Xbox’s Phil Spencer criticises PlayStation’s PC strategy for being ‘late’ and ‘charging twice’

Someone ask Phil why they charge PC players when they release their games on Steam lol. What a clown this guy is. Everytime around E3 he has to open his mouth and say some dumb shit for fanboys to eat up. Why not keep his head down and concentrate on making games that will make people excited for Xbox again. They launched a next gen console with zero first party support and he’s talking all this shit.

I don’t think he realizes he’s complementing Sony with this statement. A lot of PC and PS5 gamers like myself value Sony’s games enough to double dip on some of them while MS is still trying to get people to give a fuck about most of their first party games not named HaloGearsForza. It doesn’t speak well for the quality of his output compared to the competition.

Dude should quit trying to be a “#gamer” and friend of the community and concentrate on delivering great games. I’m not interested in being friends with a corporate executive when they are all trying to rob us.

I hear this sentiment, along with "I'm not really enjoying gaming anymore" and "I'm not really playing games anymore" a lot in real life among people I know.
Every time it is an Xbox only owner. Every. Single. Time.
Wow. Are you really a Playstation owner for you to say this?

Sorry son, but I ain't no your xbox fan, or what ever shit you want to spread.

New games are shit. They focus too much on graphic part.

Old games had much challenges. I used to play splinter cell. And I loved the ability to look for health stations, and have my health not increase by itself. Every decision I make, was crucial. The ammo, where I save.

Now days, you are full health easily. You wait few seconds, and your health is full. You dont need to rely strategy or anything. Ammo isn't scarce, or you look for it. They drop it is easily. You have mini map, telling you were to go.

Its all action hero flick. Nothing as entertaining as old time. Man, I miss those days.

So just like Sony's policy with Steam. Got it.
Tell Sony to make their store first, or have them port their games to pc. So we far have, we only have few.

I would be more than happy to play those games, if I can get them there.

At least, I gotta give xbox for doing day1 with their games with steam.

Oh? Is that the reason? They don't own Steam....So why should Sony give the game away free on PC then?
????

I am the loop out of here. Just sleepy little bit. Did he said Sony should put their games free on steam.

All this crap. And I was thinking of Sony putting their games on pc, like day 1, and not about giving their games for free. Fk me if that is right

Let me do this for phill.

Hey Phill Spencer, you are an idiot for that.

They got you with their nonsense logic, fam. This has nothing to do with Steam.

They don't own steam. And the fact they even give you their games on pc for free, if you buy it from Xbox is crazy to begin with.

If they owned steam, they would have done it to encourage their console. Like buy on xbox and get steam one free.

they dont give their games "on PC for free", they give their games on their store only

a steam game is a PC game too, you can have a MS game on PC(steam) and not have the Xbox version for free so what he said is not true, of course the reason is "its not their store" but it doesnt change the fact its not true

not the first time you get a PC(and Mac) version of a game for free when buying a game for a console

Giving away games vs making games at 70$ isn't the same.

I am grateful they made some games free. And they deserve the credit for it.

But that won't change the pricing issues. It might not be an issue, if you are from America. But beyond America, they pay too much shit, because of the price increase. What you consider 10$ increase, is too much on other areas. Look at how much they charge in Australia or canada.
You've shifted the goalposts......You stated MS gave you MLB and Outriders free(even though you pay a recurring sub) and what Sony have done for their users.
Most electronics are more in Canada and Australia. Why have phone prices skyrocketed? 3-4 years ago flagships were £700. Now they are £1000+. Most things are going up in price, it is what it is. I don't like the fact Sony put their prices up. I'll just wait if I don't want to pay top dollar.

I would riot if they do it.

I dont need no xbox or Sony to own it. Keep their filthy on their consoles. We pc peasant dont want their online charging shit on our pc platform.

This from us pc players.

Maybe papa Phil got tired of PC gamers acting all indifferent in these aquisition wars and he's like "let me open my war chest..."

What i said isn't goal posting.

