For me personally it looks way too much like Dark Souls in terms of art direction, was hoping for something more refreshing, bloodborne and sekiro were such a nice change so i'm a little disappointed. I'm not going to comment on the visuals in general because it's from software...i didn't expect much.

Still i'm glad it's happening. From Softs gameplay is unmatched so it's a day one purchase.

But it is not a new souls game. Your way of reasoning is shit. I bet you are one of those who buys the yearly CoD or ubisoft crap and come out as hypocrite with these so called souls fatigue.

Nope not me at all actually, but nice try I guess

I've said it before and I'll say it again, FROM's reputation as a great storyteller is vastly overblown. That said this does look interesting and Dark Souls in an open world is the natural progression of their talents.

. . .I also liked the look of Dark Souls 3 and SEKIRO so the game engine looks fine to me.
Yeah I have to agree with you about storytelling. I think the peak was probably Bloodborne due to a more constrained thematic approach. The game world felt more cohesive so you could more easily come to some story conclusions, but even there a lot of the heavy lifting was done by the community. Everything else besides Sekiro is just vague. Which is fine to create sense of mystery and discovery but that doesn't necessarily mean fantastic storytelling. I am a bit over it because I've gotten used to only understanding part of the game and resorting to lore videos to filling the blanks. I expect I will have to do the same here.

Graphically this looks similar to DS3 which is fine with me. Achieving that with a more open world is good enough considering they want to hit last gen consoles. Gameplay looks like it will be fun like usual. In the end, I expect this to be greater than the sum of its parts just like their other games. For me, what they do best is rewarding exploration, which should be even better with an open world. You never know if a random small cave you run across might have your next favorite weapon in it. You said it perfectly, this is a natural progression of what they do best.

I don't play much of the souls games since I'm terrible at them, but I love the graphic and art in them and this one looks to be great as expected.

that's some serious World Spiral Tree vibe from Berserk right there. and the 2 monsters pulling the wagon thing definitely looks like the wagon from the Binding Chain arc. I feel Miura's passing probably hit them (devs who worked on the souls games) pretty hard too.

I don't get the hype from those Souls games at all. Graphics looks mediocre (Halo Infinite was criticized massively but it looked way better than this) and my friends wouldn't be able to differentiate between these games.

the gameplay, like zelda games make people think they're intelligent, souls games make people think they're skilled. Because you actually need some level of skill to play the right way.

I actually tried Bloodborne and tbh, I sucked. But it was more due to being incredibly boring for me. It's was always like evade, attack, evade, attack, evade... with good timing required. And it bored me so much that I'm just too impatient for that stuff. Don't know, maybe I would've liked that 15 years ago.

Once it gets too frustrating I stop playing, I don't have time for that shit. But in design they're fantastic games.

I'm very confused by posts like this, why do you think you do in shooters like Doom most of the time? point and shoot.

So it's just another game like Dark Souls? I was hoping for something more like Dragon's Dogma. You know? With towns and such. Less interested.

That's true but to me, shooters can feel very different depending on movements, weapons, speed, etc.
I don't want to offend anyone, I just tried Bloodborne so far and when I look at videos, they all look mechanically the same just with different skins. I do wanna be hyped by those games as well but I just can't 😅

If a games developer consistently, without fail, over and over again, produces high quality video games with compelling lore and a fantastic gameplay loop… why would you want anything different?
Sekiro was a fresh of breath air, but all of FROM's games look exactly the same.

This looks like a Dark Souls expansion pack.

That can be said about difference between Dark Souls and Bloodborne. In Dark Souls you have shield to play more defensively but in Bloodborne you have none, so rely on dodging. Also In Bloodborne almost every weapon have secondary form, and Sekiro has entirely different combat system than alll FROM pervious games.....so I’m not what exactly you are talking about.

Just tired of these already. Same ol shit but with new art and some new character models. It also looks dated and might as well be called Dark Souls 4.

This being a Bandai Namco series, I'm a little surprised there isn't like a "Naruto Souls" or something like that. Some bright anime soulslike.

(Code Vein & Scarlet Nexus are both typical stylish hack-and-slashes, not soulslikes, right? Never played either.)

If serious I'm starting to worry about this cross-gen shit.

Heh, how's it PS4/Xbox One's fault that it looks like a dressed-up PS3 game?

...That's a little unfair, but it is funny how they dressed up the old engine as much they could in fur and hair and grass (albeit sometimes some pretty danged good fur and hair IMO.) The Souls engine struggled to make the jump in the previous next-gen (remember the original trailer bits of DS3?) and always had some things desperately in need of being rebuilt. (Bloodbourne covered up a lot of those deficiencies with effects, much like Elden Ring is doing, but Elden Ring is also out in the daylight sometimes and it is no daywalker, Souls cannot survive in the light.) Too bad they can't just call Bluepoint to come over and staple DS PS5 engine on top of the Elden Ring engine...

Overall it looks fine IMO, not "next-gen" if you're picky but pretty in style at least. Sit a ways back from the TV though...

FROM games have their own style so yes you can tell it’s FROM game, just like most developers distinct style, this can be said most Kojima games.

It looks like a souls game.

Which is good and bad. I like the worlds of the souls games but at this point, is the well not slightly dry? So you're a tarnished/hollowed/kindled character, alone in the haunted ruins of a grandiose kingdom...

It's a bit samey, I would really have hoped that a new IP would give from software a chance to play with a new narrative or aesthetic

As I mentioned in the other thread. The game looks cool but man those graphics are rough when compared to Horizon Forbidden West and other next gen titles. The lighting, textures and even hair physics are pretty last gen. If you told me this was a ps4 exclusive I would believe you.

The graphic quality looks just like DS3 with open world. I did not expect much more from FROM, their power is artstyle and here I hava a little problem.

I really expected a bigger departure in terms of artstyle from Souls games. Especially after Sekiro I thought they would give us some cool twist about Nordic themes but as for now it looks very similar to DS3 artstyle. Those armors and weapons looked straight out of DS3.

You dont play FROM games for high tech graphics, and I'm faaaaaaaaaar more excite for Elden Ring than I'm ever for Horizon which to me nothing more than 3rd person FarCry game.

Love the DA, love DS formula, the art is amazing and the amosphere so great. I'm sure there's some surprise and unexpected feature as this seem more like open world (as in Shadow of the Colossus maybe) than ever. Exploration is a great part of any DS game.

To be fair, Bloodborne has the most limiting gameplay, as far as variety in my opinion. I’ve said it before, but From Software has steadily been moving to more action based gameplay. It’s why I like the earlier entries better. In Dark Souls, dodging is an option, but you also have a shield, ranged weapons, spells, projectiles, and a huge variety of all of them.

Bloodborne uses a transforming mechanic for its weapons, but there’s only a handful of them, and the regain mechanic encourages the player to be aggressive and continue attacking, where Dark souls encourages you to take your environment into consideration, plan your attack, and learn your opponents patterns to find opportunities to attack.

It might be that the souls games are not for you, but if variety is the issue, Bloodborne might not be the best place to start.

lastly the setting is important. I like my castles, dungeons, knights and stuff. On topic, Elden Ring looks darker, more horrific than I was hoping for. They have such a hardon for a decaying world, everything looks like it’s dying, and I’m kind of bummed out about that.

I expecting Horizon because I played the first one on PS4, but Elden Ring is by far my most antecipated game, more than any other even beating GoW.
And of all critics HZD have, you're right about those 3rd person AC/Farcry clones.
