I haven’t noticed anything. Looks great to me. What tv are you using?
LG65C8 oled. I think its where I had my ps5 resolution set to automatic. I set the resolution to 3840 x 2160p - 60hz and that has fixed it and all three graphic modes appear sharper and improved! Must be a bug with the ps5 resolution set to automatic. I panicked before I found a fix. 🥵

Something seemed off in fidelity for me. I'm usually someone who plays everything in 30fps/graphics mode (even FPS games like Cyberpunk) but somehow fidelity mode seemed choppy for me. Is it constant 30fps? It felt like it was dropping frames left and right but not sure if thats actually the case or just my imagination.
Ended switching to performance RT after 5min and it runs extremely smooth.
This happened to me when I was playing in Performance RT mode and switched to Fidelity to try it out. It looked way below 30fps for some reason. Restarting the game fixed it for me though.

Folks saying that PerformanceRT matches Fidelity for graphics are out of your damn minds.
I tried PerformanceRT, and yeah, wow, it is a LOT smoother and responsive, but there was a clear downgrade in the visuals for my preference. I don't know how to describe it, but to me PerformanceRT looked "flatter" (or something). Back to fidelity. And 'm not a graphics whore at all.
But this is without question the best looking game I've ever played in my life. By far.

OMG I've been playing the game at 1080p in RT mode due to the new PS5 120hz setting. My display can't do 4K 120hz but it can do 1080p 120hz so PS5 decided to out put the game at that resolution, no wonders i thought it looked so low res. So head up folks.
Can you elaborate?

Only two tvs in the market can do 120 fps at 4k. Lg cx and don't x900h. And their new 2021 models.

All other tv's can only do 120 fps at 1080p. That's why HDMI 2.1 was such a big deal.

So even though the resolution of performance rt is 1440p 60 fps, all tv's without hdmi 2.1 support run the game at 1080p instead of 1440p. You end up losing almost 80% more pixels.

Disable the setting on your console and it should go to native 4k 60 fps mode. Should get a significant boost.

30 FPS only looks bad when you switch from 60 to 30 FPS. That being said, the image quality is too god damn soft in 60 FPS RT mode for me to stomach when comparing it to fidelity mode.
See my post above. Do you have a tv that supports native 4k 120 fps? Change that setting in your console and see if it improves the quality in performance rt mode. 1440p with TAA should not be blurry at all.

But i agree. People are making a huge mistake switching. You don't switch.

Bought it last night and played the first 2 or 3 hours now. Just on to the 4th location. A few things that have surprised me and people probably won't want to hear:

1. Fidelity mode seems significantly better looking than RT Performance in particular. They say it's mainly just resolution but I dunno, the lighting seems better too. I'd say it's immediately noticeable and a much bigger difference than Miles Morales, where I've never been able to detect much of an improvement.
2. I don't think the game is THAT beautiful so far. Granted I was playing the first 2 levels late last night and I was really tired, so maybe it wasn't the best impression. But for me, playing on a 65inch OLED and about 6ft from the screen, a lot of blemishes that were hidden watching on a laptop are apparent. Some of the textures are weirdly muddy - I don't understand this, I thought that was the whole point of the PS5 design? Just make the game 60gb or whatever if they needed to? There are visible polygon edges on virtually every round object. The fur still looks weird, regardless of how technically impressive it is. I know some of these problems are exacerbated on the 60fps modes, but still.
3. I don't think the RT is worth the cost. We can infer from the performance modes that it's the difference between 1800p and 1440p: that's almost half the rendering cost! I realise it's technically very impressive but once you get down to the fidelity available at 60fps, it just doesn't actually LOOK that nice. There are too many compromises IMO. It's a shame. If the consoles had come out a couple of years later then it'd definitely be worth it, but right now I'd say it's mainly a 30fps feature, and even then probably not worth the hit to the rest of the graphics budget. But I guess we'll see.

TLDR I think the performance mode is the best way to play so far. Very high res and you can soon forget about the RT, which doesn't even look that great in performance RT.

My Samsung TV supports 4K 120Hz with VRR on both HDMI 2.0 and 2.1.

