GreedFall: Gold Edition - PS5 4K HDR Gameplay

Game is officially live on Australian PSN. I've checked everywhere else. Nothing. Just Aus for the moment. The free PS5 upgrade comes out June 30th. The game has 2 modes. Quality & Performance. Quality running at 4K 30FPS, Performance at 60FPS. PR hasn't given me details on resolution, but by looking at it, looks to be 1440p. Don't quote me on that. Performance mode runs great. Loading times are much much improved, and this Gold Edition comes with new DLC. HDR mode is implemented within the game. You can turn it on in the game settings. But you can't tweak it lmao.

One major thing to note. I played for 2 hours today and ran into 3 crashes back to dashboard. Worrying and could be an outlier, but watch out for that. Let me know what your experiences are guys. I enjoyed the game back on the PS4 but it had some issues like performance, crashes, and loading times. Excited to try a new run with magic :)

UPDATE - since many people have asked me about this. Yes you can import saves. There is an option in main menu. Press the import button and it should import the PS4 saves if they are on your PS5 system. Also no auto pop for trophies when you import saves like in other games like Spiderman, etc!

Any word on how the new DLC is? Greedfall was pretty decent but fell short in a few areas, and I felt a big expansion was one of the things that could push it into "Good" territory.

My PS4 save didn't carry over. So i'm starting over. When I get to the DLC i will let you know
Is the upgrade available to the PS+ version?
No they have been quiet about it. Seems you will have to buy it again. Similar to what Square did with FF7 Remake

Glad I haven't played this yet, maybe I'll finally get round to giving this a go on series x on the performance mode :)

Im currently close to the last act(I think) and will say it excels in 4 categories: Music/ Story/ voice acting/ mission variety. However it fails as 90% of all RPGs today playing on extreme it feels like playing on reviewer cheat engine difficulty. Also enemy variety is the real weakness, as an example there are basically 4 types of wolves and all have the same movement, attack pattern. Fck me Spiders has 3 games now where the worlds and stories excel, but all come with the same issues when it comes to gameplay and world.

I bought this game last year. Only just recently started playing it.
I don't know what this "Gold Edition" is supposed to consist of, but it ain't free to current owners of the game.
When I launched, it gave me a menu item that says "Buy on Microsoft Store". Definitely nothing new/free included.

The dlc/gold edition isn’t free, but if you are playing on series X/S you will get the next gen update for free.

The dlc is less than $10 so I imagine it's not that substantial.

Well, they can go fuck themselves, seeing as they literally said the opposite just several days ago.

I guess in pedantic idiot PR speak, the PS Plus "version" of the game isn't the same as the game.

The ps4 version *can* be upgraded for free, UNLESS you got it for free via ps+.

Just like with ff7 remake.

And that's fine, but then do what Square did with the FF7 remake and tell people that immediately. Don't tweet out "PS4 and Xbox One versions can be upgraded for free!" and leave it like that for several days. They're to blame for the expectations that they themselves set.

With Final Fantasy, every mention of the fact the upgrade was free was also explained to not include the PS Plus version. Disappointing, but not misleading.

I'm not sure in what way it is misleading, considering that it doesn't make you spend money without knowing it. It's not like you paid an amount, then learn you have to pay ANOTHER amount for the upgrade. Both groups pay for both versions just once. The first group paid for the ps4 version and gets the ps5 version for free, the other group gets the ps4 version for free and pays for the ps5 version. Same thing.

I'm not a fan of this idea of giving away a game in PS+ and treating you like a second class customer by expecting you to pay for the next-gen patch.
It’s pathetic really. Knew this was a risk going forward.

Just a slap in the face of subscribers. Short sighted, will backfire.

Why would that be a condition that would have to be met before their actions should be considered misleading?

"PS4 owners of the game get the PS5 upgrade for free!" Four days later: "Well not YOU PS4 owners of the game!"

In what way is that not misleading? Money doesn't have to change hands for something to be misleading, right?

Game still looks like a PS3 title and the animations, my god. I can't cope with that shit for more than 10 minutes. Instant delete. The game feels and looks so incredibly old.

I might have taken a lot of coffee but if you have any PS+ game and you buy DLC for it, it becomes a normal game, therefore eligible for upgrade.... or did they changed that?
I remember playing the PS+ version resogun without and active sub... and it was working because I had got the dlc.

Loved this game, has old school Bioware vibes in the best ways. It's too bad Spiders doesn't consolidate on an IP, with a bigger budget they could do so much with it.
Yeah, I love it as well. It just really struck a nerve with me, and te quest design was fantastic. I haven't felt so immersed in a story in a long time.

Tempted to have a go at another playthrough and just go all in on te original side, played it pretty neutral the first time.

I liked it it more than I thought I would (played it when it was on PS+) and definitely seconded on the music. The soundtrack is amazing. But regarding voices, I think there are two major issues: a) there are not enough lines recorded for the characters, which can lead to some awkward conversations - at one point you'll have someone being really emotional and immediately after it's a completely neutral default "anything else you want to discuss?". A budget issue for sure, but it's very noticeable. And b) the banter, not nearly enough variation for the companions. Having them shout the exact same line at the start of every battle is tiresome.

PS+ people aren't owners of the game.
If you want to get that literal, nobody who bought the game owns it. Doesn't change the fact that it's misleading.

Is Sony ever going to advertise the PS Plus service as "pay us 60 dollars a year for free online and a bunch of games you won't actually own!" I'm doubtful. In fact, they specifically promote the service as an instant game collection that you have access to as long as you subscribe to the service.

This is semantic nonsense. It was misleading stupid PR that needlessly upset people in a way that Square managed to completely avoid with FF7 Remake. Square may have disappointed people, but they didn't feel that they were lied to.

Major buzzkill that trophies don’t pop for the PS5 version when you import the PS4 save (FF7RI did this perfectly). This was a cool game but fuck man I dunno if I’ve got it in me to run through it again.

100% agree also another thing i noticed, the ambient sound to the forest, caves and towns is almost non existent. Shame, Spiders build these unique settings and worlds but seems like they say we have X amount of time to work on it and thats it.

Tried it when it was a psn freebie and bounced off it hard. Even by euro-jank standards I thought it was ugly and clunky. I dug the concept though,.maybe I should give it another try.

yeah, for all the heat Square-Enix got over that at least they were upfront about it, I didn't know Greedfall wouldn't be upgraded until I checked the store today

if they had said this from the start I could have bought Greedfall on a PSN sale instead & purposely not claimed the PS+ version...

Because it literally is. You have to create a series X version anyway, you aren’t putting Resident Evil 8 in a Series X in without basically downloading an entirely new 40GB version of the game. Microsoft paid for it to be on Gamepass, there’s a financial incentive for them to do it whereas Sony didn’t give them money to make the PS5 version.

Secondly, this is what I’m talking about that these features are being marketed stupidly. You get the physical or digital version of the Greedfall and you get the upgrade “smart delivered” when you put the disc in, no different than if I buy Yakuza LAD on PS4 and it downloads the PS5 version.
