Don’t buy one now. Honestly wait and try and save that 200 dollars and get both. Or like others have said get a series s from retail to tide you over perhaps. Unless you have a badass 4k tv and then I’d say you should get the series x.

seems like you are down the middle on both. Try and just get either or from retail now and then wait until you can get the other?

Don’t give into scalpers…if you do cave I would probably pick up a series x simply due to the ps5 is probably a hardware revision (fix coil whine and build quality issues) and quite a few software updates away from being a solid console (more HD space/vrr/ boost or 120fps mode/support for 1440p)

you will have plenty of game pass goodness and better versions of the third party stuff to play on the x and when the ps5 does become more available and they have fixed the above issues get one

So, I might be caving in and paying scalper prices for either an Xbox Series X or a PlayStation 5. I just don’t know which one I should get. The PS5 looks to be about $200 more on average. I do have more of a library on PlayStation, but I like the rewards system and GamePass on Xbox.

Games that are on coming out on both that I am interested in or have already been released (my most prioritized) are: Knockout City, Resident Evil: Village, Judgment (beat it on PS4 already), Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Lost Judgment, Demon Slayer: Hinokami Kepputan, WWE 2K22, F1 2021, Back 4 Blood, Scarlet Nexus, and the AEW console game.

PS5 does have exclusives I want coming out like: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Guilty Gear: Strive, King of Fighters XV, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade, Tales of Arise.

I’m just torn completely. I also prefer the XSX UI to the PS5 UI and I am not against trying to secure a console through regular means, but it’d be a bitch. So, flaming wars and fanboy crap aside, what do you think I should go with for my use case?

Kena and FFVIIRI are six month timed console exclusives. Both will hit Xbox in early 2022. Tales of Arise is a cross-gen multi-platform game and Microsoft has the marketing rights to the game. It's not exclusive at all.

I would say try to get a console bundle off GameStop instead. Both bought the Series X ($800 including tax) and PS5 ($735 including tax) from GameStop online and no issues whatsoever. If you're going to hundreds more than the $500 MSRP, then at least try to get a bundle because you can always sell/trade in the stuff that comes with it if you're not interested which would lessen the overall cost.

You can go the Ebay/scalper way but be sure that the seller is near flawless and is a long term member because any issues there would be even more of a hassle than trying to get one from GameStop online.

Overall, it seems pretty even. If I was you, I would go based on how badly you want to play the exclusives even though 2 of them are timed and 1 is multi-platform day one. If you don't want to wait for them and are hyped for Ratchet, then go with PlayStation 5 as long as you don't mind spending the extra few hundred dollars extra but if you can wait, then go with Xbox Series X, save that money and just wait until you have enough to get a PS5 bundle later on.

Whatever you decide, both consoles are worth owning in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide. :)

Well, I was going to buy it from Swappa.com at the elevated prices if I went that route. I may just try to get one the hard way, though. But the idea of an XSS seems feasible. I have a 4K TV, but it’s several years old and probably isn’t that great compared to what’s out there today. Would the XSS look decent on my TV? I think it’s about a 50-55 inch Samsung 4K TV. A cheap route into gaming (XSS) while I wait for stock to regulate into stores could be my answer because I really don’t want to spend $800-900 on a console.

The decision is simple...if you like playing great games, buy a PS5.

If you have a restricted budget and enjoy playing old games, buy a XsX

I have both and they each serve a purpose.
😅 You have a point but they will both have new games going forward.

Are Sony showing anything in June? I know they are not part of E3, have they announced anything?

As always it boils down to a few important questions...

What games do I prefer? If you are a single player type gamer than Sony would likely be the choice/Multi player than MS

What genres do I enjoy? Most third party is multi plat, but there are a few exceptions to the rule, to save time we'll name a simple 2, JRPG PSV, WRPG XseX/s

What is my backlog like? Due to both systems being backward compatible I would advise a strong look at your BL library, if you primarily a Xbone gamer than the XseX/x might be for you, PS4 then obviously PSV... I will say that MS has a phenomenal BC support and many games are better boosted compared to their V counterparts (just look at the Mass Effect LE)

Do extras matter? If say down the line Sony releases the PSVR Mach2 (not the name, but it sounds cool) and you want it then the V would obviously be a better choice.

