Sony doing patches for old games and not doing native PS5 version is such a shame

The patches are fine. The only issue is that they are way too late. TLOU2 has been out for PS4 for months before the PS5 launched and is just getting a patch announced now. Fuck that. I actually played it on PS5 in January. It would have been nice to have some PS5 features, but it was still good. Demanding a full scale upgrade is fucking absurd and a waste of resources. Give me a new game a month sooner, not a minor lift on a game that is good enough now.

Is it though..? I think the patches are awesome, because they're FREE and the PS4 games in question already look amazing; Ratchet & Clank, Ghosts of Tsushima and TLOU2. It doesn't need a native PS5 port, just higher fps is all I need.

Otherwise we would get a "new version" like TLOU got on PS4 and pay for it.. which was the PS3 version running at a higher res (and framerate when the pro arrived).

I honestly don't understand why they can patch the framerate but can't patch the resolution? Because that's all the games really need, plus maybe higher res textures, and boom, you have a next-gen titles right there. What's the catch behind this?

That's a good point. Most of these 60fps patches are coming on games that have already been Pro patched tho so you get a nice enough boost with just the framerate really. With the way the BC works I assume the game would need some kind of a Pro patch to get a res boost as well. Thinking about it there shouldn't any issues bumping up older games like Driveclub or Bloodborne to something like 1440p with a Pro patch as it should run fine still on the Pro at 30fps, and then add PS5 boost mode option for 60fps. Even 1440p/60fps would be a nice boost over 1080p/30 on these kinda titles

I can sort of understand the argument if it was for an early PS4-generation game where a native PS5 port would offer significant improvements, but TLOU II? A patch is perfectly fine for that game. It already looks a lot better than many native PS5 games out right now.

They aren't done. Did you read the blog post?

The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!

They are probably talking about factions and some dlc or stand alone game.

Maybe but do you really think Sony has given up on remasters? I highly doubt it. Game looks great but they could replace the models for the characters and enemies with higher resolution ones possibly from the cinematics fairly easily and boost loading times substantially with a native port.

Tlous 2 uses the same assets on cinematic and gameplay. Anyway I dont see how they can improve this game unless they remake it

The difference is that 3rd party's are doing it for "FREE" so they can boost sales of the game to people who do not already own it. The bulk of games you listed from Sony are free through their PS+ collection or play at home ( if you did not own it already) and Sony will not make another penny on these games.

It makes no sense to invest more time & money to upgrade PS4 Games to PS5 when they should be dedicating their time to NexGen titles.

But I would have though they would put more effort with their big titles from PS4 especially when third parties have done full PS5 native versions for free such as Mortal Kombat 11, Avengers, Terminator and etc.

Though having a native PS5 version for Dualsense support and even faster loadings, honestly I'm fine with a patch just for higher FPS (when the game already have a resolution higher than 1080p). Ghost, TLOU II, GoW and others are fine, imo. I rather have the studios focused on new experiences than having to work on older titles to make a native PS5 title.

Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima are not free on Plus Collection.

Oh that, I actually have it... Hated it with it's semi open world structure, did one or two of the "bases" and let it go. Also, the girls should wear short skirts.
