Google says Stadia is "alive and well"

Yeah, can't even get one.

Dude do you even know who you are replying to? I just totally deconstructed your hilarious assessment of the PS5 situation in several other threads.

My post in this thread was meant as a bit of ironic sarcasm because the PS5 is obviously doing GREAT. When it's doing great, they have no reason to say "PS5 is alive and well". It's meant to show that if a successful platform isn't saying it, it reveals uncertainty, weakness and defensiveness that Google has to "let us know" that Stadia is doing OK (it isn't).

PS5 is the fastest selling console ever released. Wouldn't it feel a bit awkward and unusual if they said it's "alive and well"?

Developer marketing lead Nate Ahearn tells GamesIndustry.biz the platform is "alive and well."

"We're well on our way to over 100 new games launching on Stadia in 2021, and we're continuing to make Stadia a great place to play games on devices you already own," he says. "I'd tell any non-believers to take notice of how we're continuing to put our words into action, as we grow the Stadia Makers program and partner with AAA studios like Capcom, EA, Square Enix, Ubisoft and others."

When pressed for more information, Ahearn said Google was "focused on delivering value for our partners and on behalf of our players."

He pointed to the release of newer titles on the platform (such as last week's Resident Evil Village), the introduction of AAA hits like Resident Evil 7 and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order to the Stadia Pro subscription, and the ongoing addition of new features (the company introduced a search bar to Stadia).

I have Stadia pro. It runs pretty fucking well I must say. I'm playing that new Star Wars game on it and it was given to me for free just for having stadia pro. Same with the stadia controller and a Google home. I don't use either of those but still it's worth noting. I don't get what all the shit talking is about. If you have 10mbs down it runs nearly perfectly. Xbox games pass streaming always lags for me a little but stadia is buttery smooth. Maybe don't knock it before you try it? Dunno.
How do you get the controller and thing for free?

You can get a free controller/free chromecast ultra by buying Resident Evil 8 on Stadia (no sub for the 1080/60 FPS version. Stadia Pro/sub is for the 4K and free games)

After purchasing the game, you'll receive an email with a promotion code to buy the free stuffs.(0 bucks)

To see if your internet is good enough, you can test Stadia without sub, just by creating an account (it's not the usual "one month for free" bullshit and then an automatic monthly fee. Nope, there is no monthly fee...).

You can test Stadia easily with Destiny 2, Bomber man online.

(The free Controller/CCU offer is over for the US not for Europe)

There was a promo or something where if you signed up for pro they sent a controller and google home.
I don't think so.

It was a promo for Cyber punk (Controller+ Chromecast Ultra if you buy the game on Stadia)

and the same current promo for RE8. (except for the US, it's over)

It was last year for having YouTube premium.

Oh i know this offer but you said "Pro" (like Stadia "Pro") and Google " Home" (which is an app)

With such mix up, it was hard to understand you were thinking Youtube "Premium" and not Stadia "Pro" :).

@ the new comers

Yeah, there was offers for:

- Youtube Premium subscribers
-Cyberpunk buyers

Still active:
- RE8 buyers (Controller + Chromecast Ultra except for the US)

I want to thank Google for these monthly reminders. Otherwise most of us forget it even exists.
Not all of us have high end PC...

If your PS5 dies when playing Cyberpunk you can:

- play Cyberpunk at 15 FPS on Xbox One.
- touch your penis if you have a switch
- play it at 60 FPS on Stadia within 5 minutes (download the app, purchase the game and here we goooo: short loadings, no download, smooth experience)

Stadia is perfect for old casual gamers.

Well what else would you say about your own product that is a marketing failure?

Iam sure you would tell the media that this shit is dying and wont be support much longer, right?

Everything is always great with these companies and their services until it no longer is. Same goes for Apple, Amazon, Sony and Microsoft.

With no latency involved, I'm going with this.
Action latency:

PC 355 milliseconds

Stadia 385 milliseconds

Xbox One X 435 milliseconds

(11:10)

Jump in, then ;)

Honestly, latency on Stadia is long history (or bad internet).
With the Chromecast Ultra and the Stadia controller (well optimized to reduce latency), it's like local play. (except for competition where a few milliseconds matter)

There was input lag on Doom Eternal but it has been updated. Now the latency is lower than the xbox one X version.

Don't be religious, guys.