If I am paying 3 games price for a service, and I am getting other games free of charge, then its free by definition. I paid the price of 3 games for it. Mlb, outriders for next gen is 70$ each or 60$ for current gen. They cost 120-140. 1 more game at 60, and that is enough to cover the cost of the game.

Games like outriders and mlb has their usage at first year. Then turn to garbage bin after that. Makes it worthless to own them.

Things go up, because of demand. IPHONE 12 is 1.2k, because consumers are happy to pay that much. As long as their is demand for it, there would be increase price.

Your prime example is Nintendo. Their games don't go to sales that. Yet people buy them. Mario kart 8 sold 35m, despite not going down that much, like sony. That game come out 2014, and its still cost 60$ to buy it. Because the demand is high, and people don't want to pay less for it or wait for sale.

I don't know if you are really so naive or what. Phil Spencer is the personification of the hypocrysy. If he was on the lead on sony would do even worst things of Jim Ryan, just look to the Bethesda aquisition. If he was to the other side in the same case, he would scream to to the abuse of the gamers rights, knowing him. Pretty convenient to be the nice guy just when the things are against his interest, isn't it?
Sony getting deathloop and ghost wire Tokyo as exclusives (timed) is far worse than MS getting Bethesda. And this is because with Bethesda acquisition lots more gamers will be getting all of the games day one (PC+Xbox+xCloud?) while timed exclusivity for PS, limits how many people will play.

In that loose context: I bought Subnautica Below Zero for my son on the XSX, and I ended up enjoying the game myself so I went looking to buy the PC version as I'm primarily a PC gamer. But then by chance I discovered that it's a Play Anywhere title, so I just downloaded it for free and seamlessly continued my Xbox save on my PC. I thought that was a cool customer experience. I have no idea, so I'm kinda curious, is that something you can also experience on the Playstation these days (I mean something similar to "play anywhere")?

We believe in Generation. Sony took a jap on that. But we kinda forget about it, Sony its Sony.

Both do the same shit. Like that time Sony did it, when xbox had drm online. But they implemented the trophy check, and no one batted an eye.

Bruh!!! What are you on?

MS made rise of the tomb raider timed exclusive at the last minute and kept lying saying it was forever exclusive to Xbox … that’s the sort of crap YOU should be pissed at!

You need to chill on that MS unicorn !

You want context? Because it’s easy to take things out of context!

the DRM thing was funny because it could impact the gaming industry. Trust me they could had done worse jabs and kept doing it but they haven’t.

Do you see people from Sony or Nintendo liking console war posts on Twitter or reposting fanboys crap?

No!

So yeah MS feeds high level of fanboyism because it’s good for their brand and gives them lots of free marketing.

I am just pissed at ff7r exclusivity, and ff16 which is like 2 years exclusive. And we haven't even seen street fighter 15 on xbox since it launched. Playstation don't even own those ip.

Microsoft owns them. Nothing can change that. Its the same as if Sony or Nintendo were to own them. You can cry about taking the ip, but that is business. Business owning other business, entitles them to own their business. Its business 101.
Timed exclusivity on other hand is garbage. Microsoft or Sony. They don't own the ip. The only time its ok, is if they publish it. Otherwise, its garbage. We getting in to the 2 year exclusive timed now days.

You are trolling hard there. And again it's always MS vs sony with some of you. Never said temporal exclusive is a better thing but in proportion it's definitely better than buy any studios on the earth and destroy his indipendency.

Thank you, but I am not. Ain't spending 700$ for shit games, that i won't have interest in.

I bought resident evil 2 remake, monster hunter, red dead 2. Haven't played them since I got them. It was waste of my money honestly. If weren't for the hype, I wouldn't have bought them.

With GP, I dont care about them. Test the game. If I don't like it, delete them. I won't have any regret of buying them.

My money is more important to me, than to support something that I don't like. And hype is just dangerous thing that makes you buy impulsive. I still have my Playstation exclusive, ps+ games and psnow which I didn't touch that much, aside of spiderman and God of war. Money goes draining.

