barioth is pretty fucking annoying
he hits like a pussy

It is me or Chameleos attack pattern is much more aggressive in Rise? Maybe my memory is fuzzy but I don't remember Chameleos ever body slamming you in pervious MH.

so far every classic monster i met seems way easier in rise.
some might be more aggressive but their damage output seems way lower

I think that has more to do Hunters having more mobility compare to pervious MH.

Edit: I have latest HR gear with 4 Defence decoration and Tigrex in HR still take most of my health with one of his bite attacks.

Hey Monster Hunter GAF....forwarning im a Mon Hun NOOB

My GF and I both picked this game up. We are really enjoying it, and want to keep playing. We are playing the local play quests.

However, we keep dying haha. Over and over

We are playing through the coop quests, and the first set (level 1) we have tried several quests but have failed them over and over. We are a bit hooked and want to keep playing but any tips on how to progress? We have tried completing the quests with various weapons...dual blades (I like), sword and shield, light bowgun (which I also enjoyed), long sword...any other tips?

For example, we will get potions ready/stock up and prepare to hunt, for example the Great Izuchi quest, and we have got to the point where I have even hopped on another monster, but still cant seem to kill him. We can beat the smaller monster easily but he's tough. Some attempts have lasted an hour or so with chasing it all over the map

Should we be playing the solo parts and leveling up our gear or something? We were hoping to stick to the coop/local play component? Our weapons are doing 6 to 11 damage points or so.

Hmm, I would recommend watching some video tutorials for the weapons you've selected to try out as well as some beginner guides. You seem to be missing out on some core mechanics if you're wiping on the rank 1 monsters. The rank 1 hub/multiplayer quests aren't that much more difficult than the equivalent single player village quests, but to be clear the single player village quests are the easiest of them all. Are you keeping your weapons sharp during the quests?

Huh so i was trying to kill this monster.
And then suddenly i finished the game?

It was an epic fight tho the first actual monster that made me a bit jumpy 👀

Thanks man!

yeah I am trying to keep them sharpened. I might have to remind my gf to do that though haha

Any youtubers you recommend? I feel like we are dodging well but seem to be dying

admittedly some of it may be my gf dying most of those times but there was one time where I even rode another beast and kicked great izuchis ass and still ended up dying ugh

Haha! Yea, totally understandable.

Here's a couple people I enjoy watching:
The first is gaijin hunter. He's been a MH content creator for a long time. He recently put out a loooong beginners guide. He even does a complete walkthrough for Great Izuchi.

He also started on weapon tutorials but I believe he's only done one so far.

The second is Arekks:

They are putting out some in depth weapon tutorials but they only have 5 out so far and for some reason one of the videos is private.

Other than that, I believe that by doing those first tutorial missions you may have collected enough materials to upgrade your starter weapon once along it's base tree? Also I think you may have received some armor spheres so you could potentially upgrade your starting armor a little bit but it should be helpful for the Izuchi fight.

So I'm guessing the new monsters start at HR20? I haven't played since reaching the fake ending, so I'm a lowly HR10. Did one of the new quests to capture a Rajang and the HR bar only moved halfway lol. Got a ways to go, it seems...

You should be able to fight a new monster right now if you want. Just look at your high rank quests.

But yes, some signature monsters will show up at HR 20, 30, and 40. But you level up fast. It only takes 2 or 3 hunts to gain 10 levels in my experience so far. I hit HR 31 last night and I'll continue on after work today and see how far I get.

I gotta start using insta-block instead of that charge counter. Also, re-evaluating palico. 🤪

I don't know how I missed it, but there is indeed a "new" returning monster that immediately triggered my PTSD...

Bazelgeuse

I'm surprised they didn't mention it in the update video.

So is this Narwa fight the end of 1.0 or new? Thinking it’s 1.0. Everyone is drinking like celebrating in the cutscene.

Seen some new monsters today. Where is the layered armor for your character?

Should see an option for layered armor at the smithy. It's in the craft armor submenu.

Did a few of the new quests, one of the rampages, and then Chameleous. HR31 now, moves quick for sure.
Did they add in Palico and Palimute layered armors too or just Hunter?

Edit: Quoted wrong post, but oh well.

Yes they did!

lol, i was able to equip some pet armor from the ‘deluxe’ edition and had a cute forest kitty for a while...it was in the layered armor setting at the buddy dude

no actual armor displayed tho, just a cute kitty
This patch they added the ability to create "normal" layered armor that you can build from the blacksmith and pet blacksmith. What you're talking about is the premium dlc and pre-order bonus stuff.

Gear is pretty important in MH. Also don't forget about the element. Make sure you have a decent armor, don't forget to upgrade the armor in the smithy. You need armor sphere to upgrade the armor. You can get these from the optional request in the quest giver.

First thing you should know is monster health is a lot higher in hub missions and scales according to number of players.

So if either one of you isn't doing enough damage for a variety of possible reasons (carting, cautious play, distracted by other monsters, not used to non-lock-on melee etc.), then I don't expect the other one of you to be able to output enough damage to carry the duo. And because the monster can opt to target either one of you, it's harder to familiarise yourself with its behaviour (tells and responses).

Village Quests are essentially tutorials for the Hub stuff. If you're not able to beat Great Izuchi in the hub, you'll only have it worse as you progress. I would suggest that you and your GF should play the village stuff first but maybe do it together, like attempting the same quest at the same time and communicating with each other about the stuff that goes down. Maybe a little friendly competition with hunt times, number of carts and what not.

That Rajang breath weapon tho! 😢

I can’t figure out how to counter it, so I just stay close and charge through him when I hear ‘be careful!’

Lol this game is great at making you learn. I can beat Rajang, but Rajang + anything else and I’m just running out of time.

I think I need to squeeze more damage out of this lance. These counter-attacks are decent now that I’m getting better. Maybe exploit some elemental weaknesses or something.

The new Village quest against Rajang + Bazelgeuse + Magnamalo was fun, and you get really good reward for it too.

I’m on the quest fighting Zinogre after. I’m definitely having fun, but I’ve been focusing on defense so long I need to go back to school.

I feel gunlamce is better if you want to be more aggressive but still be able to be defensive when needed.
