Days Gone: No support for DLSS or ray-tracing on PC "for the moment"

KyoZz

Tag, you're it.

Although Days Gone will feature several PC-specific performance and graphics enhancements, the game is not compatible with any ray tracing effect or DLSS

unknown.png

Days Gone, the post-apocalyptic open world game developed by Bend Studio and edited by PlayStation, will arrive on PC on May 18 on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Despite PC centered features like FOV slider, unlocked framerates and more, it seems that it will not have two of the most anticipated improvements by computer gamers: it will have neither DLSS nor ray-tracing support.

This has been confirmed by Bend Studio itself in a new FAQ that it has published on its official website .
In this question and answer section, the developer explains that Days Gone will not have compatibility with DLSS or ray-tracing on PC , although the first feature says that it will not be compatible “for the moment” , leaving the door open for it to be possible in the future.

Maybe we'll see some ray tracing effect on a futur patch, along with an upgraded version for the PS5 ?

it's a ue4 game, it should run fine. i'm still flabbergasted that this is the game they chose to port.
They start porting all their first party stuff then why would i buy a PS5 when I could simply get a PC and have the best of all 3 world's with Gamepass...

You’re not wrong but ”simply get a PC” today is easier said than done. Been waiting for a 3080 for almost half a year now. The one I have on order goes for $1200, unless they increase the price even more until I get it. The industry is kinda broken right now, scalpers plus crypto miners are scooping up everything. You might find a new graphics card by buying a complete prebuilt PC though, if you’re lucky.

generic Walking Dead game won't be so hard on any PC from 2016
Playing through the game for the first time as we speak and I can only recommend it.

It does have some technical issues, glitches etc but being generic is not one of them, gameplay is fun, the hordes are massive and the bike progression is simply fabulous.

so sad to hear they are not making a sequel, this so far has gone up into my top 5 ps4 games, it's that good.

There’s also no guarantee that they port their PS5 titles. I reckon they’ll port the PS4 back catalogue to try to squeeze out extra revenue and get people excited for PS5 exclusives. I’d be very surprised to see PS5 games on PC in anything less than 3 years after their PS5 release, but I could be wrong, we’ll have to wait and see what their strategy is.

Good job Sony. Let's put a former "exclusive" that was great in its own way on PC and then not even utilize any of the advantages of having it on the PC, such as Ray Tracing, DLSS and other things. Good idea. Idiots. Clap clap motherfuckers.

???

What percentage of PC games release with those features? I'd understand somewhat if this was a brand new game in development now but this is a last gen game getting a port to the PC.

Did you get like this when Kingdom Hearts 3 got it's PC port without those features?

DAYS GONE with or with out Ray Tracing looks amazing, although in TRUTH after playing a ton of games with RAY - TRACING on especially on PC such as Metro Exodus, RE 8 the village, and tons more games well it's a major missed opportunity at least for now.

For Real i truly believe that DLSS is GOD LIKE technology that needs to be standard just like NVIDIA graphic settings tabs by default.

Can't wait for DAYS GONE but any one with a powerful PC knows the impact of both features so yes let's hope for the best with DAYS GONE.

Dude, wth? First off, it's a port of a last-gen game. Second, why are you acting like everyone and their god damn mother has a PC capable of RT and DLSS GPU?

Well, "for the moment” sounds pretty positive compared with "Ew! Will never happen. Zero, zip, zilch, nada!", which could have been the response.
Personally, had I been in Bend or Sony's shoes I would have actually held back such features only to release them 3-6'ish months later when sales and hype have tapered off to shock them into full gear again. Employing cheap guerilla style marketing with carefully presented early screenshots, interviews and giving Digital Foundry early alpha builds of the new enhanced features.
That's top notch publicity that'll show as a big fat juicy spike on the sales chart.

Yes yes, why don't you take a game that wasn't meant for these things and put these things in for the very small minority of people with RT capable GPUs..

No, because KH3 is a shit game to begin with and wasn't a former exclusive.

This is a 1st party Sony "exclusive" being ported to PC without any interesting features which kind of defeats the entire purpose of the PC port other than letting more people play it.