And of course Exclusives, Sony is kicking off 2021 with Demon Souls, R and C, and Returnal and MS doesn't have much on the horizon this year (that we know of right now,) but with the Bethesda purchase and tons of Studios looking to be making awesome games as we speak 2022/23 look to be a hell of a ride. As a Ratchet fan I would say PSV, but go where your preferences prefer obviously...

Power On paper the XseX clearly wins, but it will likely come down to exclusives to show it, Sony has shown their systems strength with R and C so now the ball is in MS court to prove that all that horsepower is as powerful as they insist it is.

Runner up- Controller layout The tried and true Xbox control or the new and shiny Dual sense. Honestly ignore the extras and focus on thumbstick placement, I have friends who swear by both lol

Anyway, those are the metrics I always check out before choosing a console, you do you (P.S I would have included price but...nah unless you want an XseS than it's a moot point)

CEX here in the UK are selling digital PS5s at £360 now, which is basically £10 over retail price.

They're still selling "unboxed" PS5s, though. Uh huh. Fell off the back of a lorry, did it? More like it's stolen goods. That's the only way you'd really get a load of PS5s without a box.

Edit: I'm boycotting CEX from now on, as they're basically selling stolen goods, aiding scalpers, and hurting the gaming community.

I wouldn't purchase from Scalpers but if you must...

Both are compelling but you have to consider what system has the 'exclusives' that matter to you the most.

So if games like Ghosts of Tsushima, Demons Souls, Horizon, Last of Us, Persona, Blood Bourne, God of War, Grand Turismo and Spiderman mean something to you then stick with the Sony Ecosystem. It's likely you will see new games for those IP's on the PS5. Sony has always had some pretty darn good exclusives and there will be plenty more.

If Halo gets you hard, Forza, Sea of Thieves, Gears of War, State of Decay and now Bethesda titles then go Xbox. Traditionally there really hasn't been too many games on Xbox that had me boned up since I am not a Halo guy. Forza Horizon games were a blast however. Gamepass is amazing and so is Auto HDR and Microsofts dedication to doing right by backwards compatibility. Xbox has a pretty sweet future with all those studios it snatched up.

Another thing to consider also is that the PS5 controller ROCKS. The Dual Sense is on another level. I have both the PS5 and Series X, I tend to buy more games on my PS5 simply because the controller is a next gen experience all on its own and should be experienced by everyone. If Microsoft can come out with a clone then I'd start buying more games on my Series X and S but with that dual sense controller there really isn't any reason to unless I start running out of space.

Consider the games you want to play. Look at the exclusives for each system, past, present and future and figure out which system has the majority of the games you are going to want to play.

I was leaning more towards series x but I can’t stand Xbox controllers. Outside of fps and 3rd person shooters their controllers suck hard. Awful d pad and face buttons.
Try playing dmc5 on pc with an xbox1 then try it with a ds4.

Then again I have a good pc so Xbox seems pointless to me

For now get a Series S and then get a PS5 when there's stock

If you want lots of last-gen games for cheap, get a SeriesX with Gamepass.
If you want new-gen games in 2021 and 2022, get a PS5.

Don't buy a SeriesX at scalper prices if you're hoping to get new-gen games. By the time those come, you can probably buy the console at MSRP.
Don't buy a PS5 to play last-gen multiplatform games. The SeriesX has better backwards compatibility.

Though if you're paying scalper prices, it doesn't look like the $200 or even the Gamepass savings are going to make much of a difference to you.
I wouldn't pay scalper prices regardless. It just hurts everyone.

