VG247: Xbox at E3 shows it finally has games, but is still struggling to match Sony in terms of wow factor.

Redfall looks like garbage. Bethesda was slipping even before the acquisition.
Not getting the hype for the game other than it was a show ender. Had they put that trailer in the main mix no one would be talking about it. Hype-man Phil propped it up.

Neat a 4 player co-op shooter. Where the fuck have I seen that before? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I would have been pissed no matter when they showed that trash. Arkane is dead to me

I was happy with multiple games shown yesterday, and said Wow quite a few times. But I also feel the same way about the PS5 and hopefully nintendo shows some cool stuff this week. I just know as a Series X/PC/PS5/Switch Gamer the future looks amazing thus far

I think everyone should be considering an Xbox Series X or S and Game Pass, and Xbox clearly has a strong future (2021 releases look good, but 2022 and beyond will be even better), but when it comes to getting people excited Sony still can’t be beaten.

Sony games are great no doubt. But they are single player games, stuck in 1 formula. I want different take for their games. Like stop these story nonsense, and focus more on gameplay. I dont want to see these cinematic moments.

Plus their games really show the problem, when you play 3-4 games at the same time. Its same gameplay, different skin. I have no idea the difference between God of war, spiderman and uncharted, when you play them all together.

Like focus on rpg, turn based games, or just platform games. Balance them.

Ps5 has somewhat found the perfect for that. Hope they keep it. Returnal gameplay, with miles morales and demon souls are completely different. You can ratchet too. No dull moments playing those games, compared to the ps4 games.

The Starfield reveal was an absolute dud. It's been how long line now since it got announced? And all they can do is trot out a wet fart of a CGI trailer showing us absolutely nothing we didn't already know with a release date almost two years away. It gives me the impression the game dev is not going well. I fully expect it to get delayed again. Stalker was the best thing they showed. I'm done with CGI trailers

Stalker because it's coming to PS5 at some point I would imagine 🙄 Forza Horizon set a new graphics benchmark and looks like a brilliant game.

I think the previous gen was a ridiculous situation for Microsoft, where it seemed like you could just own a PS4 and you wouldn't really miss anything. That was obviously not a good situation for Xbox to be in and someone obviously realised that. Forget the Microsoft-owned studios, when something like the Plague Tale sequel suddenly comes out as an Xbox and PC exclusive you know they are trying to fight fire with fire.

So I do think things are going to be very different this gen judging by the major moves Microsoft are making. It's not going to be easy to knock Sony off its perch, but before they weren't even in the game.

Many people are complaining because they're not reading the article - they're just reading the headline.

He said there's really a lot to look forward to from Xbox and how he's really looking forward to a lot of games coming to Xbox Game Pass day one, but he felt that the presentation overall was just a little flat.

He was excited to see Horizon 5, but he felt that many of the other reveals didn't have him as excited because either didn't see actual gameplay footage or enough of it. The wow factor he's talking about is how the games like God of War was revealed. It was a big title at E3. An orchestra was playing and the build up to Kratos was excited, which was then followed by actual gameplay.

Both Sony and Microsoft will deliver. We have Forza Horizon 5 which looks impressive, and there will be GT7, it will be impressive. Games are coming for both Consoles, Halo, Horizon, God of War, Starfield, next project from Naughty Dog, etc etc. Now I will sound really boring and unpopular, but I really think this Generation will make us very happy, the WOW factor is for everybody. PS5 just started first, with Demon's Souls and Ratchet and Clanc, also Returnal was a very nice surprise. I'm just wondering when we will hear about Fallout5, probably it's not coming before 2027...it could even be a launch Title for the Next XBox series if you ask me, just a guess.

When I see people paying 70 bucks for multiplats that run better on Xbox and are free on Gamepass makes me go wow.

I think its because that's what people are used to so they just cough up the cash, once you see how much entertainment you get with gamepass, and freedom to just try new games, etc. buying a single game feels archaic.

Steam lost me as costumer as soon as I got gamepass on my PC.

You don't know until you know..