Whether you like Kingdom Hearts 3 or not is not important, I bought it up as an example because it's a recent last gen port with a similar timeline (time from console release to PC port).

I'll ask again, what percentage of PC ports get DLSS and ray tracing? They are nice to have features, not requirements. The most important thing is that the port is a good one that runs well and allows arbitrary framerates/resolutions.

The entire point of the PC port is to allow more people to play it or for those who wish to play it again to do so at higher settings/resolution/framerate.

You're a moron.

Its a single player no name game. It needs all the carry power to sell it towards PC gamers. And excluding features that people on PC are these days interested in is not helping selling a old generic zombie shooter game that they ask 50 bucks for.

It's dumb business. They should delay it by a month and apply it and then release and heavily advertise with it or even go further then other titles just to make it a benchmark.

Thats because it is an Unreal engine, one-click port to the PC platform, cos it made by PC first. Easy money from $200 million for multi port projects.

Maybe when you are capable of creating a post or a thread that is actually well put together then we might be able to have a decent conversation. Worst thing is I don't think you even regard the PC as a primary gaming platform for yourself. Good luck running DLSS and ray tracing on that 1660 of yours:

My PC unfortunately gives off small boi e-pee pee energy because I am rocking a 1660. However, my console gives off VERY MASSIVE BIG BOI e-pee pee energy because I have both PS5 and XSX. <3

The reality is that after the fact PC ports have always existed to increase sales and broaden exposure for once console only titles. It being a good port (if it is) and being on Steam (rather than the EGS) will be enough to carry it. Provided the port isn't a shit-show it will most likely be in the top 10 Steam sellers list for a while starting from the day of launch launch and then beyond.

Single player or not makes no difference, a high proportion of the top sellers on Steam are single player. There's always room for companies to do more with their ports since there's unlimited scope but the only developers that tend to put out software that acts as a "benchmark" are those who see the PC as their primary platform (CDPR, Crytek, 4A Games, etc).

Are we always going to get fanboys having a rage moment when a PC game doesn't support DLSS now? As long as the port is fine it should run well on most hardware.

just hope its a good port, those fetures can be put later. dont force just because ppl want it ASAP cuz then we will be talking about how bad they implemented.

Why are you so obessed with me? I mean fuck man, I know I am god and set an amazing example for others, but stop with the harassment please. It's very uncomfortable and getting a bit annoying.

This is the worst take. Pc is 5000 usd. Not 500. It's hard to get, there are always issues and you have to wait at least 2 or 3 years for ports.
Great advice

Will any of it be needed tho? Implementing RT is not a simple task if the game wasn't build with it in mind from te ground up, so I'd never expect PS4 ports to receive any RT treatment, as already seen with HZD and DS, or various 3rd party multiplatform titles of that gen's to begin with. The game looks great regardless, the natural color palette and great PBR implementation make it one of the most pleasantly looking titles of the generation for me personally. DLSS would've been a welcome addition obviously, but then again, if it ends up running so well like DS port, it won't be necessary.

Its probably the video encoding. Some reviewer said it runs great in excess of 100 frames at 1440p on a 3070. Its an ue4 game, there wont be any issues. Kinda lame for gamespot to show the game on pc but with a controller. Why ? The single biggest differentiator next to a higher framerate is the option to play with m/kb. Its a fundamental shift in how you interact with the game. Why would they not show this new way to play the game that was not possible before and instead they show footage that looks like any random console video

It's UE4, but I expect the open world streaming is not. Harking back to Arkham Knight.

However, I suspect you are right either way. Probably runs fine.

Relax. It's their choice, they can play on whatever the hell they want.

I primarily game on PC and only use a controller (DS4) only. That's right, I never use m/kb for gaming on PC. That's the beauty of PC gaming. It's choices.

IGN has release new pc footage, mouse based on how ADHD it is. Only 1440p however. Not as sharp as PS5 4kCB…..

I think its you who needs to relax here. Did you get the impression anyone cares how you play or that im not relaxed ?

Ive already explained, a previously console exclusive being available on PC means it is now opened to a different style of gameplay that was not possible before. It would be more interesting to show how this new way of playing the game performs, instead they just showed some generic console style gameplay that is exactly the same as any random ps4 footage.