If you don't have a 4K TV, will you really spend 400 to 500 dollars for cross gen games ??? PS5 and Series X don't deserve so much praises right now. (next year probably)

If you want cheap but decent gaming right now, give Stadia, GFN, and Series S a try. ;)

Yeah....no. Talking metrics in ideal conditions is nice, but it doesn't represent reality. Even assuming you have a decent connection with no cap and have a google center near you, it's all for naught unless you live alone or maybe you have a 1gbps connection with perfect QoS settings on your modem. Personally, I don't look forward to telling other people in the house to stop dowloading/streaming so I can play my single player game. It's a like a trip 30 years in the past where you were told to get off the internet so they can use the phone.

I also remember in the DF coverage that despite having a decent connection home, John had to actually drive to a spot with better internet to take ideal measurements from his car. Fuck that.

I see but there is a middle ground between ideal measurements and big family with mediocre internet.

I tested a double 1080 stream (Netflix + Stadia) on my 40mb internet and it was still smooth and reactive.

Of course, if you have one 4K streams + three others at 1080 on a capped 40mb internet (fuck USA :) ) i understand your concern.

I'm just saying a 20 mb internet works fine for a single and 40 mb for a couple is OK. For a huge family, well yeah, over 300mb internet is mandatory.

Behind the sarcastic comments, some gamers admitted they were afraid of cloud gaming, afraid to see a netflix like evolution of the market which i could understand. But even if Stadia become a success, it won't happen. The video market is different. (many gamers are very conservative, love their physical releases or exclusives).

It's true Streaming services like Netflix are monsters in the series/Movies industry. But physical games will never die. Of course, digital is already leading the market but it won't kill the retail games. There are too many fans and i would say those type of fans are the most hardcore collectors...

Game streaming is being pushed not because it offers a better service to gamers, but because it offers control for studios. Offering it as an option is fine, but any talk of it being the future is pure greed.

Do you know that there was a time when Disney controlled when you get to rewatch a movie? That was before home media. Streaming offer to bring back the old days when you have no control over what to play. You pay your monthly fee and the studio tells you what you get to play that month.

It's not streaming related.

You pay a monthly fee for gamepass and "Microsoft tells you what you get to play."

I like PC, consoles, cloud gaming but I don't like subs right now. (as a school boy i would have loved subs since i bought too many garbage games back then) In 2021, i don't play that much, that's why free GFN, free stadia versions are perfect for me. (no sub at all and even MSFT, Amazon are studying the "no sub" option... of course, they prefer "sub" but Stadia, GFN fans are pushing for the "purchase" model)

The first months of Stadia were pure garbage : Mandatory sub, ridiculous lineup, it was a joke.

Sorry, to hurt conservative gamer's feelings but 2021 Stadia is a good service: Smooth/low latency even with 20mb internet/no sub/minimum loadings/no download/good lineup.
(even PC gamers are raging because Stadia has Judgment before them... In fact, it's a good news for Switch owners, they can try a Yakuza spin off on a tablet + controller without buying expensive consoles.)

Don't know if it will survive but if it reaches 2023 (PS5/GPU shortages ?), Stadia's gonna be great. (better lineup obviously and hardware upgrad).

I think the problem is that less than 10% of the members of a video game forum have tried Stadia. The service seems to be improving, but the interest isn’t. Unless, Google drastically increases interest, the service cannot succeed. With them cancelling in house developed games lately, that future is unlikely.

They really need to make the click and play on youtube a reality... (with no bullshit account creation. People are afraid of account creation and don't want to loose time)

They also need to improve their ads: Even if i know Stadia, i barely understand what it is... Too short, too vague. We don't clearly see what is so special.
They should also hire real stadia fans (youtubers ? ) for the next ads. They'll explain specifically to the gamers why they love Stadia, the features, the differences with the usual hardwares...

The interest will come if Google keeps delivering good games. Lately a few gamers were interested by the Falcom games, others by Judgment, much more by Resident Evil 8.

I've tried stadia and didn't find it any better than xcloud, which has issues too.

But let's go with the notion that Stadia is awesome and is as good as local gaming.
Then we have to say that Google has failed on 5 massive ways.

1. They failed to properly advertise the product.

2. They failed to bring any exclusive content, the cornerstone of any gaming platform in the past 30 years.

3. They failed to support enough hardware, hell, they didn't even support thier own new Google tv dongle when it launched. Does it even now months later?

