Can't wait for the MILF!
choose Bo, the Returnal one, or this one.

You can't have both in your tent.

This game might be the sole reason I own a PS5.
Likewise, but Demon Souls calls out to me. Horizon Forbidden West and Demons, maybe Returnal plus God of War Ragnarok, Final Fantasy XVI would be enough. Then Kena, and possibly Hogwarts Legacy if Epic Store gets their hands on it on for PC. Who knows, maybe by the time HFW, GoWR and FFXVI all release the shortages won't be as bad and I'll be able to get a PS5 bundle. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Starting at 9AM Pacific Time / 5PM BST / 6PM CEST, please tune in at your leisure for a uniquely crafted countdown towards the main State of Play event, which starts at 2PM Pacific Time / 10PM BST / 11PM CEST.

They aren’t doing E3 at all this year again because they don’t want to share the news cycle with the other brands.

That is why they are releasing news before E3
Yea I know they aren't doing E3, but they might still have their own showing that's larger in scope than a State of Play during this period.

I think they're gonna drop some bombs. The calm before the storm as they say. Drizzle a lil Horizon, then KA-KOOOOOOOOOOOOOM Dropping all sorts of shit, probably right after Xbox does their thing. That's pretty much been their MO for years.

Gotta feeling June is gonna be awesome for everybody really.

I do not get this move. The date that they chose to show this off is so odd.

Is it possible that Playstation has such a jam packed event around or after E3 that they choose to show this off first? Playstation must know that people expect big drops around E3, regardless of Playstation participating in E3 or not.

If that's not the case, Playstation would for real shoot itself in the foot by not withholding this till around or after E3.

has been asked to post in 'Grounded' mode.
That’s because the flight speed is the same as the ground speed which is why it holds up. I think they had said they couldn’t fly as fast as they wanted or something like that.
Yeah I think the issue was that they couldn't stream the world's assets in fast enough due to the harddrive

Preparing my multiplayer reveal erection as I type. I'm holding it from now until Thursday. Guerilla don't blue ball me!!

to be honest iam not very hopefull for Horizon FW to deliver a proper PS5 Version.

PS4 Datathroughput is ~30MB/s
PS5 Datathroughput is ~ 9GB/s

Or in more telling Numbers for some of the not so giftet ones in here:
PS5 Datathroughput is ~9000MB/s
PS4 Datathroughput is ~ 30MB/s

9000 : 30= 300

300 fucking times the Datathroughput.

There is no Timeline in wich the PS4 Version does not hold back the PS5 Version. And according to the Many Worlds Theorem there are more alternating Dimensions then there are Atoms in the Universe.
And this Myriad of Universes gives you realy strange ones like one where DonJuanSchlong is a Mod in here or even crazier ones where VFX Veteran actually knows his shit.

But there is not a single one in wich PS4 does not hold back PS5!

That's true, but I understand why it's cross-gen. It was being developed as a late PS4 release (after Ghost of Tsushima). It started in early 2017. At that time, if Sony asked, when will you guys have the game ready, Gurreilla would have answered ~3 years (which is the norm for a AAA sequel).

That means around February 2020. Considering PS5 released in Nov. 2020, it was always going to be a PS4 first game.

Anyway, I hope it looks good, just like Miles did. GG is an excellent studio and will totally flex their muscles. Just 2 more days.

Right. Sony could have had assigned Guerrilla the same timeline and strict next-gen only target of Demon's Souls, but Decima is mature as a development tool and as an engine fully capable of exploiting PS4 to its fullest. So if the team had something that truly pushed it out of the bounds of PS4 like the rift ideas in R&C Rift Apart does (for example flying mounts, although I mentioned before, flight should be possible in Horizon), that would be a decision to make of how to proceed, but this would be Guerrilla's third game on PS4, a sequel to a game that was experimental on the hardware and now established as a franchise, and one of a good number of projects running on Decima Engine. There would have been a lot more room to push Horizon with a sequel on PS4, with or without a PS5 version to develop.

And as far as PS5, there's a ton of new power in the machine, but there's also a lot that still needs to be harnessed with new engines and technology, and much of that technology apparently is taking even longer than expected to be ready for production. (Plus, COVID delayed things as well.) Guerrilla's tech teams have obviously been investigating next-gen (and lots of that will end up in H:FW,) but some of it is looking even deeper into the future, and only so much of that is ready to develop a game around even if PS5 is on the market.

