So it's Sekiro Souls...

Was hoping for something different, but hey might as well stick to what you're good at if you MUST succeed.

Different don't pay the bills. How many people played or gave a shit about this:

I was hoping this game would be a kind of reimagining of the From formula like Bloodborne was,and I understand there is still room for new gameplay ideas....but I'm not gonna lie,it looking just like another Dark Souls left me feeling pretty cold on it right now.....having said all that Miyazaki is a fucking boss,so I'm sure the game will be great regardless.

Summoning not only involves PvE but there is a lot of diversity in NPC summons and apparently non-human creatures, like the bird you see on one of the screenshots. Your mount could be just one of such creature summons.
At least that was the case in some very old screenshots leaked among journos that never made it to the public. Neogaf exclusive ;)

i bet the bird is some kind of magic attack, like something the owl does in sekiro

Im gonna get hate for this because lots of people waited forever for this but 2022 game that looks like a game from 2014....textures are trash. I mean make some fucking effort, graphics are not everything but...comon.

By 2022 a lot more folk are going to be rocking next gen systems too, folks who say this looks fine haven't tasted that sweet demon souls remake nectar yet.

I’m not naming names here, but there are some folks in this thread complaining that Elden Ring looks last gen, who I’ve also seen in other threads claiming cross gen doesn’t hold games back.

This game has to function on base Ps4 and Xbox One. Of course it’s not going to break graphical boundaries.

Good job it doesn’t need to, to be an amazing game.

I’m very, very pleased. Art direction looks straight out of DS2 which is my favourite Dark game (I know it’s uncool to like DS2, whatever, suck it up).

This is going to be one hell of a game.

You're not alone. DS2 my favorite too.

Joking, I am not liking Dark Souls 2 but it's cool if some do :)

Also I am surprise by the comparison of Elden Ring art design to Dark Souls 2. I really don't like the art from DS2 (especially the oversaturated color, looks like a cartoon to me) but I really like Elden Ring's one. It looks much more like Dark Souls 3 for me.

While George RR Martin has been writing The Winds of Winter, From Software have shipped:

Dark Souls
Dark Souls 2
Dark Souls 3
Bloodborne
Deracine
Sekiro

and now Elden Ring.

Fuck you George.

He may pass away before he finish like my favorite author Kentaro Miura.

IGN has some interesting info.

NPCs will help or hinder for their own reasons as per previous Soul games
World is effin gigantic like nothing in prior titles. Castles, plains, mountains, and poison swamps of course.
Yes, you seek out to become Elden Lord.
Character customization, different styles and weapons, magic hidden across the world
Upgrade paths for PS4/Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Respect bro. Very well put. But I can't see how people think BB looks better tbh. ER much cleaner and lighting more nuanced from what I saw. Also I think models look more detailed.
Oh, don't get me wrong - I fucking love the look of ER and think it looks better than BB in many areas. And it's all real-time lighting, too! Certain areas and creature designs in BB are better, but it's also tackling a different theme; Lovecraftian gothic horror requires a bit more raw detail for monster + area design. That being said, those sun rays in ER... damn :messenger_smiling_hearts:

So Blue Point takes a finished linear game and takes years working on solely the graphics to be compatible with PS5 only and we expect an open world game made from the ground up for hardware from 2012 and expect it to be technically as impressive? That was Blue Points sole purpose, making something for current gen only for one hardware specification. No original ideas, no having to think up a story or new enemies, weapons, etc. Shit isn't fair at all.

The pandemic delayed ER for sure. I bet this was supposed to come out at the end of last gen or in March of this year at the latest. It looks amazing to me despite all of that.
Precisely, i keep hearing those nonsense, when Bluepoint didn't even have to lift a finger on gameplay design. All BP did was animation, and graphic fidelity, even the design is not theirs. It's still a huge task btw, but nowhere as huge when you need to make new concept design and gameplay mechanics from scratch.

What From did was simply having less polygons, ray tracing etc, but the underlying design and art direction is solid af. Which is precisely the reason there's still 0 game that can compete in gothic aesthetics with Bloodborne.

So I really haven't kept up with this game at all but wasn't this supposed to be a MS exclusive?

In any case, they need to stop with xbox one / ps4. Especially for open world titles.

Currently 90% of NeoGAF becoming obnoxious level of graphic whores. Just looks DF threads we get for fuck sake, they have this childish argument over couple of pixels and frames. I shouldn't be surprise this this type of reaction in place where they value graphics over everything else.
This is true. I constantly see graphic comparison threads much more active than actual game OT discussions threads on a regular basis. Honestly all of those Game PS5 vs Game XSX comparison threads are the worst.