4. The price of entry was wrong from the start. A chromecast and a controller cost Google, what, $60 total, and they were greedy and asked for double that. So instead of s giant snowball, they were left with not enough early adopters even trying it. Now they are giving it away and it's too little too late.

5. They should have had a monthly subscription from.the start that had a collection of games, not a game or 2 a month. Too much risk buying $60 games on an unproven cloud platform.

Anyhow, massive fail on almost every level.

I agree with you and it could be the end of Stadia BUT...

It could survive for even more important reasons. (don't say it will though)

1. The tech: Low latency, smooth 60fps for most games with average internet.

2.Price: You're right, price was awful for the content but now it is the cheapest way to play AAA games.

3. As a Sega fanboy, i can tell you exclusives didn't save most Sega consoles. I don't say it's not a bummer Stadia hasn't exclusives or having multi AAA is better than exclusives. (other consoles have them)

But Stadia has the cheapest way to play AAA games in a pandemic/crisis era.
That's really important.

Stadia competitors

Cyberpunk 2077
One S: console + CP = 150\200 bucks
One X: console + CP = 200/300 bucks
Switch: NOPE
PS4: Blocked for the moment
Series S: console + CP = 360 bucks
PS5 console + CP = Blocked for the moment.
Series X console + CP = 560 bucks

Stadia = 60 bucks

(Chromecast Ultra+ controller were offered by Google and you can play with old controllers, keyboards, PC, on old smartphone, tablets...)

For poor students, Stadia is the cheapest way to play AAA gaming and it's not even close. Price does matter.
(but Google being Google it's hard to tell if they'll succeed with such strenght)

But none of that matters if not enough gamers buy in, Google will pull the plug, at least thier history indicates this 99% likely.

Don't get me wrong, when it first launched I was intreagued and happy to see another competitor and or easy way to play games on any TV. Years later, it just looks like it's doomed.......

But who knows, if they stick at it, smooth out some issues, start supporting more smart devices (I.e. Google tv, roku, etc), and relaunch, maybe it could live on....

Interesting video on why the input lag is better on stadia than other streaming games services

Still noticeable and not close to consoles response IMO, don’t know how someone can play a FPS with almost half a second lag

Yeah that's why Google must keep releasing multi AAA with Free CCU/Controllers.

No secret, Microsoft spent billions during 20 years to reach the 3rd place.

Google must and will suffer to gain its place in the battle.

They say they are confident due to their vocal and hungry fanbase. (they are not lying on that matter, i'm primarly team GFN but I bought 5 games in 3 months, less for Xbox One, Switch).

I don't know if the fanbase and new comers will be enough (like the N64 fanbase) but there is small, strong fanbase. (on Resetera, not on gaf)

Half a second lag ? You're talking about Doom Eternal test on Digital Foundry...

It's been patched, it has now less lag than Xbox One because of the 60FPS...

It's time to stop dreaming about input lag on Stadia. It's long time history. The famous video of the chinese guy testing it is bullshit, the building was full of people, internet was split for dozens of persons.
(except for esport... Stadia is not ready for that yet)

That example is cherry picked and in the same city as the google servers as the previous vid mentions. Time to stop dreaming about the limitations of stream gaming.... the limitations are real and can only do better than the game with the worse input lag on consoles at its best.

Edit for clarity: let’s compare equally, best input lag game on consoles vs best streaming game service instead of worst input lag console game vs best streaming gaming service.

And i didn't have real latency even with a 15 mb internet in a 50 000 people town of Europe.

Not exactly a stellar internet.
(the problem with my previous 15 mb internet was not latency but a few frame drops on Cyberpunk. But nothing unbearable when Xbox one had 15 fps moments... No frame drops anymore on CP with my high speed internet)

... a Stadia thread on the ridiculousness of Google trying to say the platform is alive and well when gamers for the most part are ignoring it for all the reasons previously listed in this thread.

It is the best streaming platform for gaming, and gamers will never choose it over consoles or PC as a primary source of gaming. It is a niche product with a very small market appeal that is revolutionary, but no revolution will come making streaming hardware overtake home console hardware until the input lag is resolved to equal as home consoles as total... not equal to the worst example in home consoles.

Google saying it is alive and well is as accurate as saying people in hospitals with COVID will run a marathon next week. It is contradictory to logical reasoning when applying all considered variables.
