Man you are really weird.

The ranking I posted is the latest Famitsu ranking released today that is related to last week.

May 03 - May 09

This week ranking (May 10 - May 16) will be released next week on Tursday (May 20).

The ranking you keep posting is a combination of two weeks... (Apr 30 - May 02) + (May 03 - May 09).
It has the combined numbers of Pokémon Snap Week 1 + Week 2.

Pokémon Snap sold 46k units last week... not 194k.
PS5 sold 22k last week... not 53k.
RE8 was the best selling game last week... not third.

On the subject of the actual numbers, Minecraft continues to impress me. I was expecting more PS5 and Switch stock but I guess a lot of supply got used up for the first part of Golden Week.

Yeap Famitsu probably asked me to made up the ranking just to annoy you lol
Funny that I accurate guessed the real numbers and the internet is using them :messenger_fire:

Edit - I will even tease a bit because tomorrow I will guess the TOP30 and % of shipment sold for RE.

I never saw somebody deny actual data from Famitsu before lol

Ok dude, i'm going to sleep now, you have 8 hours from now to post a screenshot from Famitsu's website showing RE8 as number one in the ranking like you said, if you can't provide this simple screenshot then you are a liar and i will put you in my ignore list when i wake up 8 hours from now. good luck!

Man the ranking is posted already.
It is real.

You quoted Chris... ask him because he posted the same ranking... in fact the thread there has the actual numbers for Week 19 and not the combined like you did.

I think tomorrow I will create a new thread to have accurate numbers for the week with the TOP30 because this thread already confused people enough.

I think this thread will be fine, we can just post the top 30 here when we get them.

TOP30 is out with the exactly same numbers and ranking I posted before... but but but you are a liar lol

Seems like RE8 both version sold between 40-60% of the shipment.

What that means? That shipment is around 250k... digital around 50k.

You are the lying one dude, you posted the leaked numbers yesterday and said that they are from the new famitsu article before they updated the numbers and shouted "IT'S NOT NEW" to derail the thread, no wonder Chris thinks that you are a bitter troll.

As expected digital ratio of Resident Evil: Village is no where near the mythical 50% instead it's around 20-30% at launch and it will go down lower as the initial shipments retailers ordered will take a while to sell out and the second hand market will probably mean that Capcom won't need to ship much more than 300K physical units in the country lifetime.
This was the first test for the PS5, and third parties aligned with the PS ecosystem are not in a good position, next ones are Integrate & Scarlet Nexus

RE8 with 300K shipment
150K physical copies sold and 50K digital copies sold with 100K unsold physical copies on the shelves

First PS5 game in the ranking this year, Resident Evil: Village will have problems selling it's initial shipments as there is around 100K physical copies floating around and the PS5 version already exited the Top 50 on Amazon.co.jp, overall I think the game will struggle to surpass it's 200K physical across the PS4/PS5, meaning that Capcom won't need to send more shipments to Japan.

Currently Square's Nier Replicant is the top selling PS4 game and it will be the first title this year to surpass 150K sales physically. With these two games PS ecosystem has managed to make it to 4.5% market share within the Top 50 games this year. With the "big" titles slated for the upcoming 6 months being Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Scarlet Nexus, Tails or Arise & Lost Judgement. So overall Bandai, Square & Sega are the ones in a particular situation with expectations of all these titles being below 200K sales lifetime based on Resident Evil: Village performance. Outside of that we have the Demon Slayer game expected to launch this year but not yet dated,

Compared to last year's over 6 million physical software sold, PlayStation will experience a major decline. With likely 1-2 million physical software sold for the year, unless some major game that is appealing to the Japanese audience is revealed for 2021 or some surprise performance from the games listed so far. Digital cannot explain this decline in anyway, as we just saw that Resident Evil: Village sold around 50K units across the PS4/PS5 digitally at launch and Returnal with one day of tracking was the top selling game on the PS5 for April, meaning that to be in the top 5 selling games on the store front for any given month you don't need much more than 10K sales.

