Yes, I think my next PC will be the last as I do not want to have desktop anymore. Ever since I started using Mac some 6yrs ago I wanted to get rid of windows altogether TBH. PC will always have superior hardware but as you said consoles have come a long way. I think it is better to buy a new console rather than upgrading cpu, gpu, mobo every 4-5yrs.

If they allow Windows to run on the X it can certainly replace a PC, no problem. They are going in the right direction with adding full fledged chrome based browser to it tho.. you can do quite of bit with it besides gaming.

Otherwise there is no contest, a Windows based PC is far superior overall, and also way more expensive if you want to match the xbox in terms of performance, especially in the current market conditions. You can't even buy a 5700xt for less than $800

I'll always spend 90% of my gaming time on PC...
but there is no switching, I'm going to at some point own every platform.

I'll always have a high-end or high enough gaming PC that I wouldn't play on, but ready if there is something really impressive and not offered in PS ecosystem. So far haven't played any game on my PC, can't see that changing in the near future.
lol there is some truth to that. I thought I will play more on pc after getting 3080 (on release) but not really.
This is list of games I've played so far this year. Not really a lot and none using it's power so far.
Astrobot Playroom ps5
Demons Souls ps5
The Evil Within 2 pc
Ratchet and Clank 2016 ps5
Syberia pc
Syberia 2 pc
Return of the Obra Dinn pc
Resident Evil Village pc (ps5 would offer the same experience)
Uncharted 4 ps5

Nope, made the switch once in the past with same reasoning of hardware being cheaper, plug'n'play, etc. Ain't doing it again.

In fact, when i think of it, a lot of the games i'm planning to play in the short-term future aren't even available on a PS5 or XSX.
What were your primary issues with console gaming?

I switched from Switch and PC to Switch and Xbox. I get that PC is potentially more powerful, but I don't care. It's tiresome and a chore to use.

I use to have a pretty beefy pc build a few years ago. After I took a career in IT I couldn't go home and sit behind a desk and pc anymore. So I parted out my build and jumped into consoles. I game for about an hour or so a few nights a week. PC gaming definitely has its perks, and there are a ton of them, but console gaming is just easier for me.

I was a mix of PS4 Pro and HTPC (GTX1080) gaming on a living room 1080p TV screen for a long while. Considered lots of options with the new consoles, GPUs and 4K TVs coming out. Ended up needing to put my HTPC in the den for some concentrated office work for a few months last November, so snagged a XSX and a Sony 4K 120hz TV for the living room and gaming primarily on that now.

You get the x900h?

This gen has honestly been great for me as an all platforms gamer. Sony did a great job with the ps5, and has tons of good exclusives that are worth the (cheap) price of entry. Nintendo made Switch a completely different thing, and with its usually uniqueness and exclusives, and MS made all Xbox games on PC, so I don’t have to buy an Xbox. It’s great.

I doubt that I would ever switch to consoles as a primary platform. Just too constrained. The 2 games I've been playing lately are Hades and Skate 3 through RPCS3. My son has been playing Hitman 3 and M&B Banner Lord 2 with tons of mods. I value the flexibility and PC is the obvious choice for me.

So many PC gamers said they wanted 1080/60. You get 1440/60 on console now. Unless you want PC exclusives there’s no reason to go PC.

I do want PC "exclusives"? But more than because I care about "exclusivity" it's because I do play and like PC-centric games more than anything else.

I'll take a Battle Brothers, Space Rangers 2 or Mount & Blade Bannerlord over Uncharted every fucking day without even pausing to think.
The games I like to play are stuff like Solasta, Baldur's Gate, Pathfinder, XCOM 2 War of the Chosen.
Console ports and multiplatforms are just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. Like emulation.

And I consider 60 fps the ENTRY LEVEL, not the ultimate goal.

Last gen I was almost all ps4, better games and pc wasn't getting much exclusives. I kept it for turn based strategy and old games basically.
Before that both. I hadn't upgraded my pc since the end of the ps3 era. I was sporting basically the launch equivalent of my ps4 a 3.2ghz i3 sandy bridge with amd 7870 raedeon and 8gb ddr3.

As for PS5, With the console not being sold to people like me, they can f off. The lack of hardware availability and the censorship and push for uglifying characters has me turned off greatly.

