VG247: Xbox at E3 shows it finally has games, but is still struggling to match Sony in terms of wow factor.

You definitely sound like the minority lol.

If Starfield is any good I might get it, but currently I know nothing about it. Horizon I definitely will buy because I've played the first one, it's a big open world (with side quests and errands, and the ability to roam and hunt), and a ton of weapons and approaches toward combat. And it's Guerilla Games which means it will be a technical showcase - one thing we know isn't the case for Bethesda.
I dont play tons of games, which explains why it felt like that. When i heard about mgs and splinter cell situation, i kinda lost my desire to play other games seriously. These days is just me and gamepass trying different stuff, then deleting them. While sony, went and bought their exclusive. So far, i cant get in to them.

If you own an Xbox it was a poor showing. All the Bethesda games were coming anyway and if you were interested you would have bought them. Beyond those games please enjoy your Halo and Forza and we will see you next June to announce another Forza and Gears game.

Really? I finally moved back to Xbox in Nov and I was very happy with the conference. All I kept seeing was "day 1 on gamepass". The furthest game they showed was Dec 2022 and I was thinking man I'm going to have a ton to play at no extra cost for a whole year.

I love lost legacy, but this was not a full game, it was a expansion/add on. Spider man even more so since it's using most of the same assets, at least lost legacy was visiting new locals.

Also, if they gave you 3/4 of a burger (2 bites missing), and charged you $3.75 instead of $5.00, would you still call it a full burger? Not likely.......

Poor analogy. Nothing from MM or Lost Legacy was missing. If you bought a cheese burger and got a plain hamburger then you would not be happy, but it is still a burger.

cmon we can build excuses for everything ....Bethesda games are among the most famous and critically acclaimed in the world .... the same would be true for them.
Fanboyism aside, Bethesda have a lot of potential to make something remarkable but they also released Fallout 76 most recently and I think they needed a show stopping gameplay reveal to really seal in those with doubts

Their little teaser didn't do that

I agree. I had some big hopes for this conference and the only game that blew me away was a PC only game called Age of Empires IV. It's weird because as someone that grew up with MS games on PC (I even had NFL Fever lol), and who was a big Xbox fan originally when it first hit, I don't know where the creativity went. They have a bunch of money they could get the rights for games that I enjoyed as an early adult but nothing. For such a big and profitable company, I really struggle to understand how they could let their management fumble Halo and Rare games outside of Sea of Thieves.

I don't need them to buy game companies. I need them to make something that's going to impress me. Sony hits those wow moments a lot for me. GoT was a blast to play and the combat always felt fun. Honestly the last game that just floored me from Microsoft was Gears of War from an action standpoint. It's still one of the most well liked games by me and they have nothing like that anymore. Heck, bring back Midtown Madness and let the Forza people handle it. They could do so much with tech these days.

The problem is that even though I enjoyed the show the bar Sony has set is impossible for MS to surpass right now. Whilst many of the announced games will be good Sony is in a golden age that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

There is no proven track record for MS and most of their hype comes from third party announcements that are coming to ps5 anyway and the studio they acquired has a mixed recent record it’s not like there is any guaranteed quality.

Sony first party studios pump out quality after quality and it’s more rare for them to have a relative dud. This gen they seem to have streamlined that process and taking risks that are paying off whilst honestly most of the announcements at the MS event were just underwhelming compared.

In comparison also most of these were future titles or announcements whilst Sony is releasing content now that is such high quality it’s already so far ahead of MS that Ms aren’t playing catch-up they are getting lapped multiple times in the race.

Sony’s main competition isn’t MS it’s actually Nintendo.

Bethesda has one game in pre-production and one in full production at any given time. Most of Bethesda A was working on 76
Ima just agree to disagree. Knowing how a teams and b teams tend to operate and trying to understand more about the development process of 76 has led me to believe the game spent most of its time in development outside the main team.

A three year development cycle (shorter considering dlc for fallout 4 and the fact that they likely didn’t dive into 76 immediately) seems utterly unlike Bethesda, especially with something foreign to them like multiplayer. Austin was a studio basically made to do games like 76. And the fact that starfield reportedly started development a year prior to 76 coming out. Not to mention the total lack of what made Bethesda games iconic in 76. Don’t buy it.

Or here's a crazy idea. Maybe wait until the game is out and then judge?

You can't even compare them yet since Sony hasn't been blowing their load like MS
2 different companies doing 2 different things. I wish fanboys at least understand that (i don't mean you, just the guy who said that post).

Sony is focusing on their single player which their base loves it. Microsoft is doing western rpg, which people and pc players love.

Sony doesn't have games like Microsoft, and Microsoft doesn't have games like Sony. Sony has returnal and ratchet. Next gen games which pushes the console limits. While, Microsoft has flight simulator and forza horizon 5. Both companies have different audiences.

For me as a casual, Sony games while fun, its not for me. I like freedom games. Games that let me play at my pace. Microsoft games has bethesda. Flight simulator needs smart guys to operate those airplanes. I flew an airplane in the crew 2 and battlefield 5, well it was disaster. Forza is fun games, but not at the need for spd games or burnout. Both companies can't match those experience.

I cant even find a game like metal gear solid games, or splinter cell games like from both companies.

I appreciate Microsoft though for their gamepass. While ps+ is great, it only works if you are subscribed those month to claim the good games (couldn't get control, at least epic gave it to me).

They have money and free quality assurance. Not to mention man power. All they need is forza tech for tes6. The way fh5 looked is amazing. And fable would look gorgeous on that engine. Just hope bethesda stops creation engine, and use that engine.

