Hell no. I skipped really playing the last Forza Horizon, so I’m ready for a next gen open world racer.

Your point doesn't match the clear thread title. Why are you trying to make this a debate?
Here let me help match your thread title then.

No they should not take a break this gen, Halo is just coming off a long break from the second half of last gen. If they continue to release at the same pace as on Xb1 we won’t see another mainline fps Halo for 5 years anyway.

Same with Forza Motorsport.

Better?

Microsoft has platform/GaaS/franchise studios which makes sense given their business model. I have no qualms with it.

That being said, I would love for 343i and The Coalition to get the Playground treatment and be able to have a team working on either new IP or new gameplay experiences. Like how Insomniac has the R&C studio while being able to work on other stuff previously, and now a Spider-Man studio for the time being.

343i should look to make new Halo experiences like they did with Halo Wars+CA/Ensemble or maybe a more Dead Spacey Flood game.

The Coalition could make any new IP and I'm sure it'd be tight, but I welcome new experiences like Gears Tactics, too under the franchise.

In happy to see Playground branch off from Horizon and into Fable even if it's just a reboot. I don't think any existing franchises need a break, but I want to see growth at the studios for secondary teams making new stuff outside their tent pole games.

Should Sony take a break from Ratchet, Spider-Man, Horizon, God of War, Last of us or Uncharted?

Hell no I say. Keep making games that people want. Halo is a franchise that should never go anywhere. I can't get enough of that story universe and the Master Chief, and all the extended fiction and mystery surrounding the forerunners.

I'm willing to play Halo games into my damn 60s, 70s and 80s. Gears I don't have that strong a connection to really. Forza are amazing games. Why stop making them?

Personally, yes, as I don't care about those three franchises.

Realistically, no. That would be stupid, as those are the biggest games associated with Xbox.

Personally, I'd rather they focus on stuff like Ori, Lost Odyssey or Tunic. That stuff is more niche though unfortunately (for people like me).

Mr. Community
Halo and Gears are overplayed as fuck.

Forza however? They need to put 343 and whoever makes Gears into pumping more of these. Forza: The Ring? Yes please. Forza: War Planet edition? I'm reserving the fuck out of that one.

Hmmm 🤔 on one side, I assume the fans would want new things, on the other side those 3 IPs are heavy associated to Xbox.
the problem is, their new IPs didn’t got as much popularity as those 3 IPs…

So… we are in a dilemma.

Forza Motorsport is going for one gaas game without frequent installments, halo infinite is going free to play for multiplayer so obviously gaas. So they're obviously not going to release new games in those two series for a while.
In addition to this, Microsoft bought so many studios and is investing so much more money in them so they can diversify their lineup.

Are you sure you follow xbox and their studios enough to make such questions? If you did, you wouldn't have to ask such questions.
You mean those games that in some cases won't release until 4 or 5 years in?

Ok fine 6 releases not 7. Still a big amount 4 major titles after infinite, 1 remake, and 1 upgraded mobile game
again, where are you getting these numbers?

main title released:
-halo 5
-halo Infinite

remasters:
-halo MCC
-halo wars DE (which shouldn’t even count because it’s not a standalone, just a bonus game for the LE of HW2)

spin-offs:
-halo wars 2
-halo Spartan assault
-halo Spartan strike

and of all of these, as mentioned before, the last title to release halo wars 2 back in 2017 and halo 5 released back in 2015 and that was the last major release. Halo infinite would actually suggest that a major release is overdue.

as for the semantics regarding whether or not this is milking let’s ask Nintendo. How many Mario games did the switch get alone?

there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t have both. Building up on other IP’s doesn’t mean they have to take away from what currently works. The moment they drop halo is the moment I drop Xbox altogether.

How the heck was my post deleted as “bait” when I made a proper comparison. The same reason Sony is on ratchet #16 GOW #? Is the same reason MS should not stop with what works for them. Wth?

Yup.

I feel Forza being a static IP makes sense to continue, Halo and Gears needs to really just rest and allow those teams to move on to different IP. Shit, if its not working out, let the team move the fuck on to new concepts and return if something actually makes sense for a sequel. MS stated they want to give those teams creative freedom, let them be free to move on if it isn't working out. I think those IP needed a break a long time ago and maybe didn't make sense to keep going.

After Halo Infinite and Forza 8 obviously since those are coming soon and are already in development.

Halo, Gears, and Forza Motorsport were the top franchises in the industry at one point. They started the Xbox, and they were the backbone of the 360. They were among the top rated game series critically for years and are still well reviewed now.

Even on Xbox One where they had weakened substantially, they were the franchises that got the console out of slumps and stopped everything from falling apart.

But this is why I created this thread, it's not just the decline and changing developers that are a problem, but I believe a lot of new Xbox series fail because of these franchises, and they take away resources from these new projects. I think Microsoft put too much reliance on them and it's caused them to have too much sway on first party game sales.

Let's look at the Xbox Ones AAA first party releases, outside Killer Instinct which barely counts, and Sea of thieves what other AAA release succeeded outside of H/G/F? Nothing.