I went back to pc, as I was smart enough to build a new one after I couldn't get a ps5 last fall. Now sporting a Ryzen 5 3600, Geforce 2060rtx and 16gb ddr4, m2 ssd, sata ssd and 4tb hdd.
I invested in Quest 2 VR headset, Logitech mechanical keyboard and mouse, sn30+ controllers, map mouse pad, 5 case fans, gaming headset. Just waiting for evga step up to 3060ti, for future proofing, but otherwise i can play everything at 1080p w rtx on maxed.

Sony can get my money again when they want to sell me one msrp without having to battle assholes on websites to get one. Until then no dice (after all i do want to play demon souls remake, I loved that game I own import copy and atlus deluxe original)

Now switch on the other hand, that device like the pc gets so much of my time and money. I loved portables (DS, 3ds, PSP, Vita) and the switch is like having a ps3 portable. With tons of ports, its amazing!!!!!!!!
I can't say enough about how much i love my switch.

PC and switch basically best combo right now. Anything on xbox will be on pc , switch has its exclusives and is better place for indies and roguelites (love those games) and it just rocks being able to game on the toilet, on the back porch, sitting in bed, etc..... I really am concerned though when nintendo makes there next system. It better have backwards compatiblity with switch titles as I fear once the battery dies the system will be fd.

Ever since I got a ps5 at launch I NEVER game on pc anymore. Not against it competely, it has the best backward compatability, afterall. Things that made me switch:

1- The ssd is a game changer, everything works fast and seemlessly
2- Things will always just work, no tinkering needed, controllers stay connected etc. (real pc gamers no all about this)
3- PS5 is state of the art - Run and look better than MY gaming pc
4- Better ui, neither steam nor epic games can compete here
5- Dualsense is the most premium lovely controller I ever used, thats coming from being a mouse and keyboard guy and dualshock 4(mayflash dongle)

The main thing I miss on pc but dont even bother with anymore is the backlog of games - Emulation, Simpsons hit and run, outrun 2006, Crazy Taxi, etc... games that will never come out on PS5. Xbox seems amazing with its backwards compatability as well, maybe I will get 1 in the future.

I forgot to mention I have a switch with a ginormous library, going back to the switch feels so clunky and slow. Convenience is super important for me, SSD is needed, and controllers that work. Hopefully Switch 2.0 fixes all that...

I tend to play games in a very mixed manner with wild variety. Like going from really old games to newer ones to indie titles to some freeware, etc. Consoles don't always have that kind of versatility to their library, and their closed nature can bring some really annoying issues.

-For example, when i started Halo 3 back in 2008-2009 i had no way to play previous titles, so i was left in the dust in regard to story until a couple of years later when they released Halo Anniversary.
-When i got into MGS, i couldn't play MGS1 since it wasn't available, and ironically had to rely on a PC for it.
-There was a game that had a really annoying issue that never got patched (i think it was TDU2), i tried everything to fix it but never could. Only managed to play the game without the bug years later when i got the PC version and there was a fan patch for it.
-When i tried playing Far Cry 2, game had some really really bad performance issues, it was pretty much unplayable. Ended up playing only years later on PC.

Also, even though they were supposed to be hassle-free machines, they still gave me headaches like RRoD or defective Blu-Ray reader, though admittedly you could attribute that to problems of that specific generation.

I still notice problems like those with the modern consoles. Like for example, i could never play fan games/mods that interested me like Enderal (Skyrim mod), or Daggerfall Unity, or Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition (gameplay overhaul) with either a ps4 or a ps5 or a XSX. I'd never have been able to play original Deus Ex or Human Revolution. I would never be able to play Fallout New Vegas or FEAR or S.T.A.L.K.E.R or RaGE or Atelier Ayesha, all in my to-play or playing list. I'd have to give up in some interesting discoveries like Noita, My Summer Car, Teardown, Distance, etc.

----

Honestly, if i can give any advice for people trying to get into pc gaming, ignore this the mentality that you need need the absolute best hardware and that you have to play everything at maximum quality. Just get a middle range or middle-high range PC, forget about the memes of 4k/120fps/extreme settings, and you'll be happy. Even a combo of middle range + new gen consoles works too (+ optional Switch).

