Yeh and you'd still be stuck in this scenario even if there was a difficulty slider - plenty of games have trophies/achievements tied to difficulty levels.

So git good. Or... You can always move on and play something else instead of being frustrated chasing some meaningless UI popup.

I'm not a big From fan. I only really liked Bloodborne. I'm also not the kind of gamer who plays on hard mode out of the gate and refuses to quit until he's overcome a sadistic game's BS. I like a good challenge, but once a game becomes a chore, I'm out.

But I'm also not a narcicist who thinks that every game has to be perfectly pitched for me, or that I'm entitled to every gaming experience, even those I haven't earned. Not all games have to be all things to all people. In fact, trying to design for the lowest common denominator is what makes so many games so bland.

For example, I can't take linear cinematic experiences these days. So often they're trying so hard to make you feel "awesome" while also trying to make it easy for anyone to succeed that it feels almost insulting. "Woah! That board on our linear climbing path broke, but you kept your cool and held the stick forward. Mad skills bro!"

I solved the problem of having no easy mode in FromSoft games by starting each playthrough with about 10 hours of pure grinding. Just to give myself a bit of an edge (strength and health).

Of course not everyone will be willing to spend 10 hours doing this, but I love repetitive shit, especially when the combat is so satisfying.
 
Have it optional with a GIANT disclaimer that this is not the intended way for the game to be played and not to developers vision etc and then everyone is happy and we can move on from this shit.

Non-bullshit reasons:

- If the game had easier modes, most people would pick easy the moment the game started to punish you. Some of the magic of From Software is how people have discovered that they loved playing through a hard game, even though they spent years playing games. With not giving an option for an easier playthrough, they show people a way to play games they never experienced before.

- Most difficulty modes in games are trash, too easy, or too many spikes. Tailoring the game after one mode is admirable and refreshing.

- From Software has built a huge hardcore audience because they didn't budge and stuck to their vision, it's a selling point for them now.

- Games are not fond of offering hard rewarding challenges in case they alienate most players, they hide a lot of their best gameplay moments behind harder difficulties and lose some of the quality of their games. For example Gears of War, where on harder difficulties, you have to think about how to flank and use strategy, a lot of that is lost on normal and people don't see the game from the best side. From Software negates the trends and targets moments that demand practice and skill from the player, which is a no-no in most triple-A games. From Software targets the things games avoid, which is really fucking cool.

I'm no die-hard From Software fan though, there are problems with their games like boring backtracking, very confusing levels, and sometimes repetitive sections where you just dodge and attack over and over with very little variation in combat, but the difficulty is not one of the flaws IMO.
 
The games aren’t even that hard. why do you need an easy mode?

the day from software give in to these people is the day I stop buying their games.
What games do you consider hard, if these games aren't? Not counting old NES games, but modern stuff. I love the Souls games and Bloodborne to bits, but saying they're *not that hard* is just ridiculous. Compared to what?

I'm interested to see how they balance the open world with encounters and such. Is it going to be more like the common sandbox games where the open world is 90% beautiful/artistic decoration or are we talking about more emergent open worlds with random encounters and question marks like Ubisoft or Bethesda. Honestly, I could think of nothing worse than a Souls game with random encounters every 100 metres that are like fucking rock, would get tedious really quickly when you're just trying to get to the next main mission.

From the trailers, I get the impression the land is quite barren and encounters look singular or small, so we won't see the DS2 gank squads. We will definitely get a poison swamp because FROM love that shit.

Modern games are piss easy to make even the most inept person feel like a god on normal difficulty. I'm all for accessibility options but not every game needs to be for everyone, let it go.

NB. I agree that souls games are not inherently difficult. Their biggest teaching is patience and simple pattern recognition with timely button presses. Most people who want an easy mode aren't going it because they have a disability, they just want to beat it in 10 hours and move on. I'm not sorry the game says no to that.

I don't know if it's needed, Soulsborne games are not difficult like a Cuphead for example, take you time and you could be casual and beat it. I beat Lords of Fallen (gateway drug right there) in around a month, Bloodborne in 2 weeks and then moved onto Dark Souls 3, I beat everything in span of 1 year. What a journey. LOVE IT

So no, don't do this, the game is build around it.

People play for all sorts of reasons and I've learned ot just accept that instead of forcing this fucking argument that the game was MADE to not have modes or something, I can believe that early in gaming, I can't when we've had decades of having many modes. I enjoy playing theses game btw, I love playing MGS on Boss Extreme, I do not how ever tell folks "the entire point of the game is " XYZ etc.

The entire point of the game is what ever the fuck that player decides they want to focus on based on their reason for playing. Some might play for skill, some might play to speed run, some might play for the entire experience of the lore, story telling etc.

I don't see how someone else playing a different mode would fucking bother you. If i mod my game, you going to start crying and sobbing or? Who cares? Play what you like, how you like. I'm ok with what ever the developer does with this game and I have no issue with how fans play it. Focus on why YOU are playing it, I don't see how someone else playing it a different way is relevant to you.

As long as the main game is designed with regular/classic difficulty in mind and easy mode beign a couple of heping things like more live or reduced enemy damage or other perks that doesnt affect the normal mode i se absolutely no harm on a easy mode for those who want it.

I know of people interested on the souls series lore that cant deal with the games and are relegated to watching youtube videos.

What's funny is that they're actually dialing back from what they've done in Sekiro where you couldn't summon people to "turn on the easy mode". I remember swearing in Sekiro that I couldn't call for anyone's help for the castle roof boss and several other extremely annoying ones.

Depends how casual they want to market the game. George RR Martin might get some casual gamers to buy this game, set in a fantasy setting, it's the perfect bait. But if it's as hard (obtuse) as some Souls games, then many of those players probably will struggle, but not in the "git gud" way or get through with perseverance, more in the "not playing anymore" kind of way.

I believe it will have difficulty settings of some sort, despite going against what Miyazaki/FROM have said in the past.

Maybe they could give an option for a dynamic difficulty feature? Enemies and bosses would get slightly easier if you die in the same area X amount of times. Or something like that.

As someone who has beaten almost every From game many times over and think Dark Souls mostly need patience more than skillz, and has grown up with most games having an easily accessible god mode, I find this obsession over how other people enjoy their games utterly ridiculous. If people want an easier option, give it to them, why should I care.

Whats the problem when there is a easy mode? U dont need to use it!?

The first Easy Mode that come to my mind was with Fifa on the Wii. U could play a Match with only one button.

While I totally agree that there is plenty of scope for games that allow players a broad range of activities and styles (minecraft, ubisoft and rockstar open worlds) the idea that every game needs to be played however "the fuck" the player decides is downright idiotic. Its fine for a game to have a narrow focus. Not everything needs to adopt the "something for everyone" or "fun for all the family" mindset.

These are games, remember, and an aspect if many games is the idea of rules. If the game creator decides on the rules of the game then that's fine.

Some of these clowns, like yourself, moaning about this I wonder if you'd insist on cycling a marathon or having a ladder on the basketball court so you can reach the basket.
