and developers have to agree to MS game pass terms if they want to engage with that userbase

I said 'Japan games'.
Mario is not just your regular Japan game

When people stop purchasing digital games. I mean, PC is not even present in these charts but nobody thinks that games don't sell on PC.

Do you think there is unlimited money to go around?

At the moment your gaming is being subsidised. How long do you think that's gonna last?

I'm actually more impressed that uk is even playing games to begin with.

When it comes to sales Europe is almost never mentioned unless an agenda is to be had...

A long long time. There are a lot of sources of income in gaming
  • Crazy Playstation users who celebrate each price increase to get more "value" so they pay in full anyway
  • Regular people who purchase games on Xbox with or without Game Pass
  • Regular people who purchase DLCs, MTX, in-game skins and so on.
  • Profits from the GamePass subscribers
  • Profits from sales on PC
I mean we know from EA - who expected 70% of revenue from MTX - that DLCs, MTX, cosmetics sell. In fact mobile games all F2P yet they generate the revenue comparable with Grand Theft Auto release, without thousands of people needed to create such games.

I don't remember Xbox community celebrating price increases. While on Playstation I hear all the time how they are paying 70$+ for the "value". Some even claimed that they would pay even more - for example for Starfield. And I am not joking as the guy literally said that "I would pay 100+ for that". I saw bunch of twitter posts that showed a set of PS4 games that cost overall 700$ and was telling the stories about "the value" and "quality".

I mean, Playstation community will always try to find the justification for whatever Sony does. There were even takes like "I payed more than 70$ in 90s so it is okay if the price increases further". And I read it literally today or yesterday.

I don't hear that from Xbox side. In fact Xbox fans are called the "bungie fans" because they always complain. On PC or Nintendo - people don't care in general though.

Scarlet Nexus debuts at No.8, with 58% of sales on PS5, 21% on PS4 and 20% on Xbox consoles.

Interesting that the PS5 version sold the most and the PS platform share is around 80% even with Microsoft marketing the game.

So what about VRR? Isn't the best thing ever according to Riky Riky ? Damn people are dumb indeed...

The evidence is clearly bearing out what has been theorized would happen this entire time.