Patiences is a virtue. And apparently a sparse one these day.
I've played the Uncharted trilogy and the original TLOU enough times to know that I don't like what Sony is selling.
And nothing they've releases since has convinced me of the contrary.
Yep all Sony games are exactly the same lol.. You just mentioned two franchise games from the same developer. There are so many in that previous list not from ND.. Sorry mate, just admit you are a Sony hater because you are not providing any proper reasoning to support your comments.

If you had said you had tried all those games and not for you well that would probably be a lie but at least that would be an acceptable reason.

With the variety of games, to say I don't like what Sony is selling is evidence you just don't like PlayStation. And that's fine but don't act like it's their games. This is a you problem.

I tried PC gaming for a year or so. Incredibly overrated and a PITA. I am sticking to consoles for the foreseeable future.
It does take more time and effort to do it right. For most people that are happy with low effort mediocrity like you consoles are great.

Between gpu prices and a lack of good games (my opinion) I do think I will be playing more sparsely this year and next. And with the news of more games being cross-gen I don't see any reason to to upgrade from my ps4.

In a couple of years hopefully gpu prices come down and some of these delayed games start to release.

It's not that deep, bro.
Sony and its developers make the types of games I don't like. Everything I've seen from them has yet to dissuade me otherwise. So I don't play them.

Agreed. The value of Series S with Game Pass and included EA Play is unbeaten at the moment.

I like that there's a lot more faffing around to get things working on PC, I appreciate people with very busy lives wouldn't! For me PC vs console is like Capitalism vs Socialism, the freedom of the former also brings with it more personal responsibility, but some like that walled garden/controlled experience of the latter I guess!

I'm really struggling with this question right now as I've historically been a console gamer since the original NES, but have changed over and back again PC to console over the years. I currently have a beefy 11900K/3090 PC running while I also sit with a sealed XSX here next to me and a PS5 that should come next week. I have a Switch as well.

I'm trying hard to decide to stay the course with the PC + Switch or flip flop back to triple console. PC for fidelity and game retention/backlog are my main drivers, and I do enjoy building and tinkering to some degree. Console for simplicity, ease of access and use, and no waiting for the types of games I like. My PC is in my living room connected to my 85" Sony X900H and I play exclusively with a controller, so for me PC is just an uber-powered console.

It's my wife, me, and 2 younger kids, but they pretty much know how to operate, launch, and play games on the PC, but I still troubleshoot when something doesn't go right. I've had to jump through a lot of hoops too getting the PC situated just right in my living room vs. alternative setup options, but I think I have my path forward for making it fully viable now. Still, console just makes everything easy and far cheaper. Ugh.

I’d like to build a new PC but the state of the gpu market has forced my hand. I’ll stick with ps5 and series x for new games and my pc is still capable enough to run older games with my 1080. I’ve never been too inclined to build a new pc at the beginning of a new console generation anyways.

with ps5 and xsx you are covered on all new games. For classics and older stujff, your 1080 is a beast

I don’t really care what I game on, as long as I can use a controller. Patches and updates are easier on consoles now, except for switch not having an “update all” or “auto update” option in settings

I'll stick to PC and whatever hardware Nintendo releases.

After years of hearing nothing but nightmares about PCs and their issues I decided my interest in modding was greater than my fear of not being able to get a gaming PC figured out.

I learned really fast that a lot of people are completely full of shit. PCs are as easy to use as any console, even easier if you actually set everything up properly one time. Drivers and updates all self-install on shut-down every night. Patches for games are automatic too unless I say otherwise. Crashes are not even a consideration to me. The handful I've seen since 2016 were all due to me pushing things way too far or an actual hardware failure. Even assembling my own PC turned out to be a lot of fun, like a Lego set only the pieces can only fit together one way.

With more and more games being cross-platform with the PC I don't feel I'm missing anything between my PC and the Switch either. For games that take a year or two I'm fine with that as it means I can buy the game and it's DLC with all the bugs worked out for $20. In the meantime I'm already drowning in backlog as it is.

I have both but recently I’ve become couch potato and spend most time on PS5. Maybe I’ll get back to pc once cyberpunk dlc come out.