I’ve been saying this for some time among friends. Digital Foundry is poisoning gaming culture with their FPS and pixel autism the same way Twitter politics have poisoned the fabric of society.

Yes, it’s melodramatic but it’s how I see these technical deep-dives that have become incredibly popular in the culture.
Fuck gameplay or interesting mechanics and worlds, the pleasure is getting those sweet 2 extra frames. It’s a pandemic with no end in sight.

so it's demon/dark souls all over again . ok as i said I'll pass :(
Yeah but open-world I hope and fully open. It's the last type of souls game I hope too. Animations looking decidedly last gen. For me it will be the systems that will matter most. If it's too similar to dark souls then I will be disappointed. I want something fresh and new or basically Bloodborne 2.

"The framerate dropped from 60 to 58 fps for 2 second, this game is literally UnPlAyAbLe !"

I always avoid these discussion because everyone like things they like for different reason.
In video game some might like more the technical aspect rather than the gameplay or world or story... and it's fine I guess but being someone who don't care about performance and graphics I find some complaints (about framerate, resolution, Ray tracing...) extremely ridiculous sometimes.

It remembers me when Demon's Souls remake was release, I saw on a thread some arguing if the graphics were next gen or not using extremely zoomed pictures of the game to kind of count the pixel (don't remember exactly their stuff). And I was like "But can't you just tell if you like what you see or not ? Do you really need a complete breakdown of the technicals to determine if you enjoy the game or not ?"

Different people, different opinion I guess.

I have and I was done with it before beating it. The new sheen wore off quick. After a while it was just more of the same game I played to death in 2009. I'm already back to playing Dark Souls 3 on pc with The Convergence mod. It looks amazing. Fanboys really make too much of something when it's exclusive.

Open world dark souls with George Martin doing a lot of writing for it. Seems like a can’t miss to me. Day 1.

I wonder if the horse tech can compete with red dead and the last of us. Looks like more souls goodness. Hopefully very immersive with no fast travel at the start.
Maybe like Gothic where you are corralled and diverted by tough enemies only to return with a bigger sword to smack 'em.
Take your time From.

I love fromsoftware games, really excited for Elden Ring too, but gotta say that visually Elden Ring doesn't look impressive. FromSoftware has great visual style and art but technically they need to step up their game. Hair rendering is just as bad as it was :messenger_downcast_sweat:

So many miserable people coming to this thread to tell us how salty they are about Elden Ring, a game they were never going to play because there isn't an easy mode. So weird. 🤔
No different then the miserable people that can't stand different opinions from their own. Opinions are so strange. How do they work?

Personally I'll reserve final judgment until the game releases...until then all I see is Dark Souls 4.

It looks like a duck. Quacks like a duck. Moves like a duck. And people want to say it's the sexiest swan they've ever seen. Whatever starts your bonfire.

Elden Ring won't need an easy mode. After you die to everything and know where everything is the game becomes much easier. Much like any Souls game ever.

Visually this is very unimpressive. I mean, yeah, it's cross-gen, but it looks bad even for a last gen open world game. But From has never really made technically impressive games I suppose.

I'm sure I'll end up getting it day 1.

Will get day 1 anyway.
I would say Bloodborne was quite the showcase at the time. I remember getting it on launch day and having that next-gen feeling when playing it. But I also think that came from Japan Studios technical support.

Honestly, ER does look like a PS3 Remaster - but I couldn’t care less.

Bloodborne wasn't bad (and it still looks better than DkS3), but it's waaaay behind the better looking games on PS4.

While that's true, it honestly should look better than this on PS5/XSX anyway. What will it look like on PS4 and XBO I wonder...

But it's not a downer in the slightest that it resembles a From Software game. That's a huge plus actually. Souls fans are relieved that From has maintained their get design ethics with this project.

Dark Souls 4? Day one 😁

It's interesting to see the recent trailer sparked a discussion about the value of art good direction.

After whatever Kojima is cooking, this is easily the game I’m looking forward to most.

i don’t mind them iterating on the Souls formula, if there are some key changes. The world design and horseback riding seem like significant tweaks.
No one makes a game world as alluring and cryptic as FromSoft, so I’m really just excited to get in there and bask in the atmosphere a bit.

Was anyone else reminded of Twilight Princess in certain parts of the trailer? The horseback combat brought me there.

Bloodborne released the same year as Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Phantom Pain, and Fallout 4. It wasn't impressive from any technical standpoint. Just good art direction.
