GamesBeat (Grubb) Article on Starfield Exclusivity

Why do some people act as if exclusives are some new unheard concept?

If people have accepted Spider-Man being exclusive to only one platform, I am sure they will also accept a new IP being only available on two platforms only.
To be fair, Marvel offered their licenses to Sony because of their first party output which says a lot because they didn’t go to Microsoft for it.

6+ years of development. Hundreds of millions spent on production. All to give it away for free on GamePass. Nobody is buying a console just to play Starfield, how will they recoup the costs if it isn't going multiplat?
Nobody is buying a console just to play Starfield? You couldn't be more wrong lol. Starfield is going to be a massive system seller.

Yet Psychonaunts 2 exist as a game coming to PS, kinda sad how I have to point that out.

Its not unusual for such things to occur if some deal was already in place before an acquisition or something. So of a title that has been in development for years, coming in 2021, so soon after the buyout, it might be very likely that they are either too far into development to scrap it or have some deal in place etc. So its not a 100% thing, it can go either way as we literally fucking have an example of it going the other way already....
Psychonauts 2 has backer commitments. Kinda sad that I have to point that out. It's launching on PS4 but not PS5 for that reason.

If you think Starfield is coming to PS, I have to say, that's some impressive coping.

That's nice but you still have multiple examples of a publisher that is honored these deals in the past before...

So I'm sorry but you don't even know if the game were talking about also has the same type of "commitments" ^^^^ especially if we're fucking talkin about a 2021 launch. If that's the case did you just assumed for years on end it just had no development on multiple platforms or something weird like that? Technically speaking they did the same thing to Minecraft and a bunch of other acquisitions they made, I think they actually even did the same thing with Rare where the team was literally developing games on The Game Cube and Game Boy Advance even after their purchase.

Soooooo you just sound mad that examples exist of this publisher actually doing this more then not. So it's definitely in the air and multiple examples can be used. For all you know its either too far along development, Sony has some DLC deal or marketing deal like you saw with Call Of Duty as they actually do with several Bethesda titles etc.

Who knows, but more examples show MS is actually ok with this then less....its actually why your post is simply a guess with little examples or links or anything....

Starfield coming to PS5 if they indeed have a 2021 release date isn't that fucking shocking, MS has actually done this several times where they bought a team or company and allow them to continue to release projects they already had in works on the platforms they are made for. That could be the same shit with this title. You've given little evidence to even show they wouldn't do that or have never done that etc.

Shit, thats like saying in 2002 "If you think Rare games is coming to Nintendo, I have to say, that's some impressive coping derrrr" and then do your best to ignore the years they continued to put out games on other platforms =)

They have a history of this more then Sony and Nintendo do, thus.....the idea fits that they would and even their own comments show they would honor those "commitments". So who know if it does happen or not, but I won't be shocked even slightly if it does as you are literally talking about a 2021 title, of a deal that was finalized in 2021....does that sound like a time frame to cancel all versions? MS didn't even do that with other deals YEARS after purchases let alone that very same year of release.

lol I just saw it.

That 2021 release window is what makes me think it might be more likely to still be on the same platforms, its simply too soon. It means that they've already established platforms, developed on them, might already have dlc deals in place like how Sony does with that Deathloop and Ghost game...(forgot the name). edit. It was called Ghostwire. (i completely forgot this game even existed)

Who knows, but a 2021 release means its been in development for a good while and some deal might have been in place for some time or something.

https://www.vg247.com/2020/09/21/ps5-exclusivity-agreement-deathoop-ghostwire-tokyo/

So...who knows, Sony might have made a bunch of deals for DLC for games they had coming out and Starfield very well could have been one of them.

For all we know, that deal fell thru and they have nothing set up and MS didn't want to spend money to keep it in development on PS5. This is all speculation and I can really only go based on what we've know MS to do in the past in situations like this. I personally doubt a 2021 release.

I'm so confused by this Starfield meltdown. Did people really think it wouldn't be exclusive? Phil already said with a few exceptions (online games) Bethesda titles would be coming to platforms that have Game Pass.

Big Brother Shrug GIF by Big Brother After Dark

The people in denial either have poor English comprehension or are being purposely obtuse.

They are the same people that when Phil Spencer stated that XSX would be a minimum of 2x XB1X were trying to say the XSX would only be 10 TF's when Phil clearly stated it would be a minimum of 12 TF's. They argued this in bad faith for months.

Those same people will continue to twist reality to suit their agenda's.

The article doesn’t make much sense because you can still market GamePass and release on ps5 at the same time.

people still question it because Microsoft hasn’t come out and made any definitive statements, everything has been vague
if a title costs $70 on ps5 (or more with dlc), and is included with GamePass along with all other first party Xbox titles, it would entice somebody to buy an Xbox even if they already own a ps5

they never said it would only come to platforms with GamePass

they said first or better, and they also said that exclusivity would depend on whether the games were broad enough to be intended as an entire platform
and you choose to rely on another extremely vague statement by MS
I guess you can blame Phil
Give me back all the brain cells I lost having this conversation.

you had none to begin with, nothing lost

note that I never said it would be coming to other platforms
Not explicitly, but what the fuck were you insinuating with this?

These threads are hyping starfield up so much that anything less than 11/10 will be a failure. If its an 8 or 9/10 PS players are gonna call it a failure.

Has a game ever been talked about so much but actually shown so little? We've not actually see anything on this game.

I was insunuating that it was possible that Microsoft would either release it later or have some version better on Xbox for launch, if they decided to pursue that strategy since Microsoft did not clarify definitively until today's conference.

But they did. They said the games would launch exclusively to Xbox or platforms where Game Pass is present, apart from existing GAAS (FO76/TES Online) and signed deals (Ghostwire/Deathloop).

Any confusion is down to you, Spencer was pretty clear.

We didn't even know if Starfield was a GaaS or not. We still kind of don't. Their comments were incredibly vague.

My posts were bumped to try and "own me", yet I clearly said I still thought the game would be 100% Xbox exclusive.

Phil Spencer has been crystal clear from the start. He left no doubt once the acquisition was final.

Starfield exclusive
Elder Scrolls 6 exclusive
Fallout 5 exclusive
next gen Doom exclusive
next gen Wolfenstein exclusive
all major future games from Bethesda outside of the ones we know about as coming to Playstation will be exclusive to Xbox consoles.

Hell, for all we know, Indiana Jones could end up exclusive also.