The root of the problem is who started all this trend because it didn’t had exclusives. We also end up with online behind a paywall in all consoles…

All great things happening on the gaming industry ;)

But as you said it’s just business ;)

Hm, that's a bit of a shame really. You know, this is the thing that puzzles me, why is MS able to do maneuver so well in the "Play Anywhere" area but not Sony. In my mind it would make more sense that it was Sony, in various contexts often referred to as "the industry leader", that was in the forefront of pushing customer friendly features.

He isn't wrong but Sony keep making enough great games that people want so they can get away with being fairly anti consumer.

The infamous "We believe in generations" interview was exactly the same kind of jab into the competition. The question is whether Spencer will make the same 180 degree narrative spin from what he just said a month later.

We get it Phil when Sony dropping bombs like ratchet you need to say something to stay relevant. Those used cars ain't gonna sell themselves.

The clown should pressure Sony by giving their games for free on Steam then

Put up or shut up
You are right, he should have Xbox games available on whatever system you purchase them for, and cross buy... either PC, Xbox One, or XBX... oh wait he already does. Your focus on steam is just trying to compare apples and oranges. You want the game on PC, you can get it on PC and it is cross buy in nearly every case. Has been for years. Nothing is stopping Sony from allowing game downloads via their PC PSN app.

If you want to give him shit, then I'd at least pick something like Halo MCC and charging for that, though that has been the exception rather than the rule.

Yep. People really do have a very selective memory. And all the threads where team blue here laughed at team green because of cross-gen are locked or deleted :messenger_beaming:

Oh really? Then why those games aren't free, at all, but fully priced instead? And no, they're not gonna convince anyone from PC crowd to get a PS5, for multiple reasons that have already been posted to death in the recent past, and that's exactly why they slowly but surely start to port the games on PC, to get that extra income from the audience they cannot reach, that's why Ryan an Hulst are bringing the exclusives to PC, a bunch of fanboys on the internet might be mad about it, but those two see how much profit it brings in return, at that's what ultimately matters. Sony is once again LTTP, just like after an entire PS3 generation they realized you can charge people for playing online, now they all of a sudden realized there is a huge PC userbase that can feed their wallets. Which is actually a smart move to let the others test the waters and see what works and what fails hard.
What? I don't think we're understanding each other (I'm certainly not).

Why would MS give away games for free, sure they want to motivate people to buy PC's over Macs, but they are still interested in seeing a profit per game sold. You're not going to give away free books just cause you also sell reading lessons. If it wasn't clear, what I'm saying is that MS has a vested interest in the success of PC as a platform, not just for gaming, but as a tool, as a workstation, ect ect, if a potential customer is deciding on Mac vs PC, the fact that he can play games (more easily) on a PC might be enough to sway him over to PC, in which case he's much more likely to purchase other Microsoft products (Windows, Office, OneDrive, ect ect). Sony doesn't have the same advantage and therefore motivation to support the PC as a platform, so their tactic of getting as many people as possible to buy PS5s and then coming back later for a double-dip into the PC market after the initial hype has died down makes perfect sense, and before you say that Sony isn't getting PC gamers to buy Playstations anyway, this is just not true...I know fucking tons of people (on this forum and IRL) that are primarily PC gamers but have PS4/5 and/or Switches as secondary devices for exclusives and the odd game that is more appropriate to play on console (I for example prefer racing games, fighters, and third person adventure games/platformers on console, while what I play the most is on PC (strategy, FPS, Moba).

I never said it wasn't a smart move of Sony to launch their games on PC, I fucking love that they do that, I'm just saying it's also a smart move to wait a few years before doing so, to not cannibalize their own sales.

They both have their moments, but one of the ones that really stuck out to me was, exclusives are evil and anti-consumer and Sony should be ashamed of doing that. Yet, Microsoft purchased Bethesda for their exclusives to be on XBOX and Gamepass.

You can play Xbox exclusives anywhere.
You could even play, Xbox exclusives on Playstation if Sony would allow Game Pass on their Platform. But they don't, so it's Sony's fault.

The two stances are not even comparable.