The situation will be further accelarated as Switch's summer line-up includes many third party exclusives which won't make their way to the PS5 this year, with Rune Factory 5, SMT V, Shin-kun, Yu-gi-oh, Baseball Spirits, Monster Hunter Stories 2 dropping in the next few months, these titles combined with Nintendo's 1st party offerings ensure that mind-share continues to be firmly on the Switch in Japan.

You are the lying one dude, you posted the leaked numbers yesterday and said that they are from the new famitsu article before they updated the numbers and shouted "IT'S NOT NEW" to derail the thread, no wonder Chris thinks that you are a bitter troll.

How is that crow tasting?
Man it was funny and you keep with the weird narrative lol

What I posted was always the real TOP10 for the last week.

Next time try to accept the numbers before call others liars.

And yes Chris uses the TOP30 compilation if you can’t understand even that I can’t help anymore... what he thinks about me is out of my concern.

TOP30 is out with the exactly same numbers and ranking I posted before... but but but you are a liar lol

Seems like RE8 both version sold between 40-60% of the shipment.

What that means? That shipment is around 250k... digital around 50k.

Where did you get that digital estimation?
Looks really bad and far from the 65% we see a lot in these threads.

If correct, It's the series lowest. I have no idea what is going on with the Playstation decline in Japan.
I didn't expect a thing from Returnal, but RE was the one game that had appeal for a good start.

Do you remember the glory days? When the japanese console market accounted for nearly half of global software sales and picked the winners and losers in the West? At the end of the 20th century.

Japan accounts for 15% of Square Enix + Capcom sales. Their sales depend on PlayStation performance in the West ('Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free')

Japanese console market is irrelevant. It has been devoured by mobile gaming. The disaster survivors depend on Europe and America.

Do you want japanese support ? Devise a strategy to dominate consumer spend in the West and don't lose sleep over Japan.

Nintendo panders to the japanese market too much, which is why PlayStation dominates the West and remains the japanese publishers darling.

The old "Japan doesn't count" argument in a Japan Sales Thread.

It's just the second country in market size.

Seems you are conflating two different things.
The only publishers that depend on Europe and America in Japan are a handful - Square Enix, Capcom, Bandai Namco, SEGA(due to Total War & FM) everyone else gets the majority of their sales in Japan & rest of Asia.
Secondly higher number of sales is natural when publishers are selling their titles for $5-10 years sometime months later with far lower revenue compared to their brand new games. If we take Square as an example Marvel's Avengers might have sold 3 million to 5 million units and still won't be as profitable as Momotaro which is a Japanese only title. That''s because one game remains at the same launch price while the other is devalued within months of releasing.

Even if Square, Capcom, Bandai, SEGA remain tightly aligned to a strategy that puts PlayStation central, there is 100+ other publishers in Japan that will have the opportunity to carve out the Asian market where Switch is dominating. I'm also doubtful that Japanese executives will be happy to become irrelevant in their home country, regardless of Western success.
In the past third parties did find much success on the PS ecosystem in Japan, on the PS5 it seems their games will struggle to surpass 200K aka niche status.

In the Famitsu TOP30 there are bars with the amount of what shipped was sold... the t works better for new releases... old releases will mostly have below 20% bar because there are already stock in the store..

RE8 is 40-60%... that means the shipment was around 250k... digital + physical ~300k so around 50k digital.

As I said the "it's not NEW" was in relation to the "NEW" written next to Pokemon Snap. It wasn't in relation to the numbers themselves.

Depends on the third party. Capcom won't be toooo concerned I think since they can still get good Resident Evil sales from PS5 in the West and they have a chance to grow the RE brand in Japan again with Outrage.

PlayStation's decline is mostly the fault of Japanese third parties. For a while many of them were failing to grow their current franchises into big hits or create new big hits (there were some successes like Nier). Hopefully Japanese third parties will be able to do this again soon.