This is the reason, it was forcing it down to 1080p for 120. I shut that shit off. Looks much better.

Soaking it all in with fidelity, with performance rt planned for the harder playthrough down the line. This game is so good I will for sure be playing it more than once.

I get you. So what setting exactly am I disabling?

Pretty sure I'll be doing two playthrough. First go in fidelity. Second performance or what ever. Hope I never get jaded to the point where 30 fps feels like a "slideshow". My goodness.

There is almost no difference between Fidelity and Performance RT. So, Perf RT
What?? I tested performance and performance RT today and they look PS4 Pro in comparison. Lighting in Fidelity mode is the closest to render lighting I've seen in a videogame.

It amazes me how people can't perceive those differences. I honestly envy you. I wish I couldn't perceive graphical differences, I would play everything at 60fps.

Fidelity.

It looks so beautiful. But im going to switch to Performance RT. It seems its just drops in resolution during action. This is the only game Ray Tracing makes such a difference, that I neeed it. Im happy that I dropped 10 dollars more for Deluxe. You earn 100% in game.
Its not just the resolution that decreases but scene density. Less traffic/ships in the skybox. Less density in foilage,
To me it makes the environments less "alive".
Ill play at Performance RT with NG+ when I max out all the weapons.

Don‘t have the game yet, but would play on performance rt.

In most cases i want the best visuals possible and for me (55“ at a distance of 4m) 4k is a waste.

60fps for fast paced games but in most cases:

1080p30=1080p60>>>>>4k30=4k60

Whoever is saying there is a major difference bw fidelity and Perf RT should check this video out:
Honestly, please list the differences that make you sacrifice 60FPS + RT.

I just realized they are using lower resolution on the edges of the screen in performance RT mode. someone who pixel counts could confirm but it’s quite obvious and reminds me of VR games. The image for objects in the center are of higher resolution.

Edit* actually a good chunk of the left and right of the screen are clearly lower res. foreveated rendering I think they call it?

Tested and it’s in fidelity mode too.

Edit again* It’s chromatic abrasion as pointed out in another thread.

Digital Foundry talked about this in their Performance review of R&C. If you have PS5 Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enable 120Hz Output > Automatic set AND your screen supports 120Hz, then PS5 will output a 4K or 1080p 120Hz signal defending on what your TV supports when you are playing in Performance Mode. My TV only support 1440p/1080p/120Hz so the PS5 switched to 1080p (as PS5 doesn't support 1440p output) when ever I turned on Performance Mode output from the game, making me thing the game had a really blurry low quality performance mode. After turning of the PS5 setting the image is now very good looking and sharp. If you TV supports 4K/120Hz then you wouldn't necessarily notice a difference but most TV don't.

I changed to fidelity and sticking with that. The game feels great at this setting and looks stunning.

Not even DF could perceive a difference worth noting. In fact, they made a point of that.

I wonder if I ran into the Fidelity bug because it was looking way more choppy than Miles Morales In Fidelity. I will restart my system next game.

Seriously? I thought they were more sensitive to that. Maybe I would need to say that I'm artist working in the industry so I'm very very sensitive to graphic changes.

It's because that I always say I wish I was not so sensitive to graphics. I want to play at 60fps, but it's very difficult for me if I perceive a noticeable change in graphic quality, as it's the case, for me, in all games I played in PS5.

I think is a personal choice. I don't need to make a list. I simply changed to both performance modes and immediately game looked like last gen for me. Returning to Fidelity made the game to looks like next gen again. I can't explain why, but I felt it instantly.

I play on a LGCx 65" very close to the TV.

I think that's a case of good ol' placebo

Did you turn of Chromatic Aberration under Visuals? Are you sure you are not mistaking it for foveated rendering?

I went straight into Performance RT without even looking at the other option. It looks amazing and runs flawless. Whatever tricks they are using on top of the custom PS5 HW, they are doing it all the way right.

The game itself is as fun as I'd hoped. The graphics are stellar.

Thought I'd go Performance RT but both.felt really smooth to me, sticking with Fidelity for the added visuals

I dont think its just resolution, I noticed some characters seemed to lose some detail like fur density in Rt Performance
