Now this is how you do financials. I'm not a shareholder but I might invest due to transparency :messenger_grinning_sweat:

These are monstrous revenue and profit numbers, fuck 😬!

And to think a few weeks ago gaming journalists and internet experts were proclaiming the demise of Sony and calling for Jim to be fired. Last time I’ll ever pay attention to people on forums and on Twitter, y’all are a clueless bunch and way out of touch with reality.

Sure, I don't deny it. But it still an YoY increase and that's good in my eyes and also XSX (don't confuse with XSS) is in high demand, so that's also good. Like here, in my country demand (for XSX, XSS is readily available) is in another galaxy in comparison to X1 OG/S/X...
Well, for MS the main interest right now is Xbox Series X blades and their production, rather than consoles.

But it is still fascinating too see how even after all those years Xbox is a just some entry in MS' report :messenger_tears_of_joy: It will become more important in the future that's for sure. I wonder if eventually there will be Microsoft Gaming Division or not though.

Oh I see. Yeah you're right.
I see this year their margins below 12%

Looks like both The Last of Us Part 2 and Spider-man Miles Morales both sold very well, given the large increases in 1st party unit sales during their launch quarters.

Miles is a mega hit and low key the most exciting piece of news. WWS has just found the solution to increased dev times by finding a space in the market for smaller scale episodes to fill the gaps between bigger games. Ironically enough, Uncharted Lost Legacy was aptly named, as it will be forgotten that it was that game that started things. Allows studios to expand without said expansion being an all in bet on one project.

It’s amazing. It means more games.

You're not alone in that thinking, and you may very well be right.

But I honestly don't see how the two correlate all that much. Most of the criticisms of Jim Ryan are regarding decisions he's made recently that wouldn't have impacted the numbers we got today all that much.

I also assumed pretty much everyone was a gamer first, but evidently that's not the case. Learn something new everyday I guess.

Those net profits are approaching MS levels...anyone that still thinks Sony hasn't got the financial muscle to dominate the competition needs a reality check.

Now they should go out and buy Capcom and Sqeenix :p
Sony operating income for the whole FY2020 (4 quarters) is around 9 billion USD.
MS operating income for just last quarter is 17 billion USD. Kind of crazy to compare them.
Sony is doing good for Sony. No need to compare.

I think you need to look up what numbers you're trying to compare. One of them is yearly profit, while the other is quarterly revenue. Sony made 3.2 billion in profits on gaming.. in a year. Microsoft made around the same in revenue... in a quarter.

Makes absolutely no sense to make that comparison. None what so ever.
That quarterly profit of ms is from gaming alone, or the whole company?

Meanwhile you've been out here stanning for Microsoft for months despite them being light on that very subject since the start of the generation and it doesn't look like that's changing any time soon.

Funny how that works.

If you are a "gamer first" then why are you pumping a company that isn't actually releasing games?

Sony themselves may have sold that many playstations, sure, but I imagine the number of end consumers (ie not scum of the fucking earth bot-spamming scalpers) securing at retail for the intended retail price is far, far lower.

Scalping was of course a thing back with PS4 but you could at least get one, and you didn't have to compete with the equivalent of fucking Skynet to get your hands on one.

People keep saying that scalpers only make up a small percentage of purchases but I just don't buy it (no pun intended). No fucking way when they are they constantly being listed (and bought by people with no self control or just really deep pockets) on places like eBay but you can almost never find them at retail or on regular online stores.

In other words, of course Sony's numbers are beefed to shit because you have all the consumers who wanted one anyway PLUS the absolute barrel-scrape-of-humanity scalpers buying them up and then reselling them.

Been playing games for 20 years and I've learned forums do not reflect the real world.

So, we do not actually have any indication of how software is performing for the PS5?

Does this mean titles arent performing as well as expected?

Yes, yes, my mistake. Thumbs up.

Anyway, this is a proper one :
Gaming Revenue : ¥660.3bn / $6.24B (+52.3% YoY from ¥433.6bn / $3.98B - Q4 FY2019)
Gaming Operating Profit : ¥33.0bn / $0.312B (-28.4% YoY from ¥46.2bn / $0.423B - Q4 FY2019)

So they shipped 7,8 million PS5s? Where did they ship them to? The PS5 so far is a mythological creature that no one has actually seen in person so far, that is at least my impression.

On a less sarcastic note, congrats to Sony for the success. The numbers will only multiplay once the PS5 becomes more readily available.

To the scalpers mommys basement where they shall lie in a pile of crusty old cheetos for all eternity.

They keep making great products. That's all I care about.

Cheerleading profits will never not be weird to me for non-investors.

Same with the weird caring about Microsoft not profiting off of gaming; oh no, what will I ever do? A company willing to sell me things for less than they are paying for them?

Sony wins in my book because I like their products more right now, not because they profit more off of me, it's despite the fact they profit more off of me.

Record operating income for Playstation division = $3.15bn(full FY2020)

Operating income for Nintendo in the FY2020 without Q4(we're going to get next week) = $4.8bn

I don't get why are you laughing when Nintendo is making nearly 2 times more than Playstation division record profit lol.

We are going to have a full profit comparison thread after Nintendo financial report.

Hoping for you to be there as well.

Nintendo's games, hardware cost way less to make, and Nintendo's operating costs are much lower. Nintendo doesn't spend even half as much as Sony Microsoft do in re-investing their profits. Also have to take into account things like server infrastructure, exclusive deals, and studio operation. Nintendo has teams all under mostly the same roof.

Knack 3 confirmed.

Was about to post that with those earned 10BLN they should IMO expand their studios, so that all of them have full two separate teams, without need of shifting staff back and forth between two projects like w read recently about ND. So hopefully that's their plan.

Unless any publisher posts what's the split between PS4 and PS5 of sold copies, or PS5-only games sales are, we won't really know the scale of scalping. Unless there's already such data I'm not aware of?

But from what I remember the PS4 was basically impossible to get in its first half a year, other than buying on auctions for 600-800$, and I think this gen won't be any differ, especially with current world situation.

I do laugh I think this is the only place people complain about getting a good deal were the corporation makes less money lol. Getting price gouged is something to be celebrated these days is truly something to behold. I can't imagine buying a car and worrying how much ford made on it.

SIE has invested $4Bn since 2019 (organic/internal growth)

That's really massive amount for organic/internal growth, especially that you already own the entity so you're only making adjustments. Compared to an acquisition that might have cost you double or 3x times.

The forcast for their FY is $3.8 billion

Are you reading it right? I don't want to see a repeat from your list yesterday
Nintendo operating profits Result for 3 quarters of FY2020 = $4.8bn

Playstation operating profits result for 4 quarters of FY2020 = $3.15bn

Reee users are stupid for comparing PlayStation operating profits vs Nintendo net profits.

Sony is also increasing its stock buyback so its a clear indication that it won’t acquire any other company soon. For now it intends to keep happy its shareholders.

Also PS4 and mainly PSPLUS (bad bad services…. 47m users 😛) are still their main force forward.
