Is the Switch Pro vaporware or real?

Got the switch lite and really love it. There are a couple of games I would like to play on my big screen so deciding on picking up the regular switch. I rather wait for the "pro" version if indeed it exists. IS this a thing or internet bullshit?

Nintendo was dirty by not allowing the Switch Lite to connect to a tv.

Manufacturing reports had come in hot, one supplier had even mentioned about their OLED screen being used for the new switch on their investors call.

I expect the new switch to launch on at least this fiscal year.

I'm sure Nintendo will make a next gen variation on the Switch but I doubt a Pro model will be the prototype. Nintendo has never been about building super powerful consoles. There wasn't anything like it with previous gen Nintendo consoles. By adding a Pro controller, adding a larger micro SD, simply connecting it with a 4K monitor...it's a Pro at that point.

I don't think so, not after 4 years.

What's more likely is a Switch 2.

At least that's what I hope Nintendo is doing, seems to stupid to me to release a "Pro" version this late in the game, but I guess it could work like the 3DS and not like console gens.

Still, I think it would be smarter just to focus on a successor and not a revision, I even know the perfect name, just call it the "Super Switch"

Just wait because you are not missing out on much. Switch is more impressive as a handheld tbh.
And 100% a new Switch is coming,hopefully called Super Nintendo Switch.

Right? Doesn't really "switch".

I still think a Switch with no screen that only connects to a tv would be cool too. Just a tiny box with cartridge slot and HDMI out. Could ship with a Switch pro controller.
That's really what they should have done from the start, sell a console only Switch that's just a little beefier to be able to do native 1080p without the need for the handheld mode.

At least that's what I wish they did, still it is nice to have the option of handheld mode.

With Nintendos record of bombing every 2nd console the next one is the Wii U2.
I see no reason why that would happen provided they actually stick with the same idea and not try to reinvent the wheel again.

The Wii U only failed because it was something completely different than the Wii, had it only been a "Wii HD" it probably would have been a success.

It's a rumor that exists since Switch's first year, so it'll be real at some point or it will become the Switch 2.
I feel like after 4 years it's going to just be Switch 2, another year and the Switch will be 5 years old, that used to be a console's entire lifespan, it's a little longer now but 4/5 years seems too long to release an upgrade.

Just wait because you are not missing out on much. Switch is more impressive as a handheld tbh.

Yes, "Super Nintendo Switch" is what I hope they call it and I hope it's significantly beefier than the Switch was when it first launched.

How many redesigns did the 3DS have? Wasn't it six of them? The Switch Pro, or whatever it ends up getting called, is definitely real. It's just a matter of time. Nintendo's probably waiting for an opportune moment to launch it. Maybe they're waiting for a game to launch alongside it? Zelda perhaps?

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Vaporware is something that is actually in development that stops development after being announced with no explanation. The word for the Switch Pro is myth or rumor.

Every generation of Nintendo handhelds has had a hardware revision:
- gameboy -> gameboy pocket
- gba -> gba SP
- DS -> DSi
- 3DS -> New 3DS

Switch won’t be an exception to that rule. OP you should buy a Switch Lite since it’s cheap and amazing, without a doubt the most pleasant handheld to play. Then buy a Switch pro for TV play when it comes out and you can find one (as it’s gonna be hard to find in the beginning).

As it's not been announced how can it be vapourware?

Lots of speculation made up of hopes and dreams... which will mostly be bullshit, mostly.

Well, judging from your post with the accurate history of previous handheld hardware revisions, the next version of the Switch won't be a "pro" model?

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't understand why Nintendo would suddenly release something powerful. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm 100% expecting the upgrade to be very, very modest.

Nintendo said multiple times they want to expand the Switch family, so a Switch Pro is a real thing.

The only thing I don't understand is if the Switch Pro have sense when you can release a Switch 2, more powerful and more compatible with the next gen.

New 3DS was more powerful than 3DS, and I think the same with DSi. To be clear, I don’t expect the Switch revision to have a massive power gap with the current Switch but I can always be wrong.

Considering the current difficulties with component shortages, I am not certain that releasing a new revision is the way to go, unless they managed to make this revision less dependent of said components. But I kind of doubt this, as the design of the revision probably started some time ago, when shortages were not that bad.

When you have a product that sells that many units, I don't see the need of a more powerful revision. Might as well work on the next console directly, and build games for the release date (probably what is happening with some big games being held hostages). I would definitely do this from a pure business perspective.

Yeah, but the difference was very small and very few games even made use of the power advantage. I hope they do things differently this time but I really don't expect it.

Seems like a terrible idea to release any new tech right now. Companies can't produce enough and whatever small amount gets released gets bought by botters and put on ebay.

Ive been saying from day 1. Just look at almost every handheld Nintendo ever made. There is always an incremental upgrade version.

A new Nintendo console is definitely coming this fiscal year (until March 2022), unless Bloomberg's Takashi Mochizuki is on his way to lose his job.

Whether it's a "mid-gen upgrade" like the DSi or New 3DS or an actual new-generation console is up to our guesses at this point.
On one hand Nintendo traditionally releases mid-gen upgrades on handheld consoles (two examples above), on the other hand it's a bit late for a mid-gen refresh.
Also, the mid-gen upgrades on Nintendo handhelds haven't focused on significanly increased processing power for games, as both the DSi and New 3DS got the exact same GPU as the original consoles but upgraded the CPU + RAM mostly for QoL and non-gaming features.

Ideally, it'll be a significantly new console but Nintendo will try their hardest to promote cross-platform games for a period of another 2 years or so, to avoid angering all the people buying a switch in 2021.

200% real, e3 reveal

Probably all the " superpowered console " things about this switch pro all bullshit tho, it's "just" a 4k switch

The train for a "Switch Pro" is already long gone, it will be a successor but in the same package (just like NES -> SNES or PSX -> PS2).
Nintendo also has a stable SDK and will stay in the ARM SoC Game, so backcompat will be a thing.

I think what people think is a switch pro is vaporware.

It's going to be the Switch 2.

I do think the original switch is going to be upgraded again though but a cheaper version again and only after a successor has been released.
