Favorite E3 Moments!

The E3 we once knew and loved (well... some of us) is likely gone. No more live conferences in front of roaring and occasionally annoying audiences, no more 300+ page threads debating which conference was better, no more E3 hype and big announcements all culminating into a small window of 3 days, no more sultry and scantily clad booth babes - and most disappointing of all - no hope of turning all of this into memes and pointed jabs at the shear ridiculous of E3!

Yes I'm nostalgic, as I always am around this time of year. E3 was like Christmas to a lot of us. With all that said, what we have now is still a lot of fun (this year is a lot better than last year, waiting months for announcements of when a conference would be was awful).

Anywho... what are some of your favorite moments of E3? I have a lot, but below are just 2 off the top of my head.

One of my personal favorites is pretty much the entire E3 2015 Conference:

One of my favorite images from E3's past is Shigeru Miyamoto and another Nintendo dude (forgot his name) looking kinda disgusted checking out the 360's Kinect...

This will be one of the boring answers. I have a lot of fond memories of E3 but the Doom reveal in 2015 for me is the favorite. Doom is my childhood favorite and I had been waiting for Doom 4 since 2007 when they first talked about it. Then they did a closed doors reveal in 2014 with awesome feedback from the lucky audience and I was crazy excited to see the game. And when they demoed it at 2015 E3 I was amazed. id delivered and it was better than I could imagine. I thought it was a bullshot demo, it looked that good. But the final game delivered. They were able to deliver a worthy sequel and more to the legend.

2015 when Shenmue 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced.
2016 when Breath of the Wild was shown.

...Every show since has been bleh

The Nintendojo guy asking Miyamoto a question, and calling him "Miyamoto-sama", in Japanese so bad that Miyamoto didn't understand him and laughed at him. The question was "How do you like working at Nintendo".

Nintendo's PIKA7 VW Beetle that they had filled with plush Pokemon toys and the violent battle royale that wound ensue whenever they did a giveaway.

E3 eventually had to tell Nintendo to stop doing it after some poor guy got a compound fracture by being tackled by the mob trying to catch one of the Pokemon that Nintendo was tossing into the rabid zombie horde.

Easily the Halo 2 E3 2003 demo - first time with dual wielding and hijacking a ghost plus the audience was going nuts such a great moment. What a perfect demo, amazing music, amazing gameplay, atmosphere and the promise of something big.

FFXIII announced for Xbox 360.

As an early PS3 owner this was devastating. In hindsight it was hilarious.

I've been following games closely for years, since the mid 90s really, but E3 in terms of actually watching conferences only seemed like a thing from about 2015.

When were they first widely viewed online? I feel like I MUST have seen the new console ones in 2013, but I don't really remember staying up and being excited. The Sony one always starting at like 2am here in the UK didn't help, I guess. I think I probably watched them the next day tbh.

Which is all a long way of saying that my vivid memories are of Sony's 2015 conference, with the crazy reveals, and then the Uncharted 4 demo, and the truly excellent 2016 show with God of War etc.

Before then I guess I got all the news but it was a day later or worse, weeks later via magazines.

So E3 as a really exciting, Xmas-like experience, basically started for me in 2015 and ended in 2018. It sucks tbh. I wouldn't be so bothered if Sony weren't so sniffy about just announcing a fucking date for their event, but I guess they just like keeping us waiting.

It's not like I'm that bothered about Sony btw - it's just that for years now all the best stuff has come from them. If I thought Microsoft were going to show proper next gen exclusives on Sunday I'd be hyped as hell, but I'm not hopeful.

MGS V trailers always stole the show. Kojima was truly in his element in the run up to V.

This PS Home ad with a catchy as hell song. Home was pretty "dumb" but it was also a lot of fun to get on there and mess around.

The gyro controls from the infamous PS3 E3 with Warhawk is hilarious. Dude is struggling so hard and he manages to clip environment in order to land. PS3 gyro controls made the Wii seem competent.

Anytime Peter Molyneux took the stage, lol.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.

That means Miyamoto "God" or royalty right? I'm not sure.

I'm not sure when they started streaming them, but I started watching in 2008. Conferences used to play on Spike and G4 TV as early as 2003 I think. I remember the Halo 3 ODST reveal (I think that was 2008), and the Killzone 2 gameplay demo from then.

I am with you on this one. The crowd was for a change not cringey.
even I was going ooohh during some of the gory kills when they showed live.