The analogy is fine, you just don't like the picture it paints. The fact is even Sony acknowledges they are both not full games, or they would have straight up charged full price. Full games = full price when it comes from Sony, this is a fact. They aren't some small developer who can't get exposure for their titles so they lower the initial price.

STALKER 2 looked great. My most hyped title from the show.

Would have liked to have seen some actual gameplay of Starfield. Disappointed to see it's release date slip so far back.

Being smaller products doesn't stop them from being quality. Its like a gourmet slider vs a dried out big mac. I'd take the slider even if it leaves me wanting more

Best example is the ascent small indie game vs triple aaa avengers game.

Ascent is being praised, while avengers game become a joke.

COVID Literally shut down studios and they had to adopt a work from home, ship hardware when shipping was slowed down. I'm not sure you went through the same pandemic as the rest of the world. COVID was way more than a one-month delay, as we see games getting pushed back by more than months right now.
Can you give me an example of games pushed back because of COVID?

Oh for sure undead labs, compulsion and ninja theory should be ready to show something at least. But as for the other Bethesda studios. It is hard to say.

Also, don’t think for a minute that Covid has only cost a month or two. That has cost a lot more, and it’s impact will be felt for a few more years yet.
I'm not talking about Bethesda though, if they have or dont have anything to show it can't be attributed to microsoft. I'm talking about the other studios they bought a long time ago.

Let's not bring Nintendo there. Nintendo games are just superior. They have the fun aspect. Both Sony and Microsoft don't have that. They need Mario, Pokémon, legend of Zelda like series. Neither of them have franchise like that.

Graphic means nothing, if gameplay isn't fun. And the fact 720p system has more fun games than both of these 4k systems says something.

All down to personal opinions, lots of wow games there for me. Sony has wow games to but some don’t wow me at all and that’s the same on Xbox.

are they trying to say everybody has the same taste in wow factor

No, it is just a faulty analogy. As I said, there is nothing missing from those games. That something is missing is the basis of your comparison and it is a false premise. And Sony acknowledges no such thing. That's your personal reasoning, but nothing more.

Full games = full price when it comes from Sony, this is a fact. They aren't some small developer who can't get exposure for their titles so they lower the initial price.

That isn't fact at all. So if a small dev had made the game then suddenly it would have been a "full game"?

I guess we can agree to disagree, but you still have zero answer as to why Sony priced it lower if it's a full game and every single other AAA sony game is full price. It clearly acknowledges something is different about those 2 games and since we can both agree it's not the quality, it must be something else.......

I already said it is priced lower because it and Uncharted The Lost Legacy were shorter games than their predecessors.

Agree to disagree.

Is this a joke question? This has to be a joke question.

Did you at least read the list? I told you guys COVID would justify a month or two of delays, but not years. Just check the next list and look at the dates:

What do people really expect? I thought the conference was fine, the biggest issue Microsoft will have is getting the wheel of games started. In a few years this will no longer be an issue.

Also, I appreciate what Sony does but I personally am not a fan of their story driven games. They are all the same type of game, just different stories (mostly, don't waste my time or yours by screaming "buh Ratchet and Clank" I get there are exceptions to everything).

Their first party games remind me of Telltale and their style of games with INCREDIBLY high polish and production values. I dont want that from Xbox and would be very disappointed if they went that way just to have better reviews or to have a "WOW" factor during game reveals.

Where is gow2, hogwart legacy, lego games, king of fighters, and tons of games.

I will do simple word so your brain can comprehend it. Games are made by a group of people. With lockdown in 2020, people weren't working in office. Thus slowed the process of making games. Then you have to deal with games which has motion caps (hell blade 2). Since those games need group interaction, and it was impossible last year.

Hope you can understand it. Not every company is heartless like you, who wants to pump out games nonstop, during a world wide crisis.

Xbox fan here.Mostly agree, forza horizon 5 is Jaw dropping though.

Forza has always been, from the beginnings of xbox, their best ip.

gears got boring quckly and halo lost its luster two gens ago, but forza is here, 20 years later, still thriving and thrilling.

in fact, if you're into car games, you should own an xbox, period

A good show but it gived me 0 reasons to buy a Xbox, everything was CG and far from realese (probably getting too old to get exited for a trailer that gives nothing away) I strongly think when all the good stuff will come out the Game Pass Will be on every device out there, maybe I will be able to play Starfield on my fridge.
I get why some people are hyped but I didn't feel the same, feeling a little tired of all these "we are going to show you the game, you will pass 3-8 years drowning in the hype and then we will realese a semi decent game or directly a pile of shit".
The only game that touched a little bit the strings of my heart was Forza... Looks amazing, Playground are probably the best studio Ms has.
Hoping to get the wow factor from Nintendo tomorrow.

Fun can be very subjective, I found BOTW to be clunky mechanically. Combat nowhere near its genre contemporaries. Animal Crossing a complete snoozer. Pokemon is zero fun, still stuck with a 1998 combat system and no challenge

I'd say only Mario exudes fun and creativity, but that doesn't extend to the entire lineup

22m players disagree with you. Plus BOW is a great open world, which I hope bethesda can do it like that. Or at least use the weapon breaking system, and the gliders.

And the list you post here means you are no fun, or have no desire for fun games. Pokémon is testimony of time. A series that still fun, since it was made. Animal crossing is widely regarded as a great game, which is social interacting.

I dont know what is your taste really. If you like Sony line up, I doubt you will enjoy these games. Sony games are more of emotional games, but lacks joy in their games. Which explains why you really don't like these games.
