Is Microsoft's Xbox the new RPG powerhouse?

I've noticed the trend some time ago (sadly), there seems to be quite a lot of upcoming medieval-setting FPP RPGs, except for Starfield, while I'd personally much prefer third person perspective for RPGs, and something that's not a typical nerdish sword/shield/bow/magic setting... It's sad to see that no one wants to make a robust TPP gun-based RPG.

I like the fantasy/medieval setting, but I hear you. Bethesda will probably crank out another Fallout at some point, god help us. Not saying that's a "robust TPP gun-based RPG," but at least it's not medieval fantasy.

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusive to Playstation. At least timed. That's a bigger deal to me than anything Xbox potentially has.

Yeah, me too. These studios are basically unknown entities, with little to no history of successfully releasing games. Lists are fine and all, but let's see them actually release one of these games before we get excited.
Lol what? Obsidian, Bethesda etc all have history of successfully releasing games.

I respect every opinion but that’s quite a stretch, been a while since there was a good FF mainline title.

No. This is the new RPG power house:

Those first party games are all well worth looking forward to. The thing that might make it a "powerhouse" though, is if they can continue to surprise with more Japanese support. Dragon Quest and Octopath Traveler are very welcome additions to Game Pass.

... what?

FFXV, the last mainline multi-platform Final Fantasy game, has sold around 10 million units since its release. FFVII Remake - a remake of one of the most beloved games of all time, a game hyped to hell and back, and a crown jewel of PS4 platform exclusivity - seems to have only sold around 6 million units (I thought it was more, tbh). Fallout 4, arguably Bethesda Game Studio's worst game (F76 was made by a different team), has sold somewhere around 13 million units. Skyrim sailed passed 30 million copies a while ago. You might have a point if we were only talking MMOs. FFXIV - sitting at over 22 million players having tried it - is doing very well, but, it's worth noting that Elder Scrolls Online has had over 17 million players try it out, and it's still growing. So, if we look at things overall, Xbox's biggest RPG series - The Elder Scrolls - easily eclipse Final Fantasy. And Microsoft have several of these series now, such as Fallout. You're looking at Final Fantasy as if this was still the 90s or early 00s where they're really industry leaders. The reality is that Final Fantasy hasn't been a true industry leading hitter in the west for a while now. Meanwhile, WRPGs have slowly taken over as the defacto RPG experience for western audiences. And Microsoft owns... well, basically all of the developers who make great WRPGs.

Their future output for WRPGs is really is exciting

Starfield and Fable i'm really excited for

Interested in avowed. Outer Worlds was pretty shit but i'll just boil that down to the smaller budget.

I'm hoping Wasteland devs AAA game isn't top down crap though.

pretty good chunk of jrpg’s as well, their is some timed exclusivity sfuff with the newer final fantasy games but most of the other ones are on xbox as well. I mean shit, dragon quest, kingdom hearts, and the talesnseries are on xbox and even octopath traveler is on xbox and not playstation. I mean xbox is never gonna become the ideal spot for jrpg’s but they certainly arent lacking

No, he just a biased moron who can't let others enjoy the fact the yes after 6 years Xbox has games.
Dude, he has been here for years and years since early xbox one release. He isn't a biased moron, if anything he is bias towards Xbox judging by my interactions with him over the years. There is no need to have some persecution complex and call him a fanboy if he says to wait for the games to actually release.

Why would it be inexile hired a Santa Monica person for the combat portion of the AAA game. It's not going to be an action rpg. I think inexile has this one covered God of War combat designer and Brian fargo.

Those aren't even RPGs.

I'm not sure that's the right word. I mean, pretty much all of these games would have been on Xbox and PC anyway, even if Microsoft hadn't bought the studios working on them. By and large, nobody on those platforms is getting anything they wouldn't have gotten anyway.
I disagree, a few of these wouldn't have been made without Microsoft backing and funding. Avowed definitely and Fable of course.

How big are RPG's in 2021?
Well, pretty big, if you actually consider that most of the last TGAs have had at least one RPG in the contest for GOTY, and then you have Dragon Age Inquisition which won the category in 2014, and then The Witcher 3 the following year. We must also consider that the most hyped game in recent memory was an RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. We got to a point that games that aren't RPG are trying to introduce RPG elements, even Gears of War is doing this.

Those will be some great RPGs as long as your definition of the word doesn't require 10,000 year old dragons disguised as toddlers.

Who cares? Stop spitting on Xbox success that they finally have some games. If you that horny for the game just make a thread about it. -- I said what I said -- Another one in my fanboy ignore list.
You should calm down. The thread asks if ms is the new powerhouse. The guy just gave his opinion. You don't have to like it and certainly shouldn't get so triggered over it. Reading between the lines this guy may just be saying he prefers jrpgs vs wrpg.

Me personally I like both.

But that's the only type of RPG that actually counts.
Really?

With all the port begging the Persona series gets I beg to differ.

Also, nice to see Bethesda is liked again. I remember hearing how Obsidian would outclass them and they were past it making good RPGs.

Nice to see that flip.

Who are you even talking to? I still have a very low opinion of BGS as a developer, frankly.
Then again nothing beyond the possibility of redeeming themselves with ONE single well designed game.

I take issue with the "new" claim. These aren't new studios for the most part and all their titles would have been multi-platform (or at least on xbox) anyway.

If you look past the marketing angle its apparent that the only difference is these titles will end up on GP day#1, and likely Xbox console exclusive for some period of time - maybe permanently.

Do we have confirmation of Elder Scrolls and fallout "exclusivity"? I use that term lightly because I can get them on pc.
