Hermen Hulst: Sony's First Party has over 25 titles in development for PS5, almost half of which are new IPs

From Wired,

According to Hermen Hulst, a Guerrilla cofounder whom Jim Ryan tapped to lead PlayStation Studios in 2019, the group has more than 25 titles in development for the PS5—nearly half of which are entirely new IP. “There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” Hulst says. “Big, small, different genres.”

Also of major note from Jim Ryan on PS5's supply,

“We’re working as hard as we can to ameliorate that situation,” Ryan says on a Zoom call, mere hours after receiving his second Covid-19 vaccination shot. “We see production ramping up over the summer and certainly into the second half of the year, and we would hope to see some sort of return to normality in terms of the balance between supply and demand during that period.”

Smell that? new ip's

But Jeff Grubb, Jason Schreier, and the narrative!!! Seriously this isn't surprising at all. This is just what PlayStation does every single generation. They aren't going to stop investing in new IP despite what complete morons like Jeff Grubb try to spin. People like him are just mad that Sony doesn't talk to them.

I don't know why people would think otherwise. Until Sony shows that they won't invest in new IPs there is really no reason to think that it won't happen. During the PS3 generation they funded new IPs and their sequels regardless of how big of a success they were. During the PS4 generation they also introduced new IP alongside bringing forward older IP. So, I think until Sony does otherwise people should just wait and see.

Don't tell us Phil Hermen, show us. Wonder if Sony will continue the tradition of announcing/showing games waaay before they are ready, and then delay them a few times even further. Also, quality over quantity, 25 doesn't mean much if it's games like Knack, The Order, Killzone, TLG etc. games barely anyone cares about. But who knows, rumors say they want to get back into MP field, so chances are at least some of those 25 games are MP-oriented.

They've nearly released all of the first party games they announced last year so I think they're done with that tradition.

Once Horizon is out at the end of the year they're just missing God of War and GT7.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Considering Sony has already released 2 major PS5-only titles - with a 3rd just a month away - there's no reason to suggest they won't continue with the same multi-faceted approach.

I'm sure a few of them are VR specific too.
You know good n well Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls, Returnal, R n Clank dont count. Des All Stars too. /s

Sony is doing things....the exact same way they always have....and yet some ppl are still harping on cross gen first party games.

Its insane.

I hope Phil won't show CG anymore, but I bet he doesn't show gameplay this E3 because Halo Infinite backfired on him.
