Resident Evil: Village - Review Thread

What are you talking about? How did the conversation switch from "I don't like action and don't want to buy" to "reviews don't matter"? I'm seriously just talking about your overblown initial response, and haven't even read any other replies other than your quotes that keep dragging me back to this thread. I think you're getting your arguments mixed.

And if you say so. You're yelling at the clouds, dude. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The convo didn't switch. You just came in to defend your little online friend with a bunch of nonsense. He took one thing he didn't like from one review and let it influence him over anything else out there. Where have I deviated from that? I've just been having to deal with you interjecting with dumb shit that makes no sense even though everyone can see that guy's hypocrisy.

Where to start with such an ill informed take.

7 was a terrible game, was only FPS due to being on PSVR, was not a resident evil game but rather a serious FPS horror game that Capcom didn't have the balls to release on its own merit and so slapped the Resident evil name on the box to boost sales.

Resident Evil 2 remake was 'the best RE in forever'.

Judging by the immaturity of your comment I guess Ive been playing RE since before you were born?
Ahhh now your stupidity makes more sense. You're out here pretending 7 was bad. Incredibly weird take but puts your lack of intelligence into context, thanks

Ill be playing this tonight. Sounds like alot more action and less horror than 7. Plus another stalker character chasing you in the game....

I appreciate the recent remakes, 7 and 8 but please make Resident Evil 9 with zombies, more horror and no freaking stalker chasing you in the game please.

I didnt like how they made MR X chase you in the main game of RE2 remake. I wanna, shoot, puzzle around a big metroidvania building without being chased all the time

so it's an action shooter like 4, 5 and 6 and less survival horror like 1, 2 and 7? pass. May change my mind if ever comes to VR.

guess at least appeals to nbois... aren't they the ones who also enjoyed 4 and that skate-riding Solid Snake?

RE7 was absolutely good. Its first half is top 3 RE for me. The game does take a nosedive but its still solid enough to see it through. Also liked Not a Hero, ideal for VR runs as its not long. And End of Zoe was ridiculous.

I recently played 4 and it is totally an action game. Has some good atmosphere but I think the enemy count was something like 800+ enemies lmao.

Bring back the classic formula lol

I never played 7, can I get away with watching a YouTube video to get caught up on what's going?

Or should I just try to blast through 7 this weekend then start 8?

OK fair enough, I might have got carried away. I can agree it was a good game but not a good Resident Evil game.
I agree with a lot of this. The game felt like it started out as an original title that they then shoehorned into the Resi universe.

But...terrible? come on....

Side note: even though it largely felt disconnected from the Resi series, it actually fit the name "Resident Evil" more than any game since the original.
I say its not only a 'real'/good Resident Evil game but a fantastic horror game as well.

When fanboys say its not RE they just mean the presentation, perspective, characters and visuals, all stuff Capcom changed because they didn't just wanted a RE1 rehash, but they thought and soul searched a lot about what makes Resident Evil, "Resident Evil" , and their goal was to make the scariest one yet. The team succeded, RE7 plays like a classic Resident Evil game in first person. They knew not everybody was gonna accept it because it looks so different from any game before but they were emotionally exhausted from making RE6 it was worth a shot.

i got that from this cool book 🤓

"little online friend"

Keep up the defensive and cringy attitude. Didn't even bother reading past that lol. If you want to continue to be a pissy internet keyboard warrior, have fun! Thank god I don't know you IRL

EDIT: BTW, he's right. Stay mad lol

"Dont be a pissy internet warrior" says the guy who got so mad he couldn't read the rest of my post and saying things like "thank god idk u irl" lmfao. You're the only person who decided to defend the guy who said reviews led him to believe this is like COD and now hes not purchasing. Don't blame me for thinking hes your online friend when there is no real logical reason as to why you did.

There's also a recap of RE7 in RE8, not sure if it's in the options or presents itself at the beginning of the game, but I know for certain it's in there. Reviews comment on it.

It would def help if you playd Resi 7 first, as some of the characters are the same, and there are a few references to what happened in 7. I wouldnt say its essential to play 7 though, just that it would help. As for the other games, there is nothing really linked to them.

This doesn't even look like a RE game. I am interested. I really only enjoyed 1 and 2 back in the day and from there it went downhill for me. I played 3 and 4 and could not get through 5. Revelations I thought I would enjoy, but I am tired of the weird puzzles in these games. I tolerated the puzzles in 1 and 2, but after a while it feels like a weak way to increase gameplay time and doesn't add much to the story.

Wow.

I don't think I've ever seen a main character in a videogame look exactly like he reviews videogames for a living.

No wonder why it's in first-person.

All jokes aside, have fun with this one guys. Fist-person Resident Evil just doesn't do it for me. Peace in the Middle East.
Good to see he looks as pathetic as he sounds/acts. Worst protag in a long time, imo.

OK now I like RE7 a lot but Village is EVERYTHING that game should have been and more

It's so drastically superior in almost every way I can scarcely contain my glee

What edition are people getting? Is the deluxe edition worth anything?
I wouldnt bother with the deluxe version to be honest. Everything you get in it is free anyway, except the Trauma pack that includes these -

Pack includes:
- Samurai Edge - AW Model-01
- Resident Evil 7 Found Footage Filter
- Resident Evil 7 Tape Recorder Save Point
- Saferoom Music "Go Tell Aunt Rhody"
- Mr. Everywhere Weapon Charm
- Unlock "Village of Shadows" Difficulty
- The Tragedy of Ethan Winters Artwork
- The Baker Incident Report

They never are in my opinion. Best buy had a free steel case and some dlc at $60 they may still have it , not sure. Wally world has it for $50 but shipping takes a while so you'll want to buy in store . Those were the 2 that stuck out to me as worthwhile.

Just played until I opened the gates to the castle. (This is not a spoiler, right?)

I have to say I love it. Up until now it's everything I wanted it to be. It does seem to be easier than 7, since I could craft medicine quite often, having more on me than I needed at all times.

Atmosphere, graphics and sound are great. Playing on ps5 with raytracing on and 3d sound enabled with good headphones. I must say I feel like the latter can't be praised enough.

It's 2am here, so that's for me.

For reference: I played every Resident Evil game since the early days.

RE2 remake was pretty good. A few unlockables, but the best thing is that it came with the original RE2 OST. Basically just bundled in the things that everyone else had to pay for if they wanted.

I'm getting the deluxe edition just because I'm a nerd. I don't think people will be missing out on anything if they get the standard release.

Watching some playthroughs and they are going into more of comedy horror approach, like ghost stories for kids, had some good laughs, seems solid.
