At the risk of sounding like a noob... I knew about this with digital games but I didn't know you could also do this pre-install for a physical copy.

This is great!

I am currently downloading Resident Evil Village on my XSX, so it's all preinstalled in preparation for the physical disc arriving from Amazon tomorrow. I'll be able to play it straightaway soon as I put the disc in.

It's pretty damn simple. You just open up the Xbox App on your phone, search in games for Resident Evil Village, and click on the big "download to console" button. Then as if by magic the download begins on your XSX...

Have any other Gaffers tried this?

Yeah need this on PS5 ASAP, luckily PS5's PSN is mega fast for me - I can download 16gb in 200 seconds - but thats clearly far from the average experience I'm sure.

Reminds me of the dark, old days, trying to download a 40mb file at 4kb/s, it took a big part of the day. As a teenage boy I'd have to set porn downloading in the afternoon for viewing in the evening

Being able to download any game regardless of whether you currently own it, whether digitally or physically is a super-underrated Xbox feature. The mere fact that the physical and digital versions aren't different / incompatible builds (like PlayStation) is huge as well.

Yea I noticed that, I think it's something to do with the OS tbh, I find the PS5 one to be less bloated compared to the Series S (can't speak on the Series X yet)

Yeah I did it for Mass Effect Legendary Edition. It’s a underrated feature and credit to the Preview Program/Xbox Insider members who put it forward as a requested feature.