Looks amazing on my 4k tv and I have a LG

Yeah sure. Pay $800 for a scalped PS5 disk, or pay
$400 for a Ps5 DE and $300 for a Series S

But do whatever you want. I still need people willing to pay 1.2k for a Ps5 so I can get my consoles for free.

Seems like you want both in the end, so go for whatever is more available / cheaper now. Then buy the other one when things cool down a bit and you can buy at RRP.

Like everyone keep on saying - wait. Why play now when you can play a couple years down the line.

Fuck sake. Get a ps5 now and enjoy now. Get an xsx later and enjoy later.

My advice would be actual games over UI. If you can get both. But whatever you decide on, don't pay scalper prices.

Scalpers need to die in a red ring of death, that's some next-level gaslighting there. "lollipop_disappointed:

I strongly urge you not to buy from those people.

On the game's note, some people have said why not wait till E3, you will be able to make a better judgment call then.

Thread looks like an astroturfers wet dream so far.

Learn to exercise patience to buy at retail prices and make your own damn decisions.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
PS5, unless you are poor then you may go to XSX ( gamepass).

If you must spend money then buy a gaming PC! It will do everything an xbox does plus it will have some ps5 games.

I’ve got a PS5 and I’d honestly say don’t bother yet. At the moment it doesn’t feel “next gen”, just still waiting for the games to arrive. It’s just a big white PS4 for me fright now. Plus some games seem to have less issues and run better on the pro, namely the ones that haven’t been ps5 patched.

For the same reasons the op posted this to get a decent gpu will cost him twice as much as a scalped console. Neither a 6800xt nor 3080 are worth 2k.

I would try to find a PS5 for around $700 - $800 if you must have something right now op.

It certainly sucks that consoles are so hard to get hold off right now.....personally I'm waiting till they are readily available.

Why would you go PS5 now if Game Pass exist? And with all the exclusives coming to Xbox it's a no brainer.

Get a Series X and possibly a PS5 down the line.

I'd say get XSX+GPU now and PS5 somewhere later (preferably a Slim model), when there's enough backlog of Sony's SP-only games. In late 2022/early 2023 PS5 should be already widely available, probably even at 399-449, and all the 1st party heavy hitters will be already there.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
option 3 a gaming laptop….

:messenger_beaming:

but really hard choice, money doesn’t matter I’d go with Ps5 now. Xbox is the better value with Gamepass but if you are throwing in with scalpers prob don’t care about that.

Just wait until you can buy them for normal prices. Keep an eye on people who post stock alerts on Twitter, then refresh like crazy.

1) Don't buy from scalpers.

2) You cannot decide between PS5 and XSX ? Odd if you ask me, you should know what you really want.

depends on far away you are sitting from your TV
there is a chart somewhere, which says when it makes sense to have 4k or 1080p.

In the meanwhile HDMI2.1 TVs will get cheaper / more options will be available too and then you could enjoy all of the next gen HDMI2. 1 features.

Depending on what kind of consoles you currently own, it would even makes sense to stay on your current console/TV setup

because Series X is easier to find and it will be cheaper.
Where the fuck do you get this stupid ass ides that a Xbox Series X is more easier to find and will become more cheaper? Like what the hell? ---- First off just because it's an Xbox does not mean shit, second it will not become cheap and still to this day it's hard to find. Like lol wtf?

Wait. Don’t feed the scalpers.

I was lucky and able to get both near launch.

Both are nice but I’m simply playing backlog games…

Gamepass is nice because I’ve been playing games I’d never think of buying and enjoying them.

Neither console currently has true “next-gen” games available… R&C looks interesting though…

Honestly - I’d just focus on trying to get one of them in the coming weeks/months. You might can score an XSS easier if you really just want a console and use it temporarily until the XSX/PS5 are more readily available.

Once that happens … just trade in or sell the XSS..

EDIT: Neither console is worth more than their MSRP. They are both amazing pieces of hardware, but ultimately they’re mid-range PC equivalents by today’s standards. Buying from a scalper simply exacerbates the scarcity.
