Edit:231,188 hmm thats a big drop hopefully digital is stronger than was back then, i wonder how the leaked Switch Resident Evil would do on Japan 🧟‍♂️

Double edit: and VILLAGE has sold around 300k the first days on japan! Not bad! Digital sales stronger this time

Misses digital.
Seems like Capcom shipped+digital was 300k... that makes RE8 physical only looks bad with previous games but seems like the sales were very similar or even better than RE7.
Either way at least we know it shipped 3 million in a few days, 500k more than RE7 in the same time 👍

That Switch doing crazy numbers!!

We will get the % of what was sold in retail today with that we can estimate the actual digital sales.
But even a 50% physical sold puts the digital at 80k.

I would never imagine an XBox RE selling twice as much as a PS5 RE in Japan retail.
Well 360 had a 1 million userbase and no digital split.

BTW PS5 version physical sales was the only version that beat the Capcom expectations for physical + digital in Japan.
PS4 version physical did lower than they expectations but need to add digital to a better claim.

I wonder at what stage MS gives up on the Japanese market. The future of traditional gaming consoles -- let alone Xbox -- in Japan isn't looking that bright either.

Probably mid-late 360... they tried to focus in Japan in the first years but the sales didn't come so they stooped to invest there.
Took them 4 years to reach 1 million userbase there with 360 having high Japan exclusives in the first 3 years.

Somehow Gematsu combined Week 18 + Week 19 that messed the ranking.

That is why people are making weird questions like why Rise sold more than RE when it didn’t.

Yeah. The reason I'm guessing is because it's listed as 初登場 on Famitsu's combined 2 week sales rather than it being an error from Gematsu.

Gibson said the digital ratio for Resident Evil: Village WW was 50% including Steam (which is 100%), for Japan 30% digital for Resident Evil:Village at launch is the realistic outcome, so shy of 200K sales at launch. With the physical shipment of over 250K, probably around 75K for PS5 and 175K for PS4 putting sell through of PS5 version at 40-60% and PS4 version at 60-80%, we will find out if this is a correct assumption tomorrow morning.
But considering how quickly the PS5 version is dropping down on Amazon.co.jp hourly charts, I'm guessing retailers will need a few months before selling the initial shipment. PS4 version will maybe reach 200K physical lifetime but I'm not sure if the PS5 version will ever reach 100K.

All in ways anyone wants to look at charts! 2 week chart or one week chart ranking! Do not understand why it’s becomes cringe discussion or misunderstanding!

Why do we concentrate on Japanese sales data more than every other country in the world combined on this site lately?

Personally, its because I'm more interested in the Japanese games in general. So that market is more interesting to me.

But in general, it's one of the most relevant countries in this industry (by cultural influence and money), and the only to be transparent with numbers.

NPD is a mess since they started hiding the numbers and just rank stuff. Rankings without numbers are useless, and when the methodology is flawed (mixed sources) is even worse.
Individual European countries are smaller than Japan, and there is no data aggregation at the continent level with a sound methodology. Each place has its own way of publishing results.

The rest is just corporation PR spinning everything to paint a nice picture regardless of the actual numbers. Very few companies open up their numbers.

Ethomaz isn't lying, the Gematsu article is two weeks of Famitsu data combined (things have been done differently recently due to Golden Week)

Why do we concentrate on Japanese sales data more than every other country in the world combined on this site lately?
This has already been explained to you multiple times but I can say it again. Japan gives us more data than pretty much any other country, so that means there's more to discuss and analyse.

This is not something that has been happening 'lately'. Weekly Japan video game sales threads have been on this forum for close to two decades.

The people posting in this every week were nowhere to be found during the Wii U years.

That is because Switch... Nintendo fans feels comfortable to talk/share about Japan sales but I don't think that is a issue... the thread should be created and discussed every week.

So it is a welcome job that these guys do... I appreciate it and it is totally fine to be happy with Switch performance not just in Japan but worldwide.

2 PS4 and 1 PS5 game in the top 10. Sony is catching up it seems.
PS5 left PS4 & Vita behind and now is catching Wii U... let's hope it can catch the next target too (PS3).

And I appreciate your input. We always have interesting discussions that actually use data and never devolve into "console warz".

Plus it's not like the people in these Japan threads don't also post in threads on UK, Europe and North America. We have a good and growing sales community here.

Nah, he was lying, he posted last week leaked numbers and said that he got them from the new famitsu article.

PS5 left PS4 & Vita behind and now is catching Wii U... let's hope it can catch the next target too (PS3).

The PS5 software is not catching to the Wii U at all.

20 weeks since release

Wii U
software - 1.378.938 (14.428 at 20th week)
hardware - 893.393 (8.047 at 20th week)

PS5
software - 179.650 (<15.000 at 20th week)
hardware - 485.476 + 94.735 DE = 580.211 (51.931 + 10.364 DE = 62.295 at 20th week)

The leaked numbers are Famitsu numbers.

I think what happened is that he said "not new", referring to this data not being Snap's first week, but you thought he was referring to the sales data not being new.

It's a simple misunderstanding.

You are making the same weird mistake than Chris.
Comparing physical only with physical + digital.

PS5 is indeed catching Wii U userbase like I said.

PS. I don't know why you continue lying to yourself lol

Nah, he said:

and posted the last week leaked numbers to convince me that i posted old news lmao
You keep saying that but it totally wrong lol

I said the truth... you keep in deny.... I explained twice... you OP continue showing combined numbers and so you try to say I'm lying? Pokémon Snap is not new... it was released two weeks ago.

C'mon... you don't understanding doesn't make me a liar.

For reference this is the actual ranking for last week.
