Horizon Forbidden West "on track" for holiday release, but "that isn’t quite certain yet"

i find it absurd that factions wouldn't be ready for this year.. wtf are they doing? Sony is gonna rely on third party for this fall most likely. God of War for next summer, Horizon February.

I also would've thought Sony would have bundled it all and released it at once with the remake. If they do that, then we ain't seeing factions till late next year or early 2023.

Just an FYI, GG spent 6 months fixing the pc version of horizon zero dawn. That's six months of programmers fixing bugs and QA testing fixes for a game that came out 4 years ago instead of working on the game that's coming out this yesr.

If this game gets delayed, we can safely say that it was because they had to share resources with the PC version.

Probably works out better for them anyway. Why create even larger holiday demand that they won’t get close to satisfying.

You could see there was going to be large gaps in their first party output 2 years ago…Sony dropping out of e3 altogether after 4 years of showing the same titles was the first sign…the second sign was their wording around first party studios a year before the ps5 release about focusing on their first party content….most of their games have 3-4 year dev cycles and their big first party studios dropped games last year so it’s going to be at least another 2 years before we are going to see the next full naughty dog or sucker punch title and that’s not even factoring in the covid delays

I honestly see them spreading the titles they have announced over the next 2 years

That doesn’t make any sense considering all these games were for this year (but delayed because of COVID), and they have strong third party exclusives lined up for next year. Their output has been insane. If they actually get Horizon out this year (and possibly The Last of Us Factions) this will have been one of the greatest first years in a console’s history.

There hasn’t been any “gaps” and there isn’t any indication there will be. Forespoken in supposed to be Q1 2022 as well, it seems quite packed.

What's funny is wether this makes it this year or not, Sony might have another holiday without actual consoles to buy in stores.

What a time to be alive.

At this rate they should just give R&C 2021 GOTY in advance due to the lack of any sensible competition.

Sir, I think we are just getting started.

Shame, I really hope it makes it. I always thought GoW would be 2022 anyway. 3rd party holiday season will be strong enough to carry xbox and PlayStation through though. Just a shame that you're looking at least 18 months after release that the first notable IP gets dropped. And even then it's not in the same league as God of war in terms of relevance and prestige.

I do wonder if they had just held back with GoT and TLOU II a few months and co released the PS5 and PS4 versions whether the reactions would be different right now.

Don’t mind when it releases. I just hope they fix the issues the original had. I love that game but lots of room for improvement. Will be playing this on my PS4

No need to rush, in my case they can take as much time as they need to polish it.
I have a huge backlog, and this H2 is going to be really packed.

Are you kidding lmfao? What is Sony releasing this fall?
As I remember Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, Kena, Stray, Babylon's Fall, Little Devil Inside, Sifu, Horizon 2 and whatever they announce this E3-ish big summer event (TLOU2 Factions?). In addition to multis, some of them with marketing deal, like Far Cry 6, CoD, FIFA, GTAV PS5 etc.

If Horizon doesnt make it this year, Sony wouldve launched just 2 games this year. 1st party studios wouldve launched just one game.

And if they dont acquire Insomniac last year, their first party wouldve had zero games come out this year.

Just goes to show that there are some really gaping holes in their lineup and they better tighten this shit up quick.
As I remember this year they released Destruction All Stars, Returnal, now Ratchet and have Horizon. GoW and GT7 were also originally planned for 2021 but got delayed. And there are the PC ports of at least Days Gone and Uncharted 4.

On top of that they also have plenty of AAA exclusives this year like Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, FFVIIR Intergrade, Guilty Gear Strive, now seems that finally Babylon's Fall, etc. and many indies like Kena, Little Devil Inside, Sifu, Jett, Stray, etc.

And well, then there's big multi games with marketing deal like REVIII, Far Cry 6, CoD, FIFA, etc.

GoWR and GT7 got delayed to 2022, and let's hope Horizon 2 gets on time for Holidays, but they still going to have a great year. And there's their typical big summer event and the E3, where they or other publishers could announce something else more.

Moderated wildly
It will be spring 2022...or whenever breath of the wild 2 doesn’t launch and I don’t blame them. This game doesn’t need the endless comparisons again.

Nobody knows what’s in q1 2022 let alone the rest of it and of the games they announced in their last big event …many of them are just logos at the moment

the first year output has been great from a quality perspective (apart from the full price cross gen dlc miles) but the trickle of a couple games a year is not really going to cut it anymore …they really need to step up and start releasing more titles in a timely manner otherwise that interest is going to shift pretty quickly

I think sony want to wait and see if breath of the wild 2 will release this holiday season
If botw2 will be a 2022 game
Then sony will announce horizon release date comfortably
Coming in holiday 2021

I blame Microsoft, they did the "we got no games" thing first and then rest of the industry is following them.

Lol what? This has been their best first year ever in both quality and quantity. Once R&C and Horizon drop this years that's already 7 out of the 9 FP titles already out

MS has marketing rights to Far Cry 6. A bunch of timed exclusives (which aren’t even AAA), do these count now ?

It will be interesting to compare the first year of the XSX (with all the doom and gloom) with the ps5 at December 31 2021.

Hopefully delayed, Summer 2022.

Games getting bigger, more polish expected from customers.
All game devs should take their time, make things as impressive and polished as possible and release something really special.

No one will benefit from a rushed release.

Heads of the studio/ Sony give the deadline of March 2022 with realistic launch of May/June.

I don't get why the fuck people think God of War is close to release. God of War was revealed with gameplay in 2016 and was released two years later. We have a fuckin logo, that's all, nothing else. Why do you people think God of War is close to release? It isn't. It would be holiday 2022 at the earliest, more like a 2023 game.

We could be getting a full gameplay showcase in a month just like Horizon. If we get a gameplay reveal in June I can't see why they can't release in a year

It shows uncertainty which corresponds with what they are saying now. You don't show 20mins of a game and then say nothing about a release date if you're confident it's going to release at that time. That's just common sense.

Because they're not 100% confident yet. Doesn't mean it's still not possible. It's on track but there's still 6 months left of the year so shit can change. They've already pushed it back once.

You can't predict when they're actually going to announce the release date. Could be this month, could even just be a month before it actually comes out. That's the way they roll now.

Good thing they don't plan to release the game until it's fully finished and polished, unlike some Bethesda, Ubisoft or CDPR.

Timed Exclusives count as their first Party output?

Since they have been working on Horizon 2 since 2017, I'm guessing they will still launch this Holiday. That's 4 3\4 years dev cycle.

God of War never had a chance to launch this Year.

If not for Covid Horizon would be out already. Every game was affect far more than many on GAF like to admit. And we’re going to continue to feel the affects for quite a while

If not for Covid God of War would have been the main holiday game for this year. Since thats not going to happen, Horizon 2 as the main holiday game means Horizon 2 has already had an internal delay. Holiday 2021 should be possible.

It’s likely Horizon was meant to be in the spring, with GoW in the Holiday. But we know that Covid has effected games anywhere from 6-12 months or even more. Horizon has been knocked back, but another hit wouldn’t be surprising at all, thus Sony’s statement
