I can believe it works, but I’ll be forgiven if the first thing that came to my mind reading about this was “The feel of 60fps” :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Yes but 120hz 4k means chroma 422 so worse colors or edges or something
Vincent form hdtv said Ratchet has one of best hdr and colors he seen in games so no problem (also he praised 120hz mode even before this patch because of lower input lag)

But what % of people actually have 4k 120hz Hur dur Hur.
I get your point and it’s valid but at least this will lock to 30fps on a 60hz display, whereas almost always having to rely on VRR to avoid juddering is not an option for most people.

Me, as a 1080p, non VRR owner will prefer a more solid framerate at a lower resolution over 4k with drops under 60fps. I might be an outlier here on Neogaf but I think my setup is more representative for the overall consumer base.

geez, i really need a new TV.
4k with HDR will do.

anything better than this actually

They obviously know vrr isn't coming anytime soon if they released this patch.

VRR would only be helpful if R&C had an issue maintaining a steady frame rate. This is basically allowing you add additional smoothness in the form of a 10fps boost, all while still running in fidelity mode with no sacrifice to visuals. Hopefully more developers follow suit and add similar modes.

Performance RT mode would also go higher than 60fps judging by these numbers. Assuming the same scaling then it would be running at 80fps which is just as noticeable as going from 30 to 40.

GoW run at 40-50FPS in the unlocked FPS mode, which just shows how much headroom is left in all those 30FPS titles, so like I said earlier, unlocked framerate+VRR should be a viable standard for current consoles, it's basically the best of both worlds.