It's not just commercial success either, but also critical success. Here are Xbox One first party AAA releases on metacritic

Forza Horizon 4 - 92%
Forza Horizon 3 - 91%
Forza Motorsport 6 - 87%
Forza Horizon 2 - 86%
Forza Motorsport 7 - 86%
Halo Master Chief Collection - 85%
Gears 5 - 84%
Gears of War 4 - 84%
Halo 5: Guardians - 84%
Halo Wars 2 - 79%
Quantum Break - 77%
Sea of Thieves - 69%
Crackdown 3 - 60%

The scores are declining but the H/G/F games still score higher than other AAA Microsoft games, so they still give those entries priority leading to less resources available for games like Sea if thieves, little help for Remedy on Quantum break, and heavy outsourcing for Crackdown 3.

Do you think it's time for a break? Let Forza 8 and Halo Infinite be the last entries for the next 5 years? I feel that will help Microsoft do better with new AAA ip this generation.
No, they have plenty of studios to focus on other IP.

Halo 5 was the only new Halo game of the Xbox One generation

Naughty Dog released more new Uncharted games than 343i released new Halo games last gen...
we are also only at Halo 5 right now, after 20 years of the franchise existing. so it's not like they are releasing them one after the other, there's usually a bit of downtime inbetween.

Gears 6 will most likely not release that soon, not only because they are just starting to switch from UE4 to UE5, but also because The Coalition is working on a new IP besides Gears 6.

Forza Motorsport will most likely only release a single game this gen, which will be used as a basis for the whole generation and which will be updated with new content instead of releasing a new installment after it.

and Forza Horizon is getting better and better reviews as time goes on... so keep em coming

Doesn’t the comparison how 343i releasing less games, make it seem like the studio is not working well?

I dunno that’s the impression I get!

You misquoted me. I didn’t say that. It was M MvCSpiderman that wrote out the quote you attributed to me.

I said
Only math I can figure is Halo Wars 1 (remaster) and 2, Halo 5 and Infinite.

He also doesn’t take into account we only had 1 mainline Halo FPS this gen and then spin-offs in different genres and a remake of the old games.

They are just lumped together as Halo even though it spans different genres and stories.

well given that I found Halo 5 to be more than lackluster... yeah... which is why I think Microsoft should give the IP to a new studio or drastically restructure 343i

Halo Infinite is the first mainline Halo game for years and has a new engine.
Forza 8 will be the first game in years and has a new engine, Horizon doesn't count as it's a totally different gameplay experience.
Coalition have already said it will be years before the next Gears and it will then be on a new engine with Unreal 5.

So everything is fine , they should just stick to the schedule.

No way!!! Lots of those games released early in the console lifecycle when the gaming press had Microsofts number. That's why their Metacritic ratings were that low. Game reviewers are hacks.

Maybe a standalone F2P Gears game would be great.

It doesn’t make any kind of sense to stop making them. They sell and get the scores. Do they have the confidence to make something else?

Halo Infinite is the only Halo game after Halo 5 for Xbox One / Series which is not a strategic game or part of the MCC
Gears 6 is still far away from a release.
Forza Motorsport (not Horizon) was released 2017...
First party car racing games are one of best ways to show the visual capabilities of the consoles.
I am even sad that they didnt release a Forza as a Xbox Series title (even a demo would have been fine)

Definitley no.
Thwy should continiue with the franchises.

Definitely, if they have no genuine "inspiration" from a studio on a product the product should not happen, or at the very least give them a chance to do something else. For all they know the next project may be even more succesful.

These games got Xbox through the last 2 generations. Would be wrong to rob the gamers of these imho when they've been THE reason to buy an Xbox. MS shouldn't do these franchises dirty as the fans want more.

What they need to do is to release more AAA games and more frequently, doesn't matter if some of them are from these IPs. I mean, just look at the difference between Halo Infinite and their previous AAA console game. Or between Halo and the next AAA they will release, we don't even know which year are they going to release them (I assume at least a couple will drop H2 2022).

They said they plan to release a game every 3 months, which (unless some are PC only or small 2nd party games like Battletoads) sounds great and another step on the right direction. They bought several great IPs, and now they have to make new games using them and also have to create new IPs.

It's ok for them to continue with Halo, Forza and Gears, but they needed to don't focus only on them and instead to keep trying it with other big IPs, that I think we'll start seeing them starting next year. Regarding Halo, Forza and Gears, I think that in addition to some big Zenimax IPs will turn into GaaS to match them with Game Pass, so they will have seasons, season passes, microtransactions and so on, which means the games will last for longer so we'll see maybe only one main game of these every generation or so.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I want some of what OP is smoking.

Must be some really good shit.

I don't count anything on mobile and Halo Wars is a completely different genre that only shares the Halo universe theme. The Master Chief Collection is one of the greatest Halo treasures of all time. Outside of that we have had Halo 5

since 2015.... Obama was still the president. It's been that long. When you have Nintendo spinning off Mario games left and right and games like Call of Duty every single year I don't think there is any reason for Microsoft to do away with 3 of their most popular franchises. I'd like to complain about the poll again! 🤣