If you compare one country against two continents then yes Japan's sales will be smaller, but its still the 2nd biggest country in the world for dedicated video game devices and in no way irrelevant. Nintendo's success is built on appealing to every major market and that's why its doing well. There's no evidence that its appealing to Japan "too much".

Why restrict themselves? If you make a variety of games for different platforms you can succeed in all markets. Konami is going to have some amazing success on Switch in Japan, but they can also have great success on Switch, PS5, Xbox and PC in the West.

Digital ratio is unrelated with physical shipped/sold ratio.

Old titles have a 20% shipped/sold because there is a lot of inventory from previous shipments... so selling 20% of all the inventory on stores is not bad.

I think Capcom and Sqaure are a step above Sega and Namco in terms of multiplatform strategy. I anticipate SE to reveal several DQ projects for Switch and maybe PS4 by the end of the month, so let's see if my faith in them is well placed.

certainly possible, just saying that even if four of the biggest local publishers decide to abandon Japan it's their loss.

I think Sega's and Namco's sales in Japan will continue to struggle but Sqaure and Capcom will see good returns. I don't think either of them will abandon Japan.

Quality game + good marketing and any Japanese dev can have excellent sales on the Switch, as proven by Rise and Momotaro. This ain't the Wii days anymore. Lots more devs should make the switch, and don't ignore my pun.

Switch Hardware in the two countries has surpassed 1 million units in for the year which makes the two markets comparable to France's Total in 2019 for Nintendo.
Overall there are pretty big differences in the two markets both in terms of software and console splits. In South Korea the trend is very similar to Japan last year. While in Taiwan PS4/PS5 software has been able to have a better hold while Switch software hasn't seen a exponential growth compared to 2019.

Ring Fit & New Horizon were the Top selling games in both nations.

Taiwan Software in 2019 was Switch 51.33% while the PS4 47.93% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 59% while PS4/PS5 is at 40%
Taiwan Hardware in 2019 was Switch 70% while the PS4 29% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 87% while the PS4/PS5 is at 13%

South Korea Software in 2019 was Switch 63% while the PS4 was 34% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 81% while the PS4/PS5 is at 18%
South Korea Hardware in 2019 was Switch 69% while the PS4 was 27% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 90% while the PS4/PS5 was 9%

This year the only PS4/PS5 games to chart in Taiwan are:
The Nioh Collection / #3, Demon's Souls / #4, Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War / #5 (Week 11), NieR Replicant / #1 (Week 16),

This year the only PS4/PS5 games to chart in South Korea are:
NieR Replicant / #4 (Week 16)

So overall there was a big restock of PS5 in Taiwan at the time Nioh Collection launched and Nier Replicant managed to chart in both countries. I expect Resident Evil: Village to also chart but we can see that the presence of PS games in the chart has further declined compared to last year, when especially in Taiwan you had Final Fantasy VII Remake & Resident Evil 3, Nioh 2, Persona 5 Royal, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, Yakuza: Like a Dragon claiming the #1 spot in the country during the week of their releases. While in South Korea you had at least a bunch of games charting in the Top 5.

Meanwhile here is the trend in Japan in terms of Software 2019 Switch 62%, PS4 34%, Japan 2020 Switch 75%, PS4/PS5 24%
This year we are heading towards over 90% of all physical software sold on the Switch, I anticipate the end result it might be closer to 95% unless some major PS4/PS5 game gets slatted for the fall.

I think it's just Nintendos games happen to appeal in Japan anyway so while they obviously target the west for the majority of sales Japan sales are good too.

The PlayStation stategy is perfect since the ps3. The ps3 lost a lot of market share and money. The ps4 was selling faster then the ps3 aligned until the last few months when ps4 went out of supply. But it was very profitable. Big success.

The ps5 is now selling faster then the ps4 and I guarantee it will be another very profitable gen. Sony will be happy.
