2021 is the 20th Anniversary of Xbox and Halo

Microsoft has now been in the home console business longer than Sega was.

Perhaps delaying Halo Infinite to 2021 was a good thing for marketing since they can now release the game on the 20th anniversary of the franchise in November.

I remember the day they announced a new system. Thinking they had no chance. Then I played Halo with a link cable and became hooked. They stepped up even harder with the 360. The Xbone was a pretty big flop in all the goodwill they generated, but it seems they are on track in a healthy rebuild with the XsX.

I'm optimistic that they'll really start pushing out some good games soon as the Xbox division needs to do something other than being a great BC system. Phil has done a good job of putting MSFT in a position to actually compete, which is what we all should want. I love seeing Sony and MSFT trying to one up each other and put out amazing products/games.

Hopefully Infinite can do something interesting. It's being cross-platform leaves me less than enthusiastic, but hopefully the extra time will have let them figure out a good solution.

I thumbs downed that video because I saw no clips of Ninja Gaiden II.
I still love my Xboxes though.

I used to hate on Xbox - had my PS2 and Gamecube back then. But then Halo 2 online launched and I couldnt miss it, I was hooked. Looking over the library that I previously ignored there were all kinds of Capcom and SNK fighting games, and they were online. Itagaki was making hits. Panzer Orta. Outrun 2. Xbox won me over then.

Once 360 secured Ace Combat 6 and Halo 3 launched - plus the most important part: a vastly superior controller to the competition.
Xbox has been my main console since.

20 years! Man, I dissed the original xbox so hard. I had a ps2 and a gamecube and I loved them...I waited out and then I thought fuck it. I'll grab one. Ended up falling in love with halo, splinter cell and many more.

That's when I realised I need to own every console every gen since. Keep up the good work MS.

Really sucks how deep the Halo IP has fallen since 343 took over.
This Fall will be interesting
Yeah, it's kinda sad how much it's fallen. Was the king for a long time until COD4 stole a lot of thunder and it felt like they never really had a good idea on where to take the franchise. I really hope to see Infinite at least be a competent co-op open sandbox Halo game. Gimme a unique looking sandbox with a few of my buddies and hundreds of enemies on a battlefield at the same time and I can at least be happy with that.

Halo was a game changer for me. I’ve spent my whole childhood being an ultra PS fan boy shitting on Xbox. Tried halo 3 at a friends house and the rest is history, everything about the game from its art style, music, gameplay, story, and its very “larger than life” fairytale mythical style grasped me. I found it strange, ominous, enigmatic... idk I’m just spitting words rn that I associate with my experience of seeing the Halo 3 main menu for the first time ever.

without halo Xbox is nothing, glad it’s on PC now

Fingers crossed there is a special 20th anniversary edition of Xbox Series X when I'm ready to purchase in November. :D

They should dump 50 new OG Xbox titles on to the Backwards Compatibility list on November 15th.

Otherwise, it's just another random day.

First console I played online. First console where rpg's hooked me deep. Only complaint I had from it was that the wrestling games sucked.

Man, what if Halo Infinite turns out to be the consensus for Game of the year. Will be a hell of a thing for Xbox and a suitable end cap to the positive moves they've been making lately. It's a big "if", because 343 have yet to prove themselves. The potential is there though. Microsoft is bringing in the big guns for Infinite.

Dang, time flies!

I don't even have an Xbox Series, but I'm pulling so hard for Halo Infinite to recover from it's initial faceplant and come back with something really exciting and awesome when it ships. The fanbase and the legacy deserves greatness.

I want Microsoft to unveil an Xbox Series Elite Controller Ver. 3 with the share button and the same dual sense features from the PS5 controller.

Games would have to be programmed for that and honestly I wouldn't want to sacrifice the great Xbox controller battery life for some HD rumble.

I think it was a big goof for them not to include it in the XsX controller. It def. gives the PS5 controller a nice edge that could be a deciding factor for some people.

I dunno, I see your point, but HD rumble and haptic feedback can really add that nice little je ne sais quoi to a game that just gives it a nice little touch of immersion.

HD rumble and your controller can't get through six hours of RE8 without dying.

Or no HD rumble and you can play through RE8 twice before having to charge it.

I dunno. I have a 10 mos. old daughter, I'm not sitting anywhere for six hours to begin with. Even then, when I buy a console I'll almost always buy two controllers so in a case like that I'd just switch to a second controller to let the first one charge and just keep playing. But again, I see your point. But even then, Nintendo Switch's Pro Controller have HD rumble and they have great battery life, so it doesn't always need to be a sacrifice.

I'm a very casual gamer and haven't played a halo game in years but I thought it looked great and so did the multiplayer in looks and fun imo

Halo 3 was much bigger than COD4.

Do people's DualSense's not last that long? Mine tends to go a good nine or ten hours if the mic is muted, less if I am using it.

And it's obviously more than just HD rumble.

Still, give me an onboard battery any day. And new features that augment the experience. Even if the battery life was a mere six hours I'd be OK with it for the bonuses to the gameplay. Microsoft is really lagging behind here. Their controller is basically a slightly better version of what we were using in 2014.