Also of note, Horizon is (as far as we know) a single-player experience. Halo Infinite could not course-correct if the Xbox One legacy platform was a problem because that was a cross-play multiplayer experience. It has to be the "same game", and they needed to trust the scaling technology to keep up both the low-end and high-end in order to have all gamers in the same game sessions. (But also, I don't think analysis of the disastrous Halo Showcase would say One is totally the problem there, and I'm hopeful that the final game will eventually show X/S's strength when the engine is cranked to the max.) If they had to, Horizon FW PS4 version could have been handed off to another team or locked off from / substituted in certain features of the game while the PS5 version went to the full vision. There are not the same dependencies on Horizon that limit their choices of how to handle the two hardware platforms.

Insomniac pushed Spider-Man Miles Morales really nicely on PS5 (and is still pushing it with advanced new technology in post-release patches.) It also delivered a stunning PS4 version of Miles that, if you haven't played it, is strikingly capable and a nice step above Spider-Man 2018.

As long as Guerrilla delivers on what it established in that reveal trailer, I don't know how much evidence there'll be that it's a cross-gen title (especially in this "launch year" where there are so few games that define the generation gap) unless you've got a PS4 box right next to the PS5 one.

If they were to show this during E3 it would take like 1/4 of their conference, and they’ve got plenty to share. Even all the stuff we already know about is enough for a show

Yes it won't be as good as if it was PS5-only, but here are screenshots I made from my playthrough on Spider-man MM:

PS Studios aren't like any other, their crossgens surpass any other game.

Tbf they finish horizon in 2017, and ps5 devkit wasn't ready by then. It was getting a cross gen now or a exclusive in 2 years

Really excited to see what's new in the sequel.

The first game was great, but it felt that they could do so much more with it, specially in the story front.

And given that the game (likely) started development after the release of BOTW, I wanna see how much influence that game had over Horizon 2.

Climbing (BOTW style) makes far too much sense for Guerrila to not implement it in the game

True, but they've done this before. For example with their last E3 show. I really hope that Playstation isn't for real so short sighted to think most people don't expect big things from them around E3 time. Even though they've made known they ain't part of E3. People always expect big things around E3, whether they should or not.

If they do have a big show planned after E3 though then this will be a genius move. A big title like Horizon would already take away some spotlight from others. If other shows at E3 disappoint or are mediocre, people would already say that Playstation has done it better than them with a single game. And if Playstation holds a big event after E3, then Playstation would already have automatically 'won' the whole thing again.

Just curious, what was the joke?
At the risk of being banned here is my totally benign and non console warring joke that was taken too seriously by a mod. (It can't be console warring because biomutant is multiplatform)

"Biomutant will have a better Metacritic than this game. The only reason it will score more is because Sony pays reviewers. :messenger_grinning_smiling:"

Most likely they don't have time in the E3 show to show off 14 minutes of gameplay. That show should be reserved for trailers and teasers, plus sales bragging.

Yeah, I am not a fan of cross-gen games, but I'm very hopeful for a stellar showing by Horizon Forbidden West. That in-engine trailer with a glimpse of gameplay footage, all captured directly on PS5, gives me a lot of hope.

If the game looks like that (which it should), then that's game over. Literally nobody -- not even a single person, including analysts like Digital Foundry -- could tell that the footage we saw was being limited by the last generation console. And if you can't tell, does it really matter? We didn't know until Sony told us that this is a cross-gen game. That's why I'm hopeful.

This being crossgen dampened my excitement for it somewhat. Although I am eager to finally see gameplay.

I really think we're just up in our heads about this. We found out about Spider-Man: Miles Morales having a PS4 version the same day practically within the same hour that Sony showed the first gameplay showcase (3 months after the first PS5 trailer.) You can probably track the flip in comments on YT and elsewhere from "Oh wow, that lighting and density, can't wait for next-gen..." to "Meh, it's just an upscaled PS4 game." Same trailer, different perspectives. People made their own FUD.

The way this production probably worked out on the development timeline, a Horizon Forbidden West scheduled for a 2021 release would have probably been the same game whether it was a PS5-only game, a PS5/4 cross-gen game, or even a pure PS4 sequel (had next-gen not launched on time.)

Yep. I mean, if something tantalizing was actually not playable (I guess flight will be the ultimate line in the sand here,) or if Guerrilla were to come out and say, "Yeah, we were going to do this, but we had to push it back until Horizon 3," then sure, the last-gen aspect will be an anchor locked around this sequel's neck. But if it looks like that and if it pushes well beyond what Horizon 1 did (which, it's a sequel 3 years later, advancements should be expected even on the same hardware,) people with a PS5 would be best off forgetting PS4 version exists and just enjoy (and fairly criticize, which I'm sure there will be aspects that could be improved upon in the next sequel) the game that they get to play.
