Recent UE5 demo needs 72GB total RAM to run at 30FPS while the first only used 768MB on PS5

An HDD did that? What a surprise. And we gamers have been told HDDs are obsolete and SSD are the future.

That demo clip looked slick to me.

struggling

At native 4k and averaging about 35fps.
I am quite surprised that its only using 5.5 to 6.5gb of vram.

And i'm sure there will be a lot of UE5 games that dont look as good as this demo. I just hope its not a sign of things to come though with UE5, needing another huge gpu bump to get 60fps.
It doesnt inspire confidence in UE5 console games running higher than 30fps this gen either.

Epic said they are targeting 1080p30 for games that use Lumen (their lighting) on next-gen consoles.

edit: To be clear, that's for their more advanced indoor / RT based solution:

Lumen's Global Illumination and Reflections primary shipping target is to support large, open worlds running at 60 frames per second (fps) on next-generation consoles. The engine's High scalability level contains settings for Lumen targeting 60 fps.
Lumen's secondary focus is on clean indoor lighting at 30 fps on next-generation consoles. The engine's Epic scalability level produces around 8 milliseconds (ms) on next-generation consoles for global illumination and reflections at 1080p internal resolution, relying on Temporal Super Resolution to output at quality approaching native 4k

I think it just means baked lighting isn't going away anytime soon.

How well do you think PS5 would run this demo at native 4k?, 10fps?.
The demo is 1080p on console for a reason.
People with 3090's won't be running a game with the same requirements @ 4K for a reason.
It was 1080p to show off UE5's new DLSR technique.

No real PC gamer would run a game with these requirements with that performance.
They would lower that resolution and fake resolution/DLSS(edit auto spell) the shit out of it.

Why wont you answer the question?. I mean you posted the video to troll, thinking it would be funny seeing the 3090 'struggle' at 35fps, so you must be thinking it would be similar, or even better on PS5 at 4k, otherwise you are laughing at yourself lol.

Thats right, you wont answer because you know it would be like 15fps at a push on PS5 at native 4k.

How come nobody is talking about how fast you can fly through the game world without a hitch? On the original PS5 demo, they flew very fast at the end of the video and the data streaming kept up no problem. Is this possible to do on pc to see what happens?

you can do it in the editor by forcing the camera to run through the world.. it's pretty fast, and no hitches.. but the editor is also always loading the entire level in memory
 
That FPS was all over the place with the 3090 they capped it @ 30 on the consoles.
I don't see how that changes anything, unless the game would have run at ~120fps uncapped on PS5. And if that were the case... why cap it at 30 in the first place?

And capped it at 1080p too, but they did that for 'reasons' of course.
Man you really are soemthing else lol. Completely swallowed up by the marketing schpeel.
Some of you are going to be in for a shock when UE5 games start dropping, i feel.

This demo doesn't offer quite the same traversal speed. But zipping around in the editor typically showed disk reads in the ~200MB/s range and the absolute highest peak I saw was ~400MB/s.

The total amount of reads playing the demo (including the transition between worlds) was about 16GB.

Pretty much what people predicted. PC needs to bruteforce the I/O problem with massive amounts of RAM. Where as consoles will utilize cleaver SSD decompression streaming.

Part of the demo was to showcase the new upscaling tech so it ran @1080p.
30fps is what most tech demo's run @.
Even if all of that were true... How does that lead you to conclude that a PS5 could match the performance of a 3090 rendering the demo at a native 4K?

The custom hardware of the PS5 shouldn't be compared to off the shelf components of a PC.

Ok i just watched it. 20gb is still quite large for most games. I wonder where the 64gig number is coming from then? Maybe the fidelity of the assets arent running at full spec or something?

The individual demo doesn't use anywhere close to 20GB of sysRAM. Most people are running it from within the editor (which takes up far more space) but the compiled demo itself only consumes about 5-6GB of sysRAM plus whatever goes into VRAM.