I for the most part agree. Xbox had a decent show but this is them just a year or 2 after all of these acquisitions so they still have time for plenty of growth and polish. They still lacked the wow factor. They just need to better arrange the games to show decent trailers and gameplay. I almost think they should have skipped this E3 but instead done an xbox state of play like video for like 40 minutes just for the games coming out this year. Starfield and a couple of the other cg only games should have been left for next E3.
This does feel like a total goal post move. What's left that will be releasing from Sony for the remainder of 2021? After Ratchet are there any others I'm missing?
This is just us putting the xbox goal post of having a great E3 on the field since they are starting to actually have games.

No idea, Sony is staying mum on the issue. I really don't think they are going to release horizon, gt , and god of war in the same year.

Try reading the actual article.

You clearly didn't read what he was saying.

It's kinda stupid. If history has shown us anything, it's that "winning E3" means nothing. I don't know the last time Sony was celebrated at E3, but the scoreboard shows then running up the score each generation. Putting any amount stock into press events misses the larger picture. Nintendo and Sony have brand loyalty, and have libraries that their fans anticipate and appreciate, regardless of what they show at E3.

Commenting on how good/bad the MS event was, and any perceived lack of hype thereafter, is probably symptomatic of a larger problem.
So we are the problem. well I knew that.

Agreed. Horizon got me more hyped than any game Xbox showed mostly because too much CG and not enough next gen graphics for me. Not to mention too many generic/been there done that shooters for me.

My simple question is. Why would I need to be "wowed" by carefully crafted presentation?...
...when I have all first party games in Game Pass, where I can literally try them and see if I like them?

This isn't an uphill battle that Sony is doing. That they need to wow their audience because they are trying to sell them games for 80€ (which is 20€ more than in last gen). I saw plenty of games that wowed me in their presentation, but i found them utterly boring when I was playing them. Am I right, Ubisoft? (for example).

Well, I tend to agree but I also lean more towards Sony's style of gaming than I do Microsofts. Having said that, I also have loved Bethesda's games over the years, but we are not seeing much of that yet. That's fine. Those games will come.

Either way, I'm glad there is some strong competition in the gaming industry.

No for consoles.

It is very subjective, but personally it seems strange to say games that have no characters with animations and expressions set graphical "benchmarks". But that's me. Free to your opinion.

Xbox confrence was good overall

The standouts to me are halo infinite and forza horizon 5

Starfields seems interesting but it is just a teaser

my issue is minimal gameplay

I do not care about co op games and arkane game seems generic sub model game

no wow factor but I may buy series x sub for a month to play starfield be done with it and end sub if the game turns out well

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Facts. Not a single showstopper. Not a single game that made me need to guy a new console.

Sony and Nintendo just have better, more talented studios. Point blank.

Best looking game was a sim.

Other best looking game was a multiplat in STALKER 2.

Was basically a Gamepass show, nothing that made me say wow.

I am on the other side of the isle. I like dumb fun games. Cinematic games aren't for me. Reason why I bother with Sony games, is gameplay. But Cinematic experience kills it for me. I dont like watching movies, since all I see actors acting, and it's hard to enjoy them. When you do those too much on games, its becomes unbearable.

And so far, uncharted 1 is becoming my most hated game, due to enemies AI. And appearing out of nowhere. I liked the climbing aspect though. Makes me tolerate those stupid enemies.

The bar has been set so low that when they show anything, they did a great job.

People thinking that conference was anything more than average is hilarious. Forza looked great, Stalker looked good.

Everything from last year just disappeared. Nothing on Hellblade, nothing on State of Decay 3, nothing on Scorn, The Gunk, Bright Memory, Halo's campaign (which was supposed to release months ago), nothing from Everwild, Nothing from Fable, nothing from Avowed, nothing from Perfect Dark and many more.

To put it in perspective (with Covid) Sony since then has actually released...Demon Souls, Astro Bot, Ratchet, Spider-Man MM, Spider-Man Remastered, MLB, Sackboy, Returnal, GOT, Last us 2, a few VR titles and a few smaller titles and shown more of Horizon Forbidden West.

Its not just wow factor, its competence. Which is still not a competition. Obviously.
